Any hybrid athletes here? I've been lifting 4 times a week for 2 years. I've gotten my weightlifting routine and diet down and I'm wanting to incorporate 3 long distance running days per week into my program. Probably going to be increasing my carb intake while maintaining proteins and fats.

Any hybrid athletes here that can share advice? I've been told repeatedly that recovery is the make-or-break factor here. My main goal is to naturally build an athletic body that I can realistically maintain as someone who works a full time job.

Running is bad for your butthole just swim instead

Serious advice from someone who lifts and has taken first place overall in a small local 5k at 20:46. Pure distance running is a meme for hybrid. You really need to train like a 800m or 1500m runner. The longest long run I do is 40:00 with some strides in the second quarter of the run. Go to your local school and do some short and long intervals. Do something like 3x1000, 5x500, 6x250. Or 4x800, 6x400, 8x200. Or 5x600, 8x300, 10x150. Those are at threshold, mile, sub mile/800 paces. Rotate those workouts and do one or two workouts a week and the rest easy runs with strides. Lift as much as you can and are motivated to do. Do legs after run workouts.

keep in mind you’re warming up and cooling down and jogging in between the long and mid length intervals. Absolute stop and rest or walk on the short intervals. The long and mid length runs are over 5k in length with everything added in. Mine are 6-7k.

Hybrid athelete is just an athelete lol
Atheletes lift weights , run laps, medicine balls and calisthenics for their conditoning

A “hybrid athlete” is just someone on instagram who runs and takes steroids to not look like a twig for marketing purposes. Lifting has nothing to do with it lmao.

Great example that aesthetics are 95% genetic. This dude has less muscle mass than plenty of dudes I've seen on /fit/, and he's not even that lean. However, he has very ideal insertions and proportions.

I don’t like that term because the guys on social media using it are all frauds, but I can lift 1/2/3/4 and I ran a 2:58 marathon this year for my first race and am training to run 2:45-2:46 next.

Just add volume really really really slowly

You just dial down lifting volume for a while while you train up running. If intensity stays the same they shouldn't fall off.

I find the easiest way to manage is to not try to do more than maintain one discipline while trying to advance in another. Stop caring if you can actually do an extra rep or two or add weight. Your last best set is the high water mark you do not go past that.
Same deal with running when you're training up lifting again. You don't go one more mile you don't try to beat your pace you lock in and maintain.

Once you have that kind of control you can just flip between training up one and maintaining the other every 6-8 weeks or however long. I usually don't switch until it's looking like a plateau of some kind.
Don't try to push through plateaues if you're multi discipline you just get injured. You do better when you come back to it.
