PRK would be recommend for someone like you, who is more likely to take hits in their head, because with lasik there is a small possibility of issues with the flap, if you get hit in the head.
There is also relex smile if you want to look into it, its similar to lasik, but the flap is much smaller so the potential risks that come lasik are much more unlikely.
But to be honest there are plenty of people who do contact sports and have had lasik done, so its not like you would absolutely need to do prk. I had relex smile done 2 years ago and everything went well, happy with results, but I dont do combat sports, so can't share any experience from that point of view.

I'm strongly considering getting this done. I've done math of how much I've spent on glasses the past decade, could have paid for this shit twice over by now. In the long term it's WAY fucking cheaper, that's for sure. The potential worst case scenarios are pretty fucking scary though.

There is no flap done with relex smile. A small incision is made through which the excess lenticle is removed. Zero flap. But yes, this is the most modern and minimally invasive procedure to recommend. Had it done 5 years ago. Expensive, but very worth it.

Got LASIK 12 years ago. Wife got PRK due to thin corneas or whatever at about the same time. I drove myself to postop the next day, never had any dry eye. Wife was blurry for a week, dry eye for 6 solid months at least. Now, this many years down the road, a time when I couldn't just fucking see seems like a fever dream.

We both had 20/15 for years, but age is cranking down on us. For me, astigmatism has come back. I still see great, but the difference between 20/15 and 20/25 is sad. Recent got driving glasses and it's like, oh shit, I had it like this for a while.

this. i did no contact with my eyes for close to two years. i wont even touch it when i wash my face. wore protective glasses during sleep to prevent myself from accidentally touching eyes

when I looked into LASIK before getting it done it seemed to me like the likelihood of flap detachment after it has healed is miniscule (especially with the modern laser cut), like you'd need an accident that would still injure your eye and the flap opening would just make it a bit worse. But yeah SMILE is even better, it just makes your eyes hurt a bit more right afterwards since removing the tissue from the cut takes a bit of fondling by the surgeon but who cares it goes away in a couple of days, PRK is antiquated and unnecessary for almost everyone at this point imo

Lens surgery is better than lasik. I heard from some people. Lasik is permanent while other isnt. Small minority of people that i know that did lasik have some issues with it like light hitting their eye different or seeing halos which they didnt before. My eye sight is -16 both eyes so you are good with either

i got it done 3 years ago, its good but therecovery period can very long, it took me 6 months to comfortably be able to look at a computer screen without having to see wierd double lines on letters. Also pain was really intense for 5-6 days

tldr

LASIK - open a huge corneal flap and apply laser; Instantaneous vision fix, takes a few weeks to heal, alright for most people but the flap never fully heals
PRK - scratches your cornea and apply laser; Takes much longer to recover vision and to heal but doesn't leave your eyes so vulnerable, no flap

There are three newer, less aggressive methods:

SMILE - apply laser, small cut, remove lenticule; Heals super fast, small cut shouldn't cause issues even for athletes
SILK - pretty much the same, but more advanced tech
SMILE Pro - keeping up with SILK, the same but more modern laser

I forgot which one is the most advanced right now, SILK or SMILE Pro, it's safe to assume they tie for the best method.

Keep one thing in mind: I'd pick one of those two, but the clinic and the doctor you choose will have FAR greater impact on the success rate than choosing the method
