Home gymbros, how often do you replace your dumbbells? I thought I was saving money by buying them but the yearly replacements are getting expensive.

Can I stretch it to two years?
>>
>>77481462
Replacements? Wtf does that even mean?
>>
I discard and replace them after every use.

Goy'd. I lift batteries and sandbags instead.

Most dumbbell recycling places give coupons if you dump them there. It's worth checking the dumpsters behind sports good stars for some that still have a few good uses out of them

>replacing dumbbells annually
you bought big dumbbell propaganda. they last 5-8 years if stored properly. just replace them when they start creaking

Are you not using your dumbbell oil or something? Are you throwing them around and fucking up the gyro belts? wtf are you even doing?

Some weird freaks with no intention of ever lifting them will buy them for more than you initially paid just to lick them or something, and you can use that money to buy replacements, in fact the money the freaks pay will be high enough to more than account for inflation
>>
>>77481551
They just get lighter over time because I've absorbed the mass from them.
>>
>>77481462
if you’re in Germany: please be kind and leave your used up dumbbells next to the trash can and don’t dump them directly into the bin. The homeless will collect them and cash them in for recycling (Gewichtspfand).
>>
>>77481573
Also it is too much work for the garbage man to pick up a bin with hundreds of pounds of barbells

Literally wasting time abd pissing away gains. Old dumbbells weigh slightly kess over time. If you're stretching to 5 or god forbid 8 years they're barely going to weigh half of their indicated mass. You're in for a rude awakening when you finally replace them and you can't even bench the 50s.
>>
you idiots should stick with the disposable ones, you can buy them in bulk and there's enough for maybe a month
>>
>>77481462
>t. poorfag
If you just bought smartbells you wouldn't have this problem. Sure, the upfront cost is much higher but within a year or so you've actually saved money.
>>
>>77481764
Disposable ones are fucking scam for New Years resolution faggots. The trick is to buy clearance ones in bulk when February hits
>>
>>77481779
Sorry, meant to reply to >>77481764
For OP it will take more like like 5-10 to pay off.

And if you rotate the bells regularly, they'll last a good long while

They hold twice as long if you swap them every other workout. Just cause a dumbbell says “left” doesn’t mean you can’t use it with your right hand.
>>
>>77481810
I bet you buy expired food too and shout "WHAT A DEAL!" and the whole store looks at you

They do lose mass over time as some of their mass is absorbed by the Earth's gravitational pull every time you lift them, and a small percentage of that is released as thermodynamic energy because of special relativity.

To combat this, you should season your dumbbells at least thrice a year (mineral oil works fine, you don't need to waste money on dumbbell oil). And after every month or so, you should recollimate the magnetic field on each side by rubbing them over strong magnets (I use the stator core from a large blower fan). The reason you have to do this is because the fields at each end of the dumbbells are purely azimuthal.
>>
>>77481811
Left and right dumbbells are NOT interchangeable! You should always have a professional technician rotate them twice a year. I schedule that for daylight savings time when I also change smoke alarm batteries so it's easy to remember.
>>
>>77482077
You're looking at it backwards. Dumbbells don't move while you're "lifting" them; everything else does. A heavier dumbbell actually makes the universe, which is what actually provides the resistance, relatively lighter, so it's actually to your benefit to lose a little mass off your dumbbells over time. That's what progressive overload is.
>>
>>77482096
I don't lnow who you think you are anon, but your 20lb hammer curls are not moving me around them
>>
>>77482107
I didn't write the laws of physics, buddy, don't @ me. I'm sure you're very tough when you're not bouncing around in the hamster ball with the rest of existence when I'm doing my pink dumbbell kickbacks.
>>
>>77482111
maybe you should have paid attention in school retard, because unless you're orbiting the earth at light speed none of that shit is true
>>
>he doesn't rent his dumbells
>>
>>77482090
>have a professional technician rotate them
bet you can't change your own oil, either. if your dad failed to teach you, just watch some youtube videos
>>
>>77482123
>not financial advice
Renting only makes sense if you know how much you’re gonna use your dumbbells. If you train more than 3x a week the premium you pay isn’t worth it and you might as well just buy them. Plus, renting also doesn’t allow you to resell your old dumbbells. The second hand market is quite good at the moment, so you can get back a decent chunk of your money.

Prob the best bait i've seen in a year or two on this board
>>
>>77481462
>dumbbells
Best options:
>Iron Master
>Oly dumbbells + pl8s, 4 5lb, 4 2.5lb, 4 1.25lbs, and lots of 10lb pl8s
>Adjustable dumbbells
>>
>>77482077
You can easily counter this by rotating them once upside down per day.
>>
>>77481462
buy the ironmaster adjustable set then buy four replacement plates every six months and throw away the oldest four. average age will be 12-18 months so you'll save a little money without limiting gains too much. you can also get replacement handles every five years or so.
>>
>>77481764
Disposable weights are a thing? Just nuke this planet.
>>
>>77482328
u dum
>>
>>77481468
Haha poor boy
>>
>>77482460
>Disposable weights are a thing?
Yes, it's actually a huge issue. Because of the sheer amount of these weights being produced and thrown out, the Earth's getting heavier and heavier every year. It's actually already starting to sink, and it's only going to accelerate. You've never heard of global bulking?
>>
>>77482492
i blame boomers. They had all the time and momentum in the 80s when fitness and body building was big. They could have invested into renewable weight research. But no, they were just chasing the next pump and making bank. Weight change could’ve been solved a long time ago. They have stolen our future lifts.
>>
why the fuck are all of your retarded?
>>
>>77482492
You global bulking conspiracists are so tiresome. Guess what? Beachfront property is still beachfront property, the poles are in the same place, the sun and the moon are still in the sky, and the earth is just like it always was before humanity started to pursue convenience and affordability!
>>
>>77482515
>>77483104
Invest in anti-weights. They're good for negatives, but you can still get a pretty good workout with that and it counteracts the global bulking
>>
>>77483104
>beachfront property
Always thinking in liberal terms and about yourself. What about the damage to the ecosystem and biodiversity? The steel from dumbells entering topsoil has huge unintended issues for flora and fauna. Treemaxing, although beneficial for root development in the early stages, is not sustainable and harmful in the long term. Deciduous forrest in my area is already starting to decline rapidly as a result. Meanwhile, the alphabating pandemic amongst rainworms is preventing egg production due to a decline in female reproductive organ size in favor of bigger male reproductive organs (they are actually hermaphrodites). Suggest you read some scientific literature sometime. Seriously.

typical antiweight cattle
>>
>>77483141
Once you start suffocating under your own weight, you'll stop laughing.
>>
>>77483115
antiweights are ok but I hate having to get the ladder out to bench on my ceiling
>>
>>77483138
This is why I use wooden dumbbells. After they're empty I pelletize them for my smoker.
>>
>>77483206
just use them in australia
>>
>>77483206
desu this is why they'll never catch on. I have a pair I use exclusively for triceps and lat pullsdowns
>>77483216
>kg
no thanks
>>
>>77483216
>move to australia
>my lb weights no longer work
>forced to buy a new set of kg dumbells

This is bullshit
