Is
>how much do you bench?
still a good measure for how strong someone is?
>>
It is a good measure of how much someone can bench

I OHP almost as much as I bench (I only do incline)

Functionally? Not really; as fun as bench is, it's a fairly useless motion outside of the gym. Historically, strength was measured in the legs, back, and shoulders, since these are the foundations of combat and work movements.
>>
I'd say it's useful to know is someone is strong, but not to compare 2 people because technique matters a lot (grip width, arch/no arch/gay arch, leg drive, etc.) if it's full ROM even with a larger grip someone who benches 3-4pl is probably strong

Used to say the same thing, then had to push a 4 ton boat that was leaving dock to avoid it scraping against wall (dock was perpendicular to current, and boat got caught in current because didn't back up fast enough and started drifting while still halfway parked) and at that specific moment I was happy I was training bench

This is not a legal lift
>>
>>77487163
i don't get to mechanics of the bottom one anyway. with limited ROM you lose leverage and the lift becomes much more difficult, albeit for less distance.
>>77486186
bench alone sure but it is highly correlated with dip and ohp weight, which are definitely more common movements, so it's not nothing imo
>>
>>77487172
Fair enough, but I'm still of the opinion that it should be a secondary concern when lifting. An incline bench is a better alternative if you want to bench, unless your aim is purely aesthetic.
>>
jumping in with a bench question

How wide is too wide and how narrow is too narrow grip-wise?
>>
Why don't more gyms have benches with safety bars? It almost seems like bullshit to me that so many do not have this when you would think it should practically be a common sense thing to make sure your bench has them.

ROM is to your fat gut?

Owners are retards, the gear is expensive so they opt for the cheapest option, insurance doesn't know or care until after somebody dies
>>

There are powerlifting rules if that’s what you’re interested in. I have no idea what they are, though. If you’re interested in bodybuilding simply just go do what’s comfortable and know further apart increases stress on the chest whereas closer together emphasises triceps.
>>
>>77487163
bad picture because the photos are at different angles making the comparison shit
>>
>>77483637
it never was
it was always a very gymrat specific feat and it stopped being cool the moment people started cheating at it to push more numbers
>>
>>77483637
It still is
Regardless of what weird-arse faggots do, for most non-lifters a decent bench number means you're "strong". Because it's a lift they understand.
