I have a 1.6 cm L5-S1 extrusion. It's so over.
Deadlifting claims another fool
I had one of these 10 years ago. Did it again although not as badly a year ago. I am fine now.
>>77483722>>77483723Miraculously, I don't need a surgery. But yes, I won't be lifting anything anymore. My only hope the extrusion will shrink in a year or so.
>>77483722It's not because of deadlifts, it's more of retards ego lifting
minimal compound routine grifters can disappear overnight but your spinal disorders are eternal
Back problems are why I only do upper body and then run plus split squats and 45 degree back extensions and calf raises. I had to see a physical therapist to be able to sprint without pain and now at middle age I am winning local 5k’s for my age group consistently even though I only train for 800m and 1500m.
>>77483726wait so it was because of deadlifting or.?
>>77483824Deadlifting + squats.
>>77483819I've been doing weighted back extentions and split squats lately too. Absolutely killer stuff, keep it up anon.
>>77483819I did my back in lifting my nephew onto my shoulders and walking around with him sat on my shoulders. This was a little more than year ago. I still cannot even do body weight squats without feeling pain in my lower back the next day, like a burning sensation and occasional sharper pain if I bend over or something. Running will make my lower back burn as well. Are split squats easier on the lower back or should I just give up on my glutes and legs for all eternity ?
>>77483819>800mToughest shit, atleast with 400's you know there's only a minute of suffering
>>77483967Tried goblet squats? My mom has had 3 hernias on her back (operated), and another one in her neck. She cannot do bodyweight squats but holding a 10kg weight is fine.I only do goblet squats and kettlebell hinges for legs now, because i'm scared i'll fuck my shit up forever due to genes, and i dont mind it my legs look good and i'm pain free.
>>77484015>look good and pain free. This is all that matters, especially as you age.
>>77483967>I did my back in lifting my nephew onto my shouldersIf your back is fucked, you can forget about parenthood.
>>77484015Sorry, by body weight squats I meant just squatting with no weights at all will still fuck up my back. So 10kg goblin squats are most likely going to cause me pain as well.
>>77484049Get an MRI.
>>77484062Glad I don't do any of these lifts.
injuries = bad form simple as
>>77484168True.The problem is that now I am fucked for the rest of my life and I am not an ego lifter. I was barely squatting and deadlifting around 200 pounds and still fucked my back.Never again.
>>77483714I also was diagnosed with a bulging L5-S1 at 21 (29 now). I dont know how old you are but i dont wish it on my worst enemy in my darkest day. Ive only started lifting again seriously this year 4 months ago and even then not very heavy. Take care of yourself anon its going to be a very hard road to recovery brah ive been back to the hospital twoce more and several urgent care visits over the years. But it is possible to recover if you let it and take it very slow but i will never be 100% ever again and only live with the discomfort every day. Were all gonna make it brah.
>>77484205Okay maybe not also im sorry mine was just bulging it seems like an extrusion is a case where your shit is ruptured. Stay strong anon this shit is fucked and godspeed to you my friend
glad i stopped deadlifting before the reaper claimed my back for good. got to 495 but ended up injuring it on a 365 warm up set. at least it healed.>inb4 just fix ur form bronot worth the risk
>>774837141 lose weight2 do lots of work for your TVA3 do the "built from broken program"i did the l5 s1 surgery back in 2017, but its really getting my whole body strong that fixed me. stop forcing yourself to do deadlifts and squats until you've managed to stop your pelvics from tilting. most people are bending at their lower back, not their hips. really learn to feel a hamstring stretch and push you hips back when you hinge. also please learn to get a deep activation in your core. next time you squat do them with your shirt off in front of a mirror and pay attention to how much your low back arches. its not over. injury is an opportunity to take the journey deeper.
deadlifting has actually done a lot to mitigate my lower back pain.
>>77483714>1.6 cm L5-S1 extrusionI have three 2cm+ ones anon. You deal with it.They don't really heal.Keep your body healthy and don't do deadlifts or squats.Do other leg exercises that keep your back straight/vertical instead..t ankylosing spondylitis enjoyer
I only front squat or trap bar deadlift now. Fuck normal deadlifts it’s gotta be some insanely high statistic that if someone gets hurts lifting it’s a traditional deadlift.
>>77483714>Do bjj for 6 months>Have several of thoseKek, all fun and games
>>77483714Who cares? Wait for the swelling to go down and then get back at itFucked my back up countless times, pulled lmao4pl8 pain free after not hitting legs for months
>>77483824It was shit form
>>77484062You can see the first guy is catting it upSquatting heavy without safeties has always been retardedMore people get back injuries leg press than deadlifts
>>77484401When I'm not lifting for awhile, I'll get back pain that only resolves with squats and deads
>>77484628More people get hurt leg pressing
Guys are doing 400lb deadlifts but can't do 1 toes to bar hanging leg raise and wonder why they get ruptured disks kek
>>77484180>The problem is that now I am fucked for the rest of my lifeNa. I have a large bulged disc at L5-S1 (I just got my MRI back last week actually, looks gnarly). I injured myself maybe like 5 years ago.It CAN go away, and for a lot of people, it eventually will. It just takes time. The big thing is that it is really easy to re-injure again, as I did by accident a month ago.If you have insane pain/its bad, get a Medrol pack. It's a tapered strong methylprednisolone steroid dose regime, shit is complete magic. It's my go-to cure for if I fuck up my back again.Motion is important: Keep up walking/biking/jogging when possible.Don't get fat. I only reinjured myself when I gained weight, and losing weight helped to reduce all the general issues with my slipped disc. And yes, you can lift. for the years after my slipped disc, I was cycling, jogging, lifting just fine. I had to avoid walking lunges, bent-over rows, and deadlifts, but there are plenty of other exercises to be done. Squats were actually very helpful for my back pain *at low weights*. I never tried to squat super heavy, just very controlled with moderate weight, and started very slow (with bodyweight only at first, to see if it would aggrevate anything).I fucked up by doing bent-over rows, which I knew I should have avoided, but I had been without pain for so long I assumed I was invincible, but ended up with sciatica again. It's mostly gone now, and I imagine in a month or so I'll be back to where I was, but it DOES suck in the meantime. But once it's recovered, you can and SHOULD lift, do cardio, etc, you just have to limit specific exercises to protect your back.
Been dealing with back pain my whole life, fractured spine at 15 (30 now) and it took 6 years to not feel constant pain. Had a bunch of QL spasm and disc issues too. All I can say is learn to train as others have mentioned.. make splitsquats or walking lunges your friend + 45° back extension along with single legged calf raises, leg curls and leg extensions.DO NOT neglect core work. Checkout 'lowbackability' for a 45° extension progression scheme. Also checkout coreXcell on youtube for glute minimus work (supports lower back). Also checkout Alec Blenis for some unique lifting ideasPLEASE look into John Sarno and Dan Buglio on youtube. It's a weird world but just keep an open mind about what they're saying. The psychological piece is very important. Back pain is one of those things that can fuck you not only physically but psychologically if you don't have the tools to cope with it.Also. Decide now how you're going to spend your time. When I was 15 and fractured my spine I didn't have the life experience to realize instead of being enraged 24/7 and just play halo and be angry, I couldn't proactively found a hobby to excel other areas of my life, like amateur radio and engineering. I was just too angry about my physicality being taken away from me at an early age.
>>77484168Wrong. Even if it were true.. if you DL OR squat 2x/week for 10 years, say 3x5, that's 3*5*2*52*10 = 15600 deadlifts EXCLUDING warmups.>just do it PERFECT 15600/15600 times bro, simple as>retarded
I feel my spine compress in a weird way on the ohp machine if I go super heavy. Should I stop doing that shit?
>>77483714Just do hyperextensions and strengthen your lower back, the inflammation will go down and you'll be good to go in like 2 monthsI had a cervical hernia which took the strength in one side of my upper body down to like 5%, my c5-c7 are basically bone on bone if you put any weight on my head right now, I can feel all of it grinding against each otherI did head curls on a pulley with 25 - 45 lbs as rehab and did my usual workouts with babyweights and I was back to around 80% strength and mobility within around 2 monthsSome slight pain comes back once a while, but everything else is back to normal
herniated L4/L5 and L5/S1 when i was 31. 4 days i couldnt sleep because of pain, then got an hour here or there sleeping in filled bathtub. took me 1 year to be able to sit or stand for more than 30 mins (i would lie down on the ground at the grocery store intermittently). 1.5 years i was recovered enough to exercise. every dr visit was pointless, Corticosteroid shots didn't work.heres what fixed me:1. respecting the nerve pain: if i feltit, i stopped what i was doing and fixed it. and centered my life around keeping all pressure of discs. i worked from the floor of my office w a yoga mat and got roasted mercilessly. didnt care. refused to go anywhere over 30 mins unless i could get driven around laying down in the back.if you get nerve pain and ignore it continuously, your brain will turn off that nerve and you will get little paralyzed regions. my right calf lost half its strength in first 3 months where i just pushed through! 9 years later it still lags!2. mcgill big 3 plus cobras, 2x per day. cobras followed point 1: modified at first w army crawl and pillow under hip, worked my way up to full w/ very close eye on NOT pushing into nerve pain.3. taking stress off the discs for as many minutes per day as possible. walking around in the shallow end of a pool was the best for this. traction table, or just deadhangs also worked (be very careful getting back upright after! dropping down can reinjure!)your discs will heal themselves completely in a year if you are PERFECT about this. 30 mins per day w weight removed plus completely minimizing stress throughout the day, and strengthening core enough to keep you safe. You can come back from horrible herniation, no surgery. at 31 i was legit on bedrest for a year. i remember 1.5 years later, hitting a 70% sprint for the first time after barely even walking for a year, and i was holding back tears of joy.at 40, i squat (front squat only), deadlift (RDL and jefferson only), dunk a basketball, run, etc.
>>77487104please stop and find an alternative. you can recover from disc injuries butits like 85% recovered, that shit does follow you for life to some degree.dumbbell shoulder press or barbell overhead.
>>77483819>for my age group Oh look the smartest retard
I feel like yoga and deadlift ficed my upper back pain and problems. OHP is the one that fucks me up if i even slightly arch. And I probably have poor shoulder mobility making ohp proper form harder
>>77487366I've been experimenting with a new delt press movement lately. I don't think it has a name because I've never seen it before.>very light DB>sit on vertical bench or a single pin backward>single arm press db from your shoulder almost like the start of an incline press position>KEY DIFFERENTIATOR>instead of pressing over head, you press out in front of you on like a 60° angle, like your reaching for something just above head height, almost like a landmine press>move db to the midline almost online with your nose as you press >it's like a "forward-up-press" >tension on front delt at the bottom of lift and tension throughout and at the top of movement almost like a front raise With normal ohp you get tension for like the bottom half on your front delt and then it vanishes. OHP for front delt tension is like DB flys for chest
>>77483714>take magnesium, vitamin c, vitamin d, and vitamin K>disc regeneratesnot that hard jeet
I've had crippling sciatica for the last 2 weeks, caused by sitting I couldn't avoid.Getting an MRI tomorrow to hopefully shed some light on the source, have had minor sciatica since July. I'm on 3 different painklillers (Tramadol, Journeyvx, and Tinizadine) and it's still quite painful (especially in the morning).Has anybody had an ESI? I have a follow-up with my ortho on the 9th, hopefully I can get one scheduled. I know it doesn't fix the issue, but hopefully it will let me deal with it pain-free while it heals (whatever it is).
Funny timing of this thread.Did my warmup stretches, warmup deadlift weights (140kg) and suddenly feel this warm electrical buzz from lower back going through my whole body. Needed to abort lifting, went on the bike for 10min and now have a stiff, aching back and see this thread.Did everything right in the book but still got fucked. Time to rest and yoga now.
You all have problems with lower back and I suffer from cervical/upper thoracic issues that never fully heal, always cause some degree of discomfort and occasionally flare up. OHP has been out of the question for a long time but other stuff is slowly causing flare ups as well. I took 3 weeks of super light training and it doesn't get better. Any tips? I guess I should finally get an MRI.
>>77483714just do dead hangs
