Someone at the gym told me to listen to classical music while working out. Is he right /fit/?
Listen to whatever music you like, what the fuck does it matter? Are you being graded on your fucking gym sensory inputs? Who the fuck cares?
No. You should listen to 80s italo-disco instead.
>>77485211I do find lighter and higher-context music often does it for me
Classic music is too chill. Music effects on your heart rate and your speed. Metal or even a nightcore will to a much better job pushing you through the workout.Otherwise you can listen to whatever you want.

>>77485286Comparing to metal, yea, all that is very chill
>>77485411Beg to differ but ok
>>77485211Personally I like Jazz

I could never get into finding classical music enjoyable, it has no percussion, right?Try as I might, I even attended an hour-or-more-long performance and without the rhythm of drums it just does absolutely nothing for me, like my brain doesn't register it as music, most of it just feels like funny sounds.Exception is piano music and grand-sounding stuff like number 2 in >>77485286,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNVomngq-Qchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYeDsa4Tw0cI still keep wondering if I'm listening to it wrong or something? Anyone had this experience then came to enjoy classic music as music later eventually?
>>77485211You aren't lifting heavy enough if you can still pay attention to music.Max PR happens in silence
>>77485949I started listening to classical at 25, about a decade ago. There is percussion but it is used sparingly, basically only in the orchestra. The rhythmic elements come from the particular instruments in the composition. One anon mentioned Stravinsky's Rite of Spring' which is a modern ballet with percussion. I would not recommend that piece to a beginner.Try these symphonic works:>Ralph Vaughan Williams - Oboe Concertohttps://youtu.be/3P0TaRKQPbE?si=Y7HuPZwTMZ_jWR2O>Rimsky Korsakov - Scheherazade Mov. IIIhttps://youtu.be/JdKTUfOxDgw?si=fPDV4xV5k5y81DV9>Enescu - Symphony No. 2https://youtu.be/lmyhPMEciQc?si=4A0vNbO6yxyLeScxSolo instrument (accompanied by piano):>Schumann - Violin Sonata no. 1https://youtu.be/_s5OP5nje-E?si=CIZajeRiYYiq2DlU>Koechlin - Oboe Sonatahttps://youtu.be/mQhiW5yZMp0?feature=sharedModern and Post-war 20th Century music:>Prokofiev - Romeo & Juliet Dance of the Knightshttps://youtu.be/Z_hOR50u7ek?si=2Rthmk8Y1oVR3Uj4>Bartok (one of the best composers ever) - Miraculous Mandarin https://youtu.be/uGuE20hKaDw?si=F8kyKBju3sc8Q-2cMozart, the absolute GOAT - all of his music is excellent but will be by far the oldest music in my recommendations. Classical era music is very easy to listen to but people find the sound corny or lame or whatever. Here are some favourite Mozart pieces. >Oboe Quartet https://youtu.be/SwTmzmi4AkQ?si=3jTB570rTIaJRNBA>String Quartet no. 14https://youtu.be/Uf1xJHeUZGA?si=dDQjh_5E5ZRTCpsN>Symphony no. 31https://youtu.be/FIusbSphX-k?si=YSPAUlwv7OXkK_5RThis piece was premiered in 2005 if you want contemporary art music:>Thomas Ades - Violin Concerto https://youtu.be/wJPshVn4tYo?si=TAdSF0ktGtVNRARLEnjoy
>>77485987Thank you anon.I just finished listening to the first one and I really liked it, felt kinda invigorating and light and nice.My observation so far would be that unlike most of the classical pieces I have heard so far (including performed live), which seemed to me as just a barrage of way too many instruments and sounds with little order (possibly because I'm not used to classical music), this one felt focused and sensibly, pleasant, using just a few instruments at once, it felt like those few then got to work together in a nice flow that lead throughout the entire "song"(XD)/composition.I suppose one of my issues might be that I'm used to listening to heavily-percussion-based high-bpm music (techno, happy hardcore, drum and bass, psytrance), so then jumping into something with pretty much a complete lack of drums just confuses my brain too much.I'll keep on listening and going through the list you sent. Once again thank you, I appreciate it and I like what I interpret to be your enthusiasm about this topic displayed in your reply.
>>77486022I'm glad you like it so far. I tend to listen to relatively modern music but the Romantic era has some absolutely beautiful music. My favorite music for many years was drum and bass. I still listen to it regularly. >Brahms (absolute genius) - Symphony 3https://youtu.be/u68ETRjNQME?si=bWH2fRcC8lVFFItu>Brahms - Clarinet Quintethttps://youtu.be/1Gw8JU53SWY?si=5HJLM4WpOMH7QuCh >Berlioz - Fantastic Symphony (very popular and highly influential piece, everyone should listen to this)https://youtu.be/AgXW-57UDMc?si=DCFAvMa7NPaxkYBW>Gounod - Faust (this is taken from a ballet, so the rhythms are more regular and normal) https://youtu.be/jkjWLWsDf08?si=rNL6VK4uIHa2lGU7>Strauss - This Spoke Zarathustra this is a very famous piece and I probably guarantee you've heard the opening. >>77485211I wouldn't personally listen to classical unless I was just doing a chill maintenance session. I find it too relaxing and mentally engaging.
