I love dumbbell bench press, but my lifts have gotten to the point where getting the actual dumbbells into position is pretty difficult (no I'm not going to ask someone to help - that's gay).

Do I have to switch to barbell bench or is there a solution for this?

Yes

love me some barbell. benchin it, squattin it, diddlin' it, trying to raise it above my pathetic body with a lil' weight on it
>>

The fact that I even have to highlight that you start from the bottom of the rep and can't do as many sets at your leisure without a spotter or those dumbbell racks which actually seem nice

Yeah, db press is a DYEL exercise, because once you get to around 100lbs, the exercise becomes hard to set up

Get em on your knees and "kick" them up with your knees. It'll help you get weights up to 60s in posistion beyond there getting them down becomes the issue and the potential risk only skyrockets because you won't be able to control the weight if it starts tilting

DYEL
Once you start lifting big boy weight, you'll understand

What weight dumbbells are you at? I’m currently doing 3x10 38 kg DBs. Getting the dumbbells in position is only occasionally an issue on my last set, and if I fail, I just take a minute break and try again. Breathe in, put them on your knees, and roll back while keeping tension in your arms.

90lbs (about 40 kg), so we're basically in the same situation. It's kinda tough on my shoulders, even when I do the "knees first" thing
Is this just me having weak shoulders

How much do you weigh?

NTA but you can genuinely hurt yourself doing that maneuver. Barbell bench is much safer at this point, just do close grip and balance it out with heavy rows and some prehab banded face pulls.

There is a solution, but it's more for home gym than commercial unless you want to be an asshole. Hang the DBs off a barbell with powerhooks. The setup requires the usual dumbbells and bench, but also a barbell, and also a power cage since the barbell needs to be positioned highed than a normal bench. It's the kind of thing that I would be infuriated to see someone else do.

This
Just barbell bench

What does barbell bench have over weighted push-ups?
>>
>>77487615
Overload potential
Loading a pushup past 45lbs is going to be very cumbersome
Most weighted vests don't carry that much

One of the reasons that weighted pull-ups and weighted dips are so great is that loading them (using a dip belt) is really easy

Shit, you're right.
I just held a push-up position with my hands on my scale and it looks like my body weight results in 140lbs at my hands...

Yeah that's just the lever physics
When you bench, you have to push the weight up, unassisted
When you do a push-up, your body is moved as a lever (your toes are the fulcrum)

If you can't get the dumbbells into position in order to do your sets then you shouldn't be doing the weight. I don't care if you claim you can hit 10 reps with a certain weight (there is no way you are convincing me you can). If its so heavy that getting it to your knees to do a kickup and then bench is too difficult then the weight you are doing is too much anyways. Do not treat dumbbell bench press like it is the ego lifters favorite exercise, the barbell bench press. The movement is the same and it hits the same muscle but its still a different exercise. Dumbbell bench press is vastly superior to barbell bench press no matter what the egofags have to say.

>tldr
Stay in a weight range that you can always handle the weight through the entirety of the exercise. Including setting up and kicking back to then start benching.

I wish I had a Voltra, I bet attaching it to a chest harness would make pushups the goated chest exercise.
>>
>>77486787
I can dumbbell bench 95s for reps but it's still fucking insanely scary when you feel yourself lose groove and feel the dumbbels tip downwards for a milisecond before your grip can recover.
>>
>>77486560
Switch to barbell for a month or two. Make sure to add 10% weight of what you're currently doing and then watch your chest explode. After 2/3 months, move back to dumbell and you'll be an absolute beast.
