If time under tension is the main driver of muscle growth, then can we just have a completely static exercise routine, for example, just taking a pair of 15 lb dumbells, holding them in each hand with a bent arm, and just holding that position for like 10 minutes? This way we can progress forever with just a basic set of dumbells just by adding more time, and never suffer any injuries (have different positions for different muscles but basically the same idea, just hold a mid-squat position or a bent over hinge position with light weight, etc.

Secondly, the muscle fibres you want to recruit for size respond to force production which requires you to accelerate weight. The optimal way would be to choose a weight that is so heavy that you can not move it quickly but you move it with maximum voluntary intent to accelerate, and then on the eccentric you can control it slowly to extend TUT and get the benefits of that.

My traps and upper back in general responded well to strongman style carry training, because I'd have isometric load of holding the sandbag or husafell or yoke or whatever, but there would be little micro movements as I carried it through space. Slow reps is very viable isometrics not so much.I have to do a bit more research but it probably has something to do with which metabolic process is failing first. Since there's like 3 or 4 potential pathways that can fail and result in a muscle failing when it's not supposed to.

Endurance training has the longest time under tension and the primary adaptation to endurance training is for the muscles to get smaller (and more vascular). Mechanical tension is the main driver of growth because you can't curl a soup can until you get 18" arms.
