>Who is /fat/ for?
For busy breakfasters working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

>how it feels to try to stick to the deficit on a leg day
>>
Dropped from 400lbs to 210lbs from listing and cardio, I have these last 10lbs to lose and I just cant seem to get them to fuck off. I lift heavy (I have 400lbs 5x8 on single leg leg press tomorrow for example) and its hard to cut and eat enough at this point. I seriously injured my wrist a few months ago and the fucker will not heal, constant 2/10 pain that can get bad after lifting. Debating taking a month off, getting my 200gs of protein, dropping the last 10 lbs and letting my wrist heal. Bad idea? I am so hungry after lifting heavy

Recovery is limited on a calorie deficit. I would do as you surmised and pause the diet, eat at minimum a bit over caloric maintenance until your injury heals.
In addition to already being injured, high volume workouts leads to a higher risk of injury. Cutting will inevitably cause minor loss in strength, but you can retain your overall muscle development as long as you're eating adequate protein and lifting heavy at low volume.
You should probably be eating more than 1g of protein per lb of total bodyweight. You are already greatly active so you should be eating 1.5 to 2g of protein per lb of lean body mass.

I don't really know the full story because I'm just imagining what your bodyfat percentage is, so take this advice with a grain of salt.
>>
>>77489466
I wasnt going to pause the diet, just pause the lifting for a month and try to get these last 10lbs off of me while letting the wrist heal up in that time, hopefully.

Recovery is limited on a caloric deficit. In order to recover faster you should eat adequate protein and at minimum, maintenance calories until the pain goes away. Personally I would prioritize not making the injury worse.

If you absolutely must continue the diet and to hell with your wrist, then prioritize adequate protein intake relative to your lean body mass for someone with an active lifestyle, tamper the lifts down to a low volume split, and maybe increase your cardio on an elliptical or a bike.

Just had a suite of health tests done, some information was new to me and might be new to you too. Also had a DEXA, what would you say my bf% is? according to DEXA it's 12.8%.
from 131kg to 88kg since july 2025, keto and calorie deficit (the latter of which ended around march 2026 when i started increasing calories for energy. i'm currently at 3k cal per day). gp was very happy with my bloods
>8.3 LDL
>0.6 trig
>2.8 HDL
>insulin 2.2
consistent with someone on a strict low carb diet
inflammation very low (0.6).
Kidneys was an interesting one. Since i'm eating around ~260g of protein per day one would assume my kidneys are being impacted. not so. had a Cystatin C test done and my kidneys are perfect. we discussed the information floating around that elevated protein intake negatively affects kidneys which he said was total rubbish. i believe him.
My vitamin D levels are frankly terrible because I get no sun. i take a supplement but it's not enough. This affects sleep, recovery from exercise and hormones.
Speaking of hormones, i'm right on the margin of low to normal. free test is 169L. he asked about my sex drive which i found has improved since increasing my calories. i wake up every morning with raging morning wood and i'm not losing facial/body hair, so who knows. he said it's contingent on many factors and recommended testing again in 3 months. i mentioned that i do 5 weekly strenuous gym sessions and get relatively poor sleep which may be a factor (something about cortisol spikes during and after the gym).
despite being a low carb advocate gp he recommended that i should include some carby veggies like potato and sweet potato since i've achieved my weight loss and i have no underlying health condition, keto is not really necessary anymore. stay away from rice and oats (it's all processed shit now) and anything processed. aim for 100g and i may see an improvement in my energy and hormones. also i want to get back up to 90kg so that'll help.
>>
>>77489516

Seeing that you lost 15 pounds and all 15 of that is fat. It means you lost 100% pure fat while not losing any muscle. Which is really good, ideal actually. You're on the right track and keep doing what youre doing right now.

5'10, lifting for 7 years so a bit of muscle. Last week was doing 5x8 100lb DBs and hOOOOOOO boy did that hurt the wrist. I havent taken more than a random week off here and there since I started lifting and cutting so a month off of the gym sounds so relaxing. Ill either shorten my lifting to 3 days a week instead of 5 or just swap to light weights lots of reps. Just want to get these last 10 lbs off so fucking bad
>>
>>77489417
your wrist won't heal on a deficit. it's been over 4 months since i fucked something up trying to do a reverse curl and i still feel pain (but much less than it was in the first month) in the last reps doing normal curls.
i'm a week skinnyfat who discovered i have a nonexistent brachialis so i tried reverse curls with the same weight i do curls with. fucked up my left arm but could do it easily with my right.
weight was 25 pounds.

Other way around. The fewer calories you eat, the more your TDEE will drop with weight. More muscle or more calories = higher TDEE, less muscle or fewer calories = lower TDEE. Not sure why you would give a damn what your TDEE is in the first place if your body fat is where you want it and you have enough energy.

>>77489589
You're simply not allowing your wrist recovery with the DB workout on a deficit, surely you know that. I'm no psychologist but it's sounding like you're spiraling into an eating disorder. I would keep in mind that on a cut, your hormones are messed with and you, in a true sense, are not really all yourself (assuming you're natty)

Timewise, being injured is objectively higher priority than the cut. Because if you accidentally find yourself in snap city then you might need surgery which then needs to be babied for 6 months or so.
Next, the cut has higher priority than the volume of your lifts, which you can't meaningfully progress on a calorie deficit anyway and will stay the same as long as you eat adequate protein and lift just enough to maintain it. Muscle requires a mere fraction of training stimulus for maintenance than it does for growth. So you might as well prioritize finishing out the cut after you let your wrist heal.
Lastly, once your wrist is healed, and you've hit your goal of fat loss, then you can reasonably fixate on something else.
>>
>>77489639
navy method wins yet again. i think it is 4 out of 4 now
>>
>>77489639
Calipers or the online calculator are good enough if you're healthy and active, the entire method is based on estimates and assumptions to begin with. You don't need to prove that something that already works is adequate by using something exceptional.

LDL is only part of the picture and needs to be looked at IN ADDITION to triglycerides, HDL and insulin sensitivity. Elevated LDL in a vacuum means nothing.
One of the biggest markers for risk of heart disease and stroke is familial history. Someone at a healthy weight, in an extended high fat/low carb diet with numbers like minimal trig/insulin and elevated LDL/HDL does not correlate to increased risk of anything like heart disease.

you need carbs
long term imbalance of carbs like with keto can raise cortisol levels. gluconeogenesis believe it or not also does this which is something not really talked about
you are using VLDL for energy which is stressing your body out especially your liver. could also explain your poor sleep
you don't need to go crazy and 100g would be a good starting point. have some potato before your workout and then after. you should notice a difference

If you have the same lean muscle mass, and just lower fat, your TDEE will go down. So either you are mistaken or you gained muscle.
>>
>>77489667
>>77489670
It's still a good idea to lower your LDL to avoid buildup of plaque in the arteries. Introducing carbs and fiber should resolve the high LDL, if it is truly benign and a temporary condition caused by ketosis. Even if you have low "inflammation", the lack of quality sleep alone is another risk factor for heart disease down the line, even if you are at a healthy weight and exercise regularly. The same concept would hold true if you were a smoker instead.

Thanks bro. I started the year at 127 but I haven't really started dieting until April. So January to mid April I pretty much just tried eating less, key word is tried, cutting down on anything unhealthy like sodas, sweets, high calorie foods, take out etc.
I also wasn't that motivated at first so January to April I only got down to 120, but then I finally locked in and cut out all unhealthy shit, jumped on 1200kcal OMAD of potatoes, rice, fruit, meat, veggies. Continued like that until mid May, slowly introduced rolling 48h fasts and since June 1st I've been exclusively fasting for extended periods of time and only eating 3,500-4,000 calories per week only. I wouldn't recommend this cause it wears the fuck out of your body, but if you can consistently roll 48-72h fasts and still eat under your TDEE then you're golden and the weight will melt off

Just how important is exercise for weight loss? I'm also skipping breakfast most days. Is this ok?
>>
>>77489742
>Just how important is exercise for weight loss? I'm also skipping breakfast most days. Is this ok?
It's important insofar as to maintain the lean mass you've naturally built by being fat. Eating protein alone won't preserve it. It needs to be stimulated enough to tell the brain it's still needed. Don't have to go hard lifting or anything tho. Outside of that, exercise isn't important to weight loss. It's just an equation of thermodynamics. Eat less energy than you spend.
>>
>>77489742
>I'm also skipping breakfast most days. Is this ok?
Yes. In fact the longer a period of intermittent fasting, the better. "three square meals a day" is more a thing if you're training to build muscle and already very lean.
>>
>>77489742
If you aren't doing something like fasting then i wouldnt recommend skipping any meals
for the average person with an office job that does minimal exercise (even some exercise) and wants to lose weight, your breakfast should be the biggest meal of the day comprised of mostly fat and protein with minimal carbs. lunch is more balanced between the macros and dinner should be some carbs but more of the other 2. the key is reduce hunger between meals and eliminate snacking and high fat/protein does this. you see those fat HR Karens grazing throughout the day with their morning/afternoon "tea" made up of chips, biscuits and cakes? all whilst sitting around on their asses not moving. that's how you stay a fatass
exercise can be important, depends on your goal. it can help speed up metabolism leading to the weight coming off faster but will require more work
>>

in january i was 125 kg, dropped to 102 kg by april, then balooned to 107 kg by 13 august and now im 99 kg, gw 85-90 kg, depends on how i look at 90
>>
>>77489742
>Just how important is exercise for weight loss?
Exercise is part of a healthy lifestyle anyway as far as your circulatory system and bone density are concerned, even if you don't use your muscles at all in daily life, you should at least go on walks. You're going to want to start exercising after you've hit your fat loss goal, right? You might as well begin something low-effort now while you're in the mood for self improvement.

>I'm also skipping breakfast most days. Is this ok?
The only thing that matters is whether it helps you stick to the diet. If you don't like eating in the morning then don't. If breaking the fast suddenly makes it so that you can only think about food for the rest of the day, then don't eat breakfast. Just go by how your personality is tuned and use common sense. As long as the arithmetic on your macros matches what you've planned, then who can say you're failing?
>>
>>77489570
yeah TDEE should go down. you're now not wearing 15lb's worth of weights everywhere you walk and you don't have to maintain 15lb worth of living tissue.

You need to look at details, and see if they make sense or not. Blurred mashed up nonsense in anatomy, construction in the background etc. There are more tells but they get more niche. Think about creating something yourself. Is this a mistake a human would make? etc.

Actually engage with the piece and try to appreciate understand each part of it. Viewing things as a blob or mishmash and moving on repeatedly is probably what has weakened your observation and standards for illustrations/photos etc. People aren't meticulous on average anymore, just consume and go. You also got to remember that calorie math is always very approximate, approximate is how much you will burn in a day and approximate is how much calories are in your food.
The only strategy which I think makes sense, aswell as the only one which worked for me, is to just reduce your calorie intake by 100 cals a day every monday if you didn't lose enough compared to the previous monday, or add 100 if you lost too much (sometimes wooshes or increased activity could cause that to happen), especially if you notice too much of your weight loss is muscle

it's probably just your glycogen storage, and it also adds 5x times the glycogen storage in water weight. it doesn't really count

why does it have to be a shithole to have low traffic? I live in the suburbs of a non-major city, people go to work and come back and not much other car traffic so the kids can freely play outside without worrying about getting run over
>>77490339
it's paved roads and some dirt roads connecting to some villages not far away, it's basically flat, no rocky terrain or steep hills
I was looking at the 350 one because most bikes I've been looking at are over 1k and this looked like a budget starting point
the cheaper ones seem too flimsy
I don't like buying second hand because I don't want to deal with retards, I've already had a few bad experiences with sellers

>I don't want to deal with retards, I've already had a few bad experiences with sellers
You just scroll, find something you like, offer maybe 5 - 10 pounds less and see if they accept, if not just get it for the asking price, show up there, test it, if all good give the money and bike away, most sellers just want to get rid of their shit and make money so they shouldnt be too retarded

But at the end of the day you do you, if you prefer spending more go for it, hybrid is fine as starting point, if you eventually get the bike autism and start biking 2-3+ hours daily you will want to invest into something better eventually
>>
>>77490434
>fine as starting point
that's really what I was asking, I'm not sure if I'm going to start biking seriously or if I'll end up using it every other sunday for a couple of hours
350 doesn't seem much, all the bikes in the dedicated cycling shops I've seen are like 2k for the most basic model and I don't want to get a potential 4digit paperweight

Came here to say: my check up in June I was 309. From 293 in November 2025.
Couldn't believe it. So I observed my diet.
One or two meals a day. Portion reduced. More exercise mainly club swinging, dumbbells.
Check up last week 292.
At my june '26 checkup, doc asked me if I wanted to go on ozempic, they have in pill form now. I said no, I would try exercise and diet because I know I was slacking hard.
But now I said ok to getting ozempic.
This is my 4th day on it.
What am I in for?

Not very often. I have rx for metformin low dose(diagnosed type 2 beetees in 2018, changed jobs, met with dietitian. Turned to NoCarbs and exercise. Year later no longer diabetic but forever borderline bc weight)
On modafinal daily for sleep apnea since '13.
Have to do check up to keep rx valid at least twice a year.

That's just water and glycogen, my brother. You didn't gain much fat over one day. It's nothing. Just get back at it. Zero problem.

Just plan the next week now while you're fresh. You can plan a cheat meal ahead of time. I had American Chinese takeout a few days ago (fried chicken, fried rice, etc) and my average deficit is still 800kcals

Remember to go to the grocery store after eating a meal, not before. That way you are less likely to buy junk food.

Awesome.
If you have a local online shopping site like Craigslist you can get a great starter bike.
I have bought a 26" mtb for 50$ just for the rims.
I have three Giant Mtb that are monsters on the trails for less than 130$ each.
Most times just need basic maintenance and tube's tires changed.
Mtb is a great hobby and exercise meditation.

It looks decent. I'm not a fan of suspension on cheap bikes, they're usually heavy and add unnecessary weight. I ride a bike with a suspension seat post and fixed forks. I don't like disc brakes either, they're a pain in the ass to adjust and always squealing. The groupset being mixed parts is a concern too, usually manufacturers of a groupset design all the parts to work together. Still it's better than the standard 3x7 gearing you'll see on bullshit groupsets like shimano tourney.

It's going to be fine for what you are doing, but the most important part is that the bike fits you. You need to go sit on it in person and see how the riding position feels and which size frame is right for you. These new bikes don't have adjustable quills which let you raise and lower the handlebars and change the handlebar angle, I believe this is the key factor when it comes to comfort. For your first bike I would recommend getting one that has an adjustable quill.

Pic related is what I've been riding for 10 years now (not the actual bike), you can see the adjustable quill on the handlebars that let you change the angle and it goes up and down into the headset. I'm usually the slowest bike on the road because I sit up high and have a lot of wind resistance, but also the most comfortable so I can ride for 2-3 hours. Also the freehub on this bike makes no noise, I can coast without the normal click-click-click that other bikes make and sneak up on people, I love it.
>>
>>77490744
You fucked up, take it back.
>>
>>77490298
Its fun and you get a workout. But sometimes you'd prefer to coast and be comfy so its hard to keep that high heart BPM at times.

Do you plan on becoming excessively obese and then dropping down to a healthy range for your experiment? If you only need to know when you are down to the ~15% range to adjust your protein intake accordingly, this is literally straw-splitting

If you've identified what you like more then just use that, you're not in engineering school

>what's wrong with it?

Wrong kind of bike, you bought a mountain bike with low gearing made for going up hills in the woods. I know it looks cool but on gravel and paved roads you will both be slow and uncomfortable. Those massive tires will feel like a fucking drag whenver you start pedaling and they will continuously rob energy from you, the front chain ring is tiny and will really limit how fast you can go on the highest gear ratio. Everything I said here>>77490806 about adjustability applies. Do yourself a favor and get a proper hybrid, there's nothing that kills interest in cycling like having to ride a boat anchor.

Your liver generates more cholesterol than you eat in a day. It's not really anything to be concerned about unless you have a hyperspecific sensitivity to it.
