I know that dips do improve bench press but does it improve ohp?
>>

Duh now stop thinking in that way.
>is a squat gonna help my squat
>is a hip hinge gonna help my hip hinge
You should be thinking a row is a bench as a power clean is a back squat.

Any tips on hitting bent-knee dips like in OP's pic? Every time I do 'em, my feet swinging back creates a nasty pendulum effect that totally messes up my reps.
>>
>>77514266
I would say it probably is back strength.
>>
>>77514268
I don't think so. Back is probably my only decent feature.
>>
>>77514266
Just do feet out front. Make yourself into the crescent moon. More stable and more chest and is the correct position for holding a plate steady when you get there.
>>
>>77514225
Yes, it uses a slightly different mix of pectorals but the shoulder portion is nearly identical.
>Pull-Down/pull-ups
>Rows
>Bench/chest press/pushups
>Dips
That's all you need for a well rounded upper body besides some curls & delt flies to make your arms pop. OHP & upright row/face pulls are pure ego & vanity respectively.
>>
I fucking love dips bros
>>
>>77515052
Not true. The dip and bench are interchangeable the ohp is needed for tricep upper chest upper back and side and a bit more rear delt volume. Those pull-ups should be underhand to further involved the biceps and upper chest too

Single arm dumbell OHP was like magic for me personally. Still love it. I broke a plateau on barbel OHP and bench overall when I started doing a lot of them. I don't know why OHP wouldn't be cool, I like the idea of training to get strong enough to pick someone up like a wrestler and toss them through a window. There all those old timey overhead lifts and side presses that are fun to do.
>>
Hear me out: dip bars what are really low to the ground and you use the to do handstand pushups.

Dips are sort of upper. Ody compount movement. Gives you overall boost of upper body strength alongside target muscles. So yes, mich like bench press accelerates all upper body movement power.
Frankly body is so interconnected even your biceps curl will get a boost from a squat for example.

If your goal is OHP then you best are doing weighted dips for 3-5 reps to get a quick boost. If you want genuine lomg term power from dips - bodyweight by dosens, different elbow angles

I don't see why not, I think they probably improve each other.
Also I don't give a fuck what any meathead says, the classic chest out retracted shoulders is a great way to fuck your shoulders up. Shoulder protraction and legs bent forward is key to doing these without ruining yourself, ESPECIALLY if you're doing any sort of overhead press on the same day. Dumb meatheads will say its for pussies or whatever but you're wrong, simple as.

>dip and bench are interchangeable
They're not. And you don't need 3 fucking pectoral lifts. Bench, if you're not doing some powershitter arched back bullshit is already top half dominant and dips are lower half dominant. Dip + bench, unless you're lifting little bitch numbers or volume, is also plenty for triceps, same for pull ups & rows being plenty for biceps, just get better at the lift, distributing the weight through all involved muscles and they'll grow just fine. If you're not getting sufficient growth from those, then your technique is shit. And before any one of you retards tries to correct me, it's the same fucking logic behind the other big compounds. There's plenty of guys doing just squat & DLs for lower body that look & perform fine, why? Because of the technical attention, because of the thorough use of all muscles involved in the lift. When you start giving your upper body compounds the same level of attention, you need less and less accessory work.

Train horizontal dip grip + pulldowns/pull-ups and you're training two halves of muscle ups, the most impressive of all lifts one can do in the gym. Everyone mires the muscle up of any man of decent size. A muscle up is also pretty much required to be a capable man too. Imagine facing some kind of challenge and just getting filtered cause you can't efficiently move your own body up and over obstacles. Kek.

I replaced bench press with dips, and OHP with landmine press. It's a really underappreciated exercise.
>>
>>77514225
Eh? It works your neck and lats?
>>
>>77516989
Landmine press was the key to getting back into pressing for me after my rotator cuff tear, and now I'm at 200lbs OHP, so something worked.
>>
>>77514225
It'll improve the elbow extension strength but won't improve the shoulder strength along the sagittal plane. That tends to be the limited factor so it doesn't "help" that much in hitting a pr. Overhead pressing more would be the best method of improving the overhead press. Dips are NOT A "VERTICAL" PUSH THEY ARE A PUSH-UP REPLACEMENT.

It's not that the dips would actively HURT the overhead press though.

>>77515886
It's more about depressing the scapula, than it is about protracting or retracting the shoulders. You can see them do that in parallel bar routines in gymnastics.

you a boxer?
