Scalp tension is also a factor, slowed blood flow to the scalp is really bad and common. One thing you'll notice is a lot of dudes who are bald have HUGE sagittal keels. As in, you see all these bald dudes with what looks like dents in the sides of their heads that line up exactly where their hairline recedes at the sides. It may be related to androgenic bone growth as this is less common in women.
Of course you do sometimes see people with smooth even chrome domes, but I suspect they have different balding patterns. Look up how Jeff Bezos changed over time. His whole hairline just rose up evenly without the horseshoe shape.
