Is this a meme or is this really all it takes?
>>
congratulations, you have the fitness goal of a middle-aged woman trying to lose a few pounds

>is it a meme
Yes
>is it all it takes
Also yes.
Look the bottom line is bodies need to move. If you want to live a longer pain free life you need to keep moving, ideally something that has balance and crossbody elements (like swinging your arms as you walk) and some level of impact to preserve bone density. Walking is the bare minimum you can do but it fulfills the requirements. People who walk a lot and don't sit and drive are measurably healthier.
Should you stop with walking? Probably not. But if you had a choice between walking and sitting on your fat ass stiffening up and doing a few lifts three times a week, the walking would leave you feeling better.
Keep moving and don't stop till you die.

To get rid of fat

if you are trying to lose weight and you more or less eat your calorie a goal, then do 10,000 steps a day on top of it, it can be a good boost, yeah

And it doubles by getting you out of the house, getting sun, etc.

What cardio do you do, Mr. Macho man?

My advice--walking is excellent for you but the "10,000 steps" number gained prominence because it's a nice even number, not necessarily the most effective amount for everyone.

A huge advantage of walking is that it has the perception of being easy and low effort, and doesn't trigger an intense hunger response like jogging or sprinting.

Test this out yourself--try jogging 2 miles and note the resulting hunger, vs. walking 2 miles...no comparison. But you've still traveled the same distance. You've expended that amount of energy to move your body 2 miles.

Distance I think is a more effective measure than "steps". Depending on your current weight/amount of body fat, just start with a moderate distance then increase over time.

1 mile a day, 1.25 miles a day, 1.5 miles a day, and so on.

FYI, 10,000 steps equates to roughly 4-5 miles depending on stride length.
