if the patient reports they are all healthy mentally and so forth, i wonder to what degree the doctor has any say in keeping them in custody? if it was something like "postpartum depression" its hard for the doctor to say they are highly likely to reoffend and present a danger to people.
what im getting at is that the doctors involved might not be able to keep her in custody even if they wanted. there may be obligations to release if she says the right things. otherwise her appeals could get them into legal trouble if it can be demonstrated. so even if a board of doctors who happen to have a conscience handle her case, they may not fight it when it comes time for her to be evaluated.

this is all speculation, but i believe its likely there are mechanisms like this in the system for handling people like this.

a lot of people these days make the easiest decisions possible and care way more about their career than what's right. they will do whatever keeps them from liability. nothing changes. heinous murderers get off with a slap on the wrist as always. the people following the law get punished.
