I am 26 and started to learn piano a few months ago. Everything was going really well until I got a full-time job. I have to quit now and sell the piano. It's either daily practice with weekly lessons or working out. I thought I could keep up with both, piano and exercise but I don't have the fucking time.Is this normal? I feel so depressed that I don't have the time for a physical AND an artistic hobby. You really have to choose one. Adult life takes to much fucking time, cooking, chores, work, groceries, friends, family, dating...
If you really want to do something, you'll make time for it.
Live can get hard bro but you gotta manage your time better.
>>77542921>not time to do shityes it's normal and thats why everyone hates everything. you got no time for yourself. now imagine kids and you dont even have time to think for yourself.
>>77542921You’re doing the 4chan autism thing where it’s all or nothing. You’ll never be a world class professional piano player and that’s fine. Keep taking lessons if you get enjoyment out of it.
Lift before workPiano before bedYou got this brother I believe in you
>>77542921Ehh I work 12 hours per day and that leaves me with roughly 4 hours to basically workout and rot. Weekends are no exception.Welcome to being an adultI think we have become too obssessed with grinding and achieving this lifestyle we see on social media and that of course takes extreme effort. Our parents used to barely work 40 hours per week and then proceed to complain that they worked too much.
>>77542921>school is 8-4>work is 9-5I don't really see the difference. If you got 12 hour shifts like me then yeah you got no time, but then I make it up on the off days.
>>77543025In school you get to take a variety of classes that switch things up throughout the day. With a full-time job, you’re mostly just going in and doing the same thing every day.
>>77543029How does that affect whether you can work out or not?
>>77543040Work tedium is mentally draining so it’s hard to motivate yourself to leave work and then drive to the gym during the time of day when it’s going to be the most busy. The best office job I ever had was in an office park that had a small communal gym that was almost always empty. It was like having my own private after work spot that I only had to walk across the parking lot to get to.
>>77542921no its not but majority of people dont do anything about it. educate yourself on finance related topics, start investing, reducing working hours as your networth grows. gain more time. its simple but the majority of people refuse to do anything about their situation other than bitching about it with their friends or coworkers.
>>77542921Ideally you should have managed to do something for work that feels like doing it for yourself.
>>77543048I think it’s also okay to go to a financial planner to help you out. Investing in mutual funds or whatever will always be an alien language to me.
>>77542921Yeah it's a bad situation. >>77543046>then drive to the gym during the time of day when it’s going to be the most busy. At least if you have a full-time job, you can possibly afford a home gym. Skip the traffic and the crowds at the local gyms
>>77542921its only possible if you are the type of person who is able to fall asleep instantly and stay asleep. if you take 4 hours to fall asleep you cant really do anything while have a normal job
>>77542921Sounds to me like a time management issue

>>77542921TIME IS A VALUABLE THING WATCH IT FLY BY AS THE PENDULUM SWINGS
cut your workout time short with either bro splits or reduce the frequency. even just working out 3 days a week is good enough for results and maintenance. consider taking classes to remove the mental work of planning, waiting for machines, warming up, etc (theres a reason a lot of rich executives just take HIT classes or join clubs instead of hitting the weight room). Realistically bodybuilding is a unemployed or business owner's hobby. You're gonna just have to go for the lean mode and look good in suits. Start programming your chores. Try to do things as quickly and effectively as possible. Especially cooking and laundry. Consider even using a laundry service that will wash and fold your laundry for you so you aren't wasting a chunk of your day on laundry. I have a w/d at home but will sometimes still go to a laundromat cause I can do 4-5 loads of clothes at the same time. Cooking as well. Cook 2-3 days a week in bulk and just reheat shit through out the week. For Groceries do curbside pickups or delivery. Save your grocery list in whatever app you use ordering groceries. Even amazon fresh has lots of options these days. Also you made time to be on 4chan.
>Everything was going really well until I got a full-time jobYou're only 26 so you have no idea how true this statement is and how it will utterly define your life until you are in a position to exit said job and never return to full-time emgoyment
>>77542921With a full time job? Yes. Full body session is 2 hours, but you also got to travel, shower, prepare beforehand so its more like 3 hours. Also if you do actually lift heavy beyond just fitness reasons but more for strength / powerlift reasons you likely need 1.5 hours more sleep per night. Then you also need to prepare meals a bit better, eat more etc. Then it becomes a lot more than just the 3 sessions of 3 hours per week. >>77543048You can't really reduce working hours with networth growth if your networth growth needs to come from wages. In Europe you have to be a contractor to make the jump to upper middle class. Preferably in something consultancy related like law, IT, software and not blue collar.
>>77542943Cute, I thought so too when I was 20
>>77543521in the end, it doesn't even matter
>>77543511Love it when mentally ill OPs get exposed like this. Very satisfying.
Not a direct answer, but just my two cents. I tried min-maxxing my schedule for productivity. I kept an activity log and documented everything from start to finish, where things took too long, which gaps I could fill, where I've wasted time on unproductive things or entertainment, and evenutally I was basically left with a packed schedule every day with no real downtime. The first few weeks were great. Yeah, you can make the time and you can get a lot more done, but eventually you will burn out. Instead, make a plan of things that really have high priority to you. For those things, you should always make time, and the rest can sometimes wait.
Cooking takes 10-15 minutes tops, what are you talking about niggr
>>77544289See >>77543511. To the surprise of no one, OP wastes inordinate amounts of time repeatedly posting the same thing.
>>77543511wiped his ass
>>77542921>there are 26 year olds who have never even had a full time job. Anyways. If you’re only doing a 40 hour work week you have plenty of time.
> Stressful job, drains mental energy to zero> Workout in the evening drains physically (cardio + strength)> Tired, go to sleep, can't wake up early> Straight to work> Saturday spent winding down> Sunday is personal errandsAnd thid is how I am wasting my youth, for what? A few hundred thousand dollarinos, which can be rug pulled anytime. Fuck my existence.
Well adult life sure sucks ass let me tell you that.24 hours in a day>work is 8h + 30 min commute both ways, so 9h in total15 hours left>you need at least 6 hours of sleep, but the 7-8 is better for your health long term8 hours left>meal prep, cooking, doing dishes, laundry, all the minor tasks that you need to do for a living, at least 2 hours6 hours left>shopping or running various errands + travel time (2h)4 hours left>And in those remaining 4 hours you need to cram gym, social life, some entertainment, visiting family, etc. It's better on weekends, but juggling time between everything is tough.
>>77542921Nah you just haven't worked past the endurance aspect of strength training. You kinda need to get strength before cardio because cardio takes literally less time and less effort and it sticks for longer.
>>77542921Yeah, working sucks. And still there is this whole mentality that if you don't want to work you're some lazy piece of shit. Meanwhile, the wealthy push this mentality for their own profit and their offspring get to enjoy life traveling and cultivating hobbies.Lower your standards in terms of money and enjoy your hobbies the best you can.
there are finger exercises you can do away from the piano that you might be able to do while driving to work or at work. if you go the home gym route you can also practice while resting between sets, and you'll not waste time waiting on equipment or commuting.how does your daily schedule break down?>>77545955>meal prep, cooking, doing dishes, laundry, all the minor tasks that you need to do for a living, at least 2 hours2 hours a day? that's like an hour or two a week.>shopping or running various errands + travel time (2h)who spends 2 hours a day on errands and shopping? i go to the store once every 10 days or so and it takes maybe an hour.
>>77542921>Everything was going really well until I got a full-time job. This right here is the issue. Full-time jobs are soul poison. People are gonna tell you bullshit about how you should allot time differently, make up theoretical time schedules where "you can do both" and bring up calculations of "8 hours of work + 8 hours of sleep that's still 8 hours for gym and piano!!" leaving out all the chores like cooking, cleaning, commuting, eating, hygiene, other prearations and the fact that the entire ordeal saps your ene energy. The truth of the matter is that if you stay in a full-time job, you will forever be feeling rushed and starved for time, for the rest of your life, until you retire.Start looking at what kinds of work you could do 3 days a week and how you can get there. You won't believe how insanely freeing a 3-day workweek is.>but money but but butYou can make it work, and it will give you your actual life back. There are jobs like this, there is nothing prescribing you have to work 5 days a week. Even if you mive farther away for cheaper housing and commute 1.5 hours to work, it just kills your three work days and then you still have 4 left completely for you to live your life.
>>77547778Just to add, the change in how your life will feel really is insane. You go from feeling like "I'm always working, there's only a few days off where I have to rush to get things done" to "I'm mostly having free time and there's only a few days where I have to do some work". The way this shifts your life in your mind is INSANE. Yes the few days of work still might feel annoying but by the time they come around, you've almost forgotten what it's like to be working, the free time feeling becomes the BASELINE. I implore you anon, I beg you, do your best to find a way to try this and you will see that I am not making shit up. It's so liberating.(disclosure: I work 3 days a week but 1 of those is also remote so I only have to spend 2 days a week at some prescribed place of work, and then I spread out the 3rd day's work to whatevert time I feel like it, which might be exacerbating the benefits for me to some degree - but it also does make me think about work in my free time more than I would if I were to just clock 3 days and be done for the week)
>>77542921I work out 5x week, wake up 6am and by 7 am at gym, out by 8. I work out heavy so its good to finish in an hour.I am at job 830, eat 2x during my time there. 1730 drive to pick up gf from her work, home at 18oo. Study/prep/watch movies/write till 2200, aby by 2230 i am in bed.I have time for all hobbies.I also try to focus during my workday.i havesiccessfully found a way to manage my time to compress the (pure work) 8hour workday into 6-6,5hr, leaving me with extra hour to read news and plan my free time or business, and often 30min to take a nap in a spare office.Frankly starting early was the key, and then being disciplined with my time. >>77544115Nigger mentality. I am 40 and still dont have this ugly "i am always late" mentality. You are just a bum.
>>77542921Pay no mind to the underage or NEET anons in this thread who fill their heads with fantasies of infinite willpower and energy. Yes, it fucking sucks to have a full time job, and absolutely yes, it will fuck with your pursuits if you take them seriously. Almost like it's by design... but that's a topic for another thread on another board. My advice would be to master the painful points of the job and cruise through them, it's about reducing friction, so you're still fresh when you get out of there. Picture it like a curve, you want as little spikes as possible, so they don't fuck with your head and exhaust you before you do something else.Stay cool, take it easy. You'll get out of this one, I guarantee it.
Build a decompression protocol for after work, then go play piano and go to the gym, or piano-max your rest days
>>77542921I lift for about 90 min m/tu/th/f before work7-3 at work gives me plenty of time for stuff before catching sleep
>>77547859See >>77543511. OP is a compulsive reposter
>>77542943This is copeIt depends how good you want to beIf you want to be shit at everything, do everything I had to basically give up "getting good" at guitar (pointless anyway) as you need to practice 3+ hours a day. Same with any videogame or whatever Now I'm content to just mess around with a few scales once or twice a weekLifting and bjj are more important to me. I don't want to waste my mental energy on too many other things. It's not only the physical energy it's the mental energy you waste
>>77542921Btw artistic hobbies are female coded especially if you invest a lot of effort into itGet a small guitar and learn a scale and fuck around. Much easier than shitty boring pianoOr draw for fun. Just scribble shit.
I have a home gym and barely work and I still find it hard to have time or motivation to workout or have hobbies LOL
>>77542921you lift x7 days a week?
Do hill sprints, push ups and pull ups. Stop wasting time with roider programs that have you in the gym for an hour. Live your life.

>>77548341'What' absolutely is the same guy? There is nobody else writing what OP wrote. Unless you count the engineer who said he was lifting and playing piano at the same time and just reduced his workout frequency, which is again different to what OP writes.Do you realize that piano/keyboard is like the most or second most common instrument in the northern hemisphere (along with guitar)? It's *the* instrument people pick up when they're 23 and realize they want to start playing an instrument and learning music theory. It's *the* instrument people are told to learn when they ask why the melodies in their FL studio beats suck ass.

>>77542921>Is this normal?Yes, just schedule stuff after work.Gym before the job or during the lunch 12-13 if possible, 06:30 - 07:30, 08-17 work, 19-23 you do whatever you want. Like, piano, or back to the gym, or dating. Then don't spend your Friday/Saturday drinking to be hangover and don't do nothing on Saturday/Sunday.Also do some strategical stuff like live close to work and other things. Can you take the bike 30 minutes to work? Do it. Exercise + getting to work. But also, if you don't have it already - robot vacuum cleaner. Dish machine and find food that you can eat by cooking and not creating dishes or shit that takes forever to cook.
