just noticed the prices have doubled since i last paid attention. seeing people blame ozempic users and food manufacturers adding protein to products, but seems more likely it's caused by wars and trade wars from what I can tell. used to be comparable to chicken breast price but now it's not even worth buying it over boneless skinless chicken. what's the meta now? are you doing anything different for your protein sources?

Great thread. Whey is under the exact same market forces as RAM. Whey manufacturers now have commercial buyers for ozempig protein slop products, so you aren't the target customer anymore. Whatever remaining supply that is left for regular consumers can be charged at even higher prices than what the commercial buyers pay because it is a niche product in a dedicated hobby - there will always be retards willing to pay for it.

you said it. glp1 users need to eat protein instead of carbs or they feel like shit so demand has gone up.

feels like it doubled during covid time because of "supply chain issues" then the companies realized they could juts keep the prices there and people would still buy it. Demand also went up regardless. With protein being in literally everything now

This is more or less the reason. They're able to do this because protein powder isn't an essential food item, it's a "luxury" people purchase by choice.
Remember when eggs got really expensive because of bird flu? As soon the the flocks recovered, egg prices returned to where they were originally. There's so much demand for eggs that it's economically viable to start lowering the prices to undercut your competition once it's possible to do so. Not the case with a niche item like protein powder.

And we'll keep forcing the price higher!
