I mean this both physically and mentally. Can you guys think of some?

Physical:
>Strength
>Flexibility
>Endurance
>Speed
>Balance
>Technique
Trained with weight lifting, stretching, cardio, explosive movement, probably yoga or something, training in your sport, etc.

Mental:
>Reaction speed
>Short term memory
>?????
Trained with ????

Do you understand the question I'm asking? I know how to train for raw strength and raw endurance, how do you train for raw mind powers?
>>
>>77563401
By using your brain, retard. Learn something new and keep learning new stuff especially technical information and anything that combined theoretical knowledge with real world practice. Reaction speed is going to be learned through actual practice or simulation like what F1 drivers do, for short term memory probably those memory dump type games

Don't worry about it, you are clearly capped on that department. Just post more cute tomboys.

You train your brain by learning things. But don't just focus on understanding operational relations and technical details like the other anon said, it's also very important to learn how things interact and work dynamically with multiple factors at play, things like social behavior, culture, philosophy, and so on. A lot of people, however, learn all this in a faulty way where they learn XYZ theory and then apply that throughout as if it's a flawless mechanism. In reality most theories intersect and work varyingly well depending on the situation, and that specifically (i.e. learning to hold and value several different deep theoretical understandings of an issue in your head at the same time) is probably the best mental workout you can do if and when you get there. It takes a while and a lot of research to get to, though, so don't stress if you can't do it off the bat.

Another problem is gonna be your neuroplasticity. As age progresses your brain literally becomes set in its ways and stops wanting to change (think learn) so much. If you want to develop mentally this is a bit of a fuck because learning is your best and really only tool. Apparently psychadelics have a beneficial effect on neuroplasticity, though getting into all that is a field in and of itself.

It's unclear where n-back has transfer. I do find myself:

> just remembering what focus feels like
> keeping better track of conversations
> having more vivid dreams

and that's on 15 minutes a day, but don't expect your WM / fluid intelligence to actually grow.

As you know, IQ is fluid intelligence (WM, what n-back claims to train) and crystallized intelligence - shit you know. So just memorizing stuff long term also makes you seem smarter.

I am not sure n-back is any more valuable than learning an instrument, a skill, etc. But it's definitely better than nothing.

But yea, n-back is a good test to see if you didn't suddenly turn retarded. Juggling and instruments same for no micro-strokes (just check, not prevent), etc.

You can't train for any particular attribute like a video game character, there's no such thing as generalized strength.

You can train to be strong at a particular task but it has very little carryover in basically anything else if that.

Speed even more so, and speed adaptations are very short lived compared to all the others.
Flexibility again is also very task and joint specific.
Balance/Technique are just coordination adaptations, and those obviously are incredibly specific to the task at hand.

Basically you cannot train for any particular attribute you can only train for particular tasks.
>>
>>77564323
That's not fully true, though I completely understand where you are coming from. Let's take cardio for example - that will carry over to just about any activity, regardless of how you got it.

General strength (big 3 lifts) does generalize to carrying random shit, preventing injuries, etc. Most MMA fighters can't bench 3 plates, many can't bench 2, so does it carry over at a high level - no, but it's still injury prevention, ability to train, etc.

Mentally, while you are correct, video games DO increase your ability to navigate in the real world and map environments in your brain. Drawing does help you visualize things. General math / vocab knowledge helps you work on anything - programming, rocket design, etc.

But yes, we are absolutely specialists and the video game / James Bond meme is a very costly cope that a lot of people like me and those on here tried to do.

Common examples are tennis not carrying over to boxing reaction times virtually at all, chess players only memorizing "valid" positions, etc.

The question wouldn't be "does an elite tennis reaction time give you an elite MMA reaction time" the question would be "does an elite tennis reaction time give you a better reaction time than the average MMA novice". The fact is, almost any elite athlete will be better than an average person at ANY sport. An elite lifter would be better at boxing than an average Joe, and an elite boxer will almost certainly have a better bench than the average person. Thats the only valid point of comparison. This is extremely obvious, and it makes me think neither of you have ever actually played sports. Skills are particular, sure, whatever. Skills are especially particular at very high levels, sure, whatever. But to then conclude some kind of broad "there is no such thing as one skill improving another skill" is so ludicrous I don't even know how you don't forget to breathe. Its common sense and really a marvel someone could not disprove this idea just from their own life experience.
>>
>>77564323
I'm not gonna even begin untangling the retarded philosophical distinction you've created between tasks and attributes or how you arbitrarily decide which things are particular or universal, for instance, if I have a wrestling partner, why do I improve at wrestling in general and not just improve at wrestling with that specific person. Its an arbitrary and retarded distinction, and the whole idea falls apart with any scrutiny. What is actually crazy about what you're saying is how this is not immediately disproven by your own life experiences. Are you really telling me you have never experienced being better at something due to your time doing something else?
>>
>>77563401
You can't train reaction speed. That's hardwired and degrades with age. What you actually train is the speed AFTER the initial reaction. In Whack-a-mole, the first signal is your brain recognizing where it popped up, then the trainable aspect is physically moving to the mole to hit it.

Maybe whack-a-mole isn't the best example of a "trainable" game but it's the easiest to envision as an example.
>>
>>77564323
What you've said is true, however generalizations help us understand things better. Another anon mentioned wrestling, so let's go with that.

If you have two genetically identical guys, each practicing wrestling twice a week, the guy who ALSO adds a Monday/Wednesday/Friday split of heavy lifting is going to eventually be the superior wrestler due to his overall strength.

Like the other guy said, your distinction is kind of pointless.
>>
>>77564135
>>77564137
So for n-back, the memory game is visual. Do you think that an audio version of this game could exist? And if so, do you think there would be significant gains in training both ways over one way only?

Just asking for the sake of the discussion, pushing the boundaries of the idea.

how can I train my sense of dramatic writing?
>>
>>77565027
>the guy who ALSO adds a Monday/Wednesday/Friday split of heavy lifting is going to eventually be the superior wrestler due to his overall strength.
nah, at the high level wrestlers will train weights maybe 8 weeks of their training year. the majority of their strength training is through the sport itself and a prolonged increase in resistance volume will degrade their ability to recover from very heavy technical sessions. so it's scheduled to a part of their training calender where they can recover from the effort without impacting the rest of their training. and it's cns recovery we're mainly talking about here.

if you're talking athletics and not being a gymbro then resistance training has to be managed vs your training priorities. olympic and powerlifting are different because the technical training is the strength training, much like gymnastics. wrestling is a little in between.

>If you have two genetically identical guys, each practicing wrestling twice a week, the guy who ALSO adds a Monday/Wednesday/Friday split of heavy lifting is going to eventually be the superior wrestler due to his overall strength.
Did you ignore this part? The entire argument being made?
>>
>>77565107
i didn't ignore that part. it's wrong and it was addressed as such. it's not my fault if you can't infer from the data you're given.

you ALSO added three days a week. you're not adding three days a week. you're periodizing maybe 8 weeks out of a year. those are not the same thing. adding three days a week is going to degrade your technical sessions which will escalate in volume throughout your training period, which when paired with heavy resistance training will reduce the performance of your athlete because they will not be able to recover. if you can't recover, you go backwards and that means your athlete will lose. that's reality.

you can't talk about this shit without periodization. your periodization didn't get past weekly.

Two guys, identical genetics, one trains wrestling 2 times a week, the other trains wrestling 2 times a week and does strength training.

Who wins?

Alright guys so basically all that we've agreed on is short term memory and tom boys, is that right?

Are there no other mental attributes analogous to physical ones that you can think of?
>>

Damn.btw she still got it
>>

Thanks for your post anon, one of the few actual answers
>>
>>77563401
Stress management is a big one for the mental category.
It's really useful to train yourself to still your mind and focus when things seem overwhelmingly complex.
This is crucial to the most important mental skill (imo) which is how to learn effectively.
Learning basically comes down to a combo of memory and focus, but you might never even get there if every time you look in to learning a new hobby/skill you try to quantify everything you need to figure out and get too stressed at the magnitude and abandon the whole idea.

Good post. I've noticed this in my self, and I think a lot of people are crippled by this sort of thing. They lack the ability to just calm down, almost like there's too many people talking to them at once, or something along those lines.

Getting more specific:
>Visual Working Memory (remembering patterns from n steps ago)
>Logical Working Memory (doing basic math/carrying numbers)
>Audio Working Memory (remembering phrases from n steps ago)
>Attention Span (ability to not think about huge fucking tits, letting your thoughts go down the wrong path, while you're doing math or something)
>Mental Resilience (?)

Do you guys think this is making sense?
>>
>>77568342
Yeah there are tests for a lot of these in the brain training groups. Relying on the transfer effect does not seem to be that useful. But the games are pretty fun. People are vibe coding a bunch of n-back quiz like games.
