are there any walking pads that don't burn out after a few months of regular use?
>>
i got a random cheap ass one off amazon and it's lasted a couple years. do you lubricate yours regularly?

Oh boy, here I go again.

I'm on my 4th one. I'm weigh over 200lbs and push these pads pretty hard. I've had a bargain basement one, a couple of mid-tier ones, and am currently on a much higher end one.

Unless you spend big bucks, we're talking 4 digit price tags, they all have the same garbage 2.5hp motor. I had one with a 3hp, but otherwise yeah. And honestly that's no so bad, it's enough motor to do what these are meant for. It's the lack of cooling that kills them. There's no circulation in the housing, just a tiny, inadequate fan on the shaft of the motor providing bare minimum air flow. The motors have no radiator fins, and they're jammed into too small of a space because "low profile".

So get whichever one you like the look of, get it from somewhere that offers a protection plan (wal-mart online for instance), and consider running it with the housing removed or modifying it with something that will move the air through it.

They are made to be used 4 times and then shoved under a bed. Anything more than that is bonus.

Stop being fat lol if it wears out it's because you're too fucking FAT and not making progress
>>

I hate to sound like a fucking disgusting leftist but we really ARE living in "late stage capitalism". Imagine spending hundreds of dollars on a walking pad because you're incapable of taking a nice stroll through the park. Then people will blame genetics for why they're on SSRIs kek.

This generation is so cringe.

You sound like a lefty because the idea that places outside California have more distinct seasons just doesn't occur.
>>

2,5 HP motor you say? that's awful lot of power that you arę NOT generating propelling yourself forward when the ground moves beneath you and u stay stationary
>>
>>77575878
normally i do walk outside, but walking in snow/freezing cold sucks. your gait is impaired by boots, ice, snow, cold, etc etc. my steps natually decrease in winter months for this reason.

>>77575866
im trying i have 20 more lbs to lose and want to up my steps from 10k to 20k with a walking pad.

>>77575865
so basically i should just go on facebook market place or whatever and buy the $50 used ones every few months?

I'm going to give this more respect than it deserves. The power of the motor goes towards overcoming the friction between the belt and the deck of the treadmill when your fat ass is holding it down.

There is some argument to be made about the amount of energy burned on a treadmill vs walking outside, but it's been tested and it's not as big a difference as you'd think. Regardless of that, these walking pads are meant to replace your desk chair, not a real workout, so every minute spent on one is better than nothing, and that's enough.

>craigslist/marketplace
If that's how you want to do it. I order mine online, get them delivered to my house in known good condition, and generally get around 75% of the purchase price back with the protection plan.

It would be nice to find one that held up but didn't cost $2000. If I ever get one I really like I'll probably put some work into rebuilding the housing and ventilating the motor properly.

Wal-mart, only because they have the protection plans. Any brand, they're all the same Chinese shit. I've had them show up identical to the listing but emblazoned with a completely different brand, it means nothing.

/k/ing here, I had the brilliant idea to get my boss to buy one of these so guys that come into the shop and use the gun range can LARP and practice walking while shooting. Kind of surprised he went for it but people seem to like it it’s always being used.

le studies show that you spend MORE energy on treadmill xD
A better match is a 2026 controlled study of 20 healthy young adults (10 men and 10 women; mean ages about 21–23). Participants walked overground and on a treadmill at matched speeds of 1.0, 1.3, and 1.5 m/s. The researchers measured oxygen consumption and found treadmill walking had higher gross and net energy expenditure at all three speeds (p < 0.001). The study reports a strong surface effect, but the abstract and results excerpts don’t give a simple percentage difference, so I wouldn’t translate that into “X% more calories.”
MDPI

That’s a more relevant test for healthy young adults, though it compared a treadmill with an indoor track—not a walking pad with outdoor walking. It also found treadmill walkers took shorter steps and had a faster cadence, which may help explain the difference; it doesn’t establish that belt–deck friction itself makes the user burn extra energy

so it's DIFFERENT, and i couldn't agree more it is VERY DIFFERENT, you're basically balancing on the damn thing, meaning you're necessarily hunched forward, and you want to walk tall, you want to propell yourself forward confidently, like:

>>
>>77575812
anything less than a 4hp won't cut it ever, it will always breakdown, it's not meant for men above 180lbs.
the grease also dries within a few weeks if used daily and has to be greased minimum once a month, adding to friction and burnout.
the drag from the inefficient cylinder systems makes this worst.

Maybe you are running too fast.
