Redpill me on toe-shoes (in relation to the gym)
>>
>>77576174
Performative bullshit that has no advantage over regular barefoot shoes.
>>

Redpill me on barefoot shoes?
>>
>>77576182
Regular shoes don't let you use your feet muscles very well, especially the balls of your feet, which can be particularly useful for lifting stuff. Barefoot shoes also let you bend your foot down and conform to unleveled surfaces like standing on rocks, hills, etc. They're just extremely versatile in all situations. Obviously specialized shoes like running shoes are still better for running but barefoot shoes are good for all situations.
>>
>>77576211
What's the difference between that and a wide-shoe, if you mind me asking?
>>
>>77576228
The size of your foot is the difference. If your foot is wide like your foot shape is a triangle instead of a rectangle, you'll want wide toe shoes.

Hm yes I see that makes sense. Since I'm barefoot most of the time, whenever possible, my feet are wider than normal. Unfortunately they are (dangerously) flat
>>
>>77576174
They are pretty nice. They hurt to run in (0 support) but on chill walks they are perfect. They get stinky easy because you dont wear socks with them.
>>
>>77576278
Based employer. They look ridiculous.
>>
>>77576346
You can get thin, toed-socks for cheap and they work well, although they are a bit annoying to get on.
>>
>>77576174
Unnecessary. Wear flexible sandals with tabi socks.
>>
>>77576514
>Unnecessary.
I like wearing Aramid insoles inside much beefier shoes, which are *generally* unnecessary, except that one time I accidentally a roofing nail but escaped injury due to footware selection.
>>
>>77576177
This. if anything they’re worse to wear because they chafe more. buy normal barefoot shoes.
>t.toeshoe runner and barefoot shoes enjoyer
>>
>>77576182
Basically this

+ Barefoot shoes also help improve posture and take strain off of joints. Going barefoot in general is good for you, but barefoot shoes are the next best thing. Couple them with a proper striking pattern such as toe striking and you will be preventing 90% of the knee damage that happens to normal people.
More strength, longevity, healthier joints, generally more spacious and open so less likely to get bad smelling feet and other foot complications.
But ya, I'd also recommend going barefoot wherever you can, its a great time, like unlocking a sixth sense.
>>
>>77576177
calling toe-shoes or barefoot shoes performative is performative bullshit

I really like the design and feel of Peluvas but I couldn't get them the fit the shape of my foot right. I have mountain feet where my index toe is the longest toe.

I like picrel a lot too. They are Vivobarefoot tabis. They are a bit of the best of both worlds and actually look cool too.
>>
>>77576174
I've been wearing them for about 10 years and they fixed every hip problem i had (SI joint issues, even went to weeks or physical therapy for it). Many knees /hips / back problems originate at the foot. Regular shoes have a rise in the heel which throws your posture off, so your knees etc have to accommodate.
I'm a big fan

TOE SHOES ARE MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO CLEAN
>>
>>77577938
I never clean my shoes desu~
>>
>>77576174
It’s nice to be able to go straight from the treadmill to the power rack and have shoes that work well for both
>>
>>77576182
They fixed arch cramps in my right foot from my factory job in required steel toe boots. I've been wearing them for years ever since unless it snows.

Normal shoes are giga unnatural, if nothing else you should have shoes with a wide toebox because the way normal shoes cram your toes together is just nonsense with 0 benefit, unlike soles which can be useful to dampen impacts on hard surfaces which sadly humans spend most time on nowadays.

Barefoot shoes on natural surface (dirt, stones, tree roots etc.) feel amazing they literally make me want to break out into a run randomly. On concrete they're kinda weird and you have to learn to walk in a different way because heel striking with no padding is uncomfortable (and probably bad for the joints).
>>
>>77576177
>regular barefoot shoes
too narrow.
>>
>>77577938
most of them should be machine washable. check the instructions.

The only person I've seen wear these at my gym is a guy I call "Steve Jobs". Not only does he look like Steve Jobs but the day he appeared on my radar he was wearing a athletic long-sleeved turtle neck and those gay shoes. He was in the squat rack next to me doing some body rows with a bar racked at a very high (easy) angle and dead lifts with 65 pounds total. His young daughter, i assume, walked up to him and tried to say something to which he replied very loudly and rudely "I CANT HEEEAAARRRR YOUUU", he had airpods in and she just 180 walked away looking like someone just shit in her cheerios. Now I always notice him doing faggy shit wearing those gay shoes.
>>
>>77576843
why the FUCK do all shoes have to have this nonsense "narrowing at the front" shape. Surely there aren't actual people asking for their shoes to be narrow at their toes and for their toes to be crammed closer together
it's even a "sportsy functional shoe" yet it still has this bullshit

I just don't buy it. My meniscus was removed after a football injury at age 11. Every step I take my knee bones smash into each other with zero padding. The padding in my shoes is the only thing cushioning the impact. I still prefer a wide toe box, so I only wear stuff like crocs or Altra's, but I've tried true ''barefoot'' shoes and they definitely didn't take strain off of my joints.

I’m calling out the lie that unpadded footwear somehow reduces strain on your joints. Even with intact meniscus, it obviously doesn’t.

Just get normal bare-foot shoes. They are the most comfortable shoes I have had.
>>
>>77581793
I'd wager that it in fact does because it allows your body to spread the stress over all available joints in the chain rather than limiting it to just those higher up the chain. If you have a modern high drop arch supporting shoe it locks your foot in an unnatural position without flex so your ankle, knee, and hip take all the stress. Particularly your knees since your ankle isn't really used, especially if you heel strike which such shoes encourage or enforce. If you remove that bullshit paralyzing your foot then the stress is spread out over more joints, in particular those that are meant to dissipate it. Initially, assuming you strike mid or forefoot, your arch should begin to flatten as it dampens the strike, and your ankle will bend as your heel comes to the ground, taking up the majority of stress in that gigantic damper/spring in the back of your lower leg (you know the thicc ass achilles tendon and calf muscle), only once that has taken the brunt of the impact does the little remaining stress travel up the chain to your knee and hip and spine.

I have been wearing Xero shoes for a while, and this kind of shoe has been life-changing. They’re actually really great in the gym, too.
>>
>>77584380
how about in sub zero temps?
>>
>>77584394
NTA, but I own a pair of winter bare foots. you can get anything damn near any type of shoe in a barefoot variant. including hiking and winter boots.
>>
>>77584394
Haven’t worn them in subzero and likely won’t since that’s boot weather for me. But anecdotally, I just did a heavy workout in them, and it’s like deadlifting barefoot and having support at the same time. Very good feeling and connection with the floor. Your feet may hurt for a while when getting used to them, though.
