I have been “planning” to lift in the morning for almost a month now but every time I just press snooze on my alarm and sleep in.

Tips for building the discipline to force myself to go in the morning?
>>
baby steps.
first get out of bed/chair. stand up, do a task, get busy, go clean your bedroom or wash the dishes, work, whatever.
when you're focused and in the zone, simply decide to go to the gym.
since you've been active for a while, it will seem easier. also, don't fucking press snooze and just wake up lol sorry
>>
Just lift at a different time so you don't need to wake up earlier than you want to.

t. sleep disorder haver

Put your alarm clock across the room, somewhere you have to stand to get to. Also get a really annoying alarm.

the plan is not working
you set a hard goal: "lift in the morning"
instead set the goal as: "lift today"
then you snoozing does not become an easy out

You've unironically been undermining your own will power by breaking promises to yourself. Realize that if you frequently tell yourself you'll do something and then don't you become internally conflicted.

You just need to go to bed earlier.

I had this bart simpson alarm clock as a kid, used to shout "HEY DUDE WAKEUP AND GET OUT OF BED!"

it was so loud my parents took it back to the shop

this is the honest truth OP. if you don't have the willpower to get out of bed earlier, try going to bed earlier. it's a lot easier to exert willpower when the higher order functions of your brain are actually working as opposed to when you're being prematurely awoken from restorative sleep

also, consider one of those apps like sleep cycle that measures your sleep stages and wakes you up when you're in light sleep, there's significantly less inertia

Echoing the sentiments from others you never, ever want to force yourself . Forcing yourself is just denying your own body what it naturally wants to do - literally conspiring against yourself. The only possible way that could be a good thing would be if the body was getting tricked by say food or drugs or something like that, then you could try to override it. But sleep? Definitely, definitely, never override your body trying to sleep more no matter what clowns say. Look at any data - lack of sleep is going to destroy your gains, harm your testosterone, growth hormone plummets, dramatically increase risk of dementia later in life, and it only stands to reason it's stressing and harming your cardiovascular system as well.

Similarly if you really don't feel like lifting in the morning - don't do it. Why impose it on yourself. If you ever listen to any of the old age people the number 1 advice they give is to be stress free, that stress kills. Why would you do it to yourself?! Goggins etc. can do it because they're genetically wired to tolerate it well, don't fall for that trap, you will ruin yourself and age yourself. Now this is obviously not to say that you can be a pussy lifting or that you can't go one night on less sleep, it's saying if you have to force something too much especially dragging yourself from the one source of abundance and replenishing your body will automatically give yourself - don't do it.

I sleep the best and have the least problem with getting up early if I've gone swimming the day before. There was also a time when I had a 20-minute yoga routine before bedtime daily and I always slept exactly 7.5 hours as long as I kept it up. If I were you I'd do roughly the following:
>clean or at least declutter bedroom
>place a comfy but not too demanding book on the bed
>go to work or the equivalent
>after work, go for a swim. try to be in the pool for 30 minutes even if it's your first time
>after swimming, go to the stretching area and do some yoga. if you don't know what to do, just do downward facing dog and cobra pose plus whatever normal stretches you can think of
>come home and do whatever you're supposed to do
>nine hours before your desired wakeup time, go to bed and read the book until you fall asleep. no screens until you wake up the next day
sleep well, Anon.

>ex-wife leaves to live abroad
>move back into the empty apartment, now all mine
>mate texts if I want to get fucked up
>drink heavily
>still wake up at 6am
>skip gym, instead wander aimlessly and chew on plain fried eggs
>get to the office
>mind starts racing
>gonna nope out early and lift heavy like a motherfucker
Anon, you gotta get heavily addicted to the gym to the point where it’s unhealthy. No other way.

How old are you OP? When I was in my late teens and twenties I would wake up at 4am to hit the gym before beginning my day at 7am, it didn’t need discipline, I wanted the benefits and was willing to do anything for them. Now as I approach my 40s my schedule begins at 10 at the earliest, meaning I wouldn’t even need to wake up that early to manage a morning workout but I just don’t do it, in fact I rarely go to the gym more than twice a week, because I don’t want it that much anymore. Admittedly it’s because I lifted to look good and have success with women, but now that I have money they are automatically attracted to me so the whole fizeek shtick seems redundant. So maybe try to think about your intentions, obtaining self help advice concerning discipline on a Vietnamese baschet weaving forum can’t help you if you don’t really believe and want it.

try to reward yourself. i got lucky and there are plenty of gym bunnies in the morning, better quality than the afternoon. after a while you will just get up. maybe dont even go to the gym at first, just do something you enjoy

afternoon lifting > morning lifting

Pro-tip for motivation: Remind yourself of why you're doing it.

Why do you want to do this anon? Now as you're sitting here? Keep it short and simple.
When the alarm hits and your mind is elsewhere, remember the reason.
You'll be motivated to wake up and sleeping in will feel like a personal betrayal.
