this is the most fun lift
>>
>>77589345
Just did some for the first time in a few months. Holy shit I'm weak, but also felt really good.
>>
>>77589345
Only works if you do low weights like this guy. If you do it heavy your back rounds and it becomes a standing bench press
>>
>>77589346
how did you feel? my lats always feel jacked after doing ohp for the first time after a long period off
>>
>>77589345
top 5 most fun lifts
1. muscle ups
2. pull ups
3. bench press
4. ohp
5. ???

Power cleans
>>

What is normal for a beginner on this exercise? I recently started workout out, and can easily do 10kg on either side of the bar. My brother tells me that's very weak, but someone sperged out at me in a thread and accused me of lying, saying there's no way a beginner can do that. Who is telling the truth?
>>
>>77589345
I really like behind the head ohp
>>77589347
Behind head ohp helps prevent this
>>
>>77589345
Tempted to do them seated with the same bar and weight as op pic.
>>
>>77589683
40kgs is not "very" weak but far from impossible it's the weight I started with back then, don't listen to the dyels here
>>
>>77589683
40kg as a beginner starting out is very solid. It's not unheard of, but most people without an athletic background probably start lower.
>>
>>77589345
>this is the most fun lift
Doesn't look like it. Guy isn't even smiling
>>
I hate that you have to move head out of the way and can't rest it on the shoulders when you go out of balance. Which happens constantly when you start to OHP around your bodyweight.

Bradfords or behind the neck are more fun. Or behind the neck push press.

Dips

I usually do standing btn ohp but I was so high and paranoid last time I opted for the smith machine with the two handles.
>>
>>77589345
Powerlifting is the retarded impotent brother of olympic weightlifting, and so are the press and bench to the jerk, the squat to the clean, and the deadlift to the snatch.
>>
>>77590148
Standing stiff and pushing heavy weights overhead is one of the manliest movements. Cope.

>>77589345
It's also kind of useless. I got mine up to 110kg for 2 reps and it didn't carry over at all to my bench or anything else. It's mostly a cope movement who have poor benches.
>>
>>77590168
Vertical pressing is useless because it didn't improve my hip thrusts

clean and press
cheating curls

>Vertical pressing is useless because it didn't improve my hip thrusts
so true
>>
>>77590148
That's moronic. The powerlifting lifts are far more useful than the Olympic ones. Olympic lifting is pointless outside of competition.
>>
>>77590161
>>77590253
Explain to me how when I put 150kg overhead with an explosive full body moment it was less manly and useful than when I put 90kg overhead with just my arms.

How did you get the strength to put 150 kg overhead
>>
what is more likely to hurt my anterior delt, overhead press or heavy machine chest press? one of them did not sure whos guilty. while the motion i would tihnk overhead press, the chest press was starting from a really deep position
>>
>>77590360
I do some Olympic weightlifting general training
>>
>>77589683
If you can do it with clean form thats good for someone who is new to lifting, especially if you are doing it for multiple reps, but its not insane or unbelievable, its still noob numbers.
>>
>>77589612
Push ups and its variants
>>
>>77590148
oly lifters strict press in training you retard
>>
>>77589345
I just recently did 90kg, 2pl8 coming soon
this and deadlift are my only lifts that get mires in the gym
>>
>>77590336
Oly movements are too technical and are built around a barbell. You're wasting your time learning le technique because you could be getting same stimulus from heavy kbs in half the time. But that's still pointless because irl crap is inconveniently shaped and someone tossing a 100kg sandbag over the shoulder is actually capable of exhibiting his strength irl while you get 0 muscle and 0 functional strength.

Powerlifters otoh build actual muscle and the muscles required to hoist heavy crap are the same they train - thoracic/lumbar extensors, hips, pecs (yes you need pecs to bearhug things), etc.
>>
>>77589345
People very rarely seem to want to do this lift from what I have seen. Its hard and probably very taxing on the body for most. I do them though I should have been doing them years ago.
>>
>>77590693
>Its hard and probably very taxing on the body for most
Not really it's just kinda scary and requires you to feel out the balance a bit, it's kinda like how everyone does leg press instead of squatting because it looks and feels scary
>>
>>77590696
These people are shitters anon I assure you. I do agree with what you said but I don't think most even have a properly balanced body to do those lifts. That youtube channel squat university I think even has videos about correcting muscle and joint imbalances some people have that prevents them from squatting properly.

I would say that this is the highest test lift of them all. Every man should be doing this.
>>
>>77590707
well yeah you have to keep at it even if you suck at first, which 90% of people will, that's why so little people do stuff like OHP, squats, deadlifts, despite being essential core exercises, they require you stick with it for a while before they stop feeling like total shit, I remember I even had to start off squatting with just bodyweight while holding onto bars to get the form down, people don't like stuff that doesn't have instant payoff or feel good right away.
>>
>>77590712
I say it should stay this way. These people are often a nuisance at gyms anyway. I remember one time seeing some stupid bitch on the leg press years ago on her phone for like 30 minutes just hogging it up not even doing anything or she barely did.

>>
>>77589612
if squats and deadlifts aren't fun to you then you're a lil bitch
>>
I have been lifting for 10 years (probably a total of 1-2 years off if you count surgeries and various bullshit that hit me) and my ohp is only 55kg for 2 reps.
Im 191cm with a 203cm wingspan.
Is it me genetic limit brehs?
>>
>>77591194
no way youre lifting consistently
>>
>>77591204
I do, i tried everything except roids.
SS, 5/3/1, westside, brosplits, PPL (the worst),gzcl, candy toe, pavel tsatsouline stuff (best results for me btw), nothing works.
>>
>>77591194
I bet you're doing it wrong. Try to keep your elbows forward
>>
>>77589345
Yes, I need to do more of them.
>>
>>77591194
As a 194cm doing 5x5 at 80kg, your core and glutes are weak.
>>
>>77589683
Aaah so your the larper from the other thread. no one walks in the gym able to lift that weight so just stop
>>
>>77590240
Hahahahaha what is this guy on
>>
>>77590396
Regular ass lifting for muscle at least at some point and the movement separates is probably an even better way to increase sports specific strength. Clean and jerk is the gayest lift ever though. What part of lifting is starting from the ground and then lowering it and bouncing it off your legs? That is technique, not strength. And the technique is entirely useless and makes you look super gay also.
>>
>>77591194
You're training wrong
>>
>>77591194
You might be holding it too close or too far apart, also is this ohp or strict press?
>>
>>77589612
bicep curls are the original goat
>>
>>77589345
OHP always saps all the strength in me in a way no other exercise does
>>
ohp is my fav exercise desu
recently did 70kg for the first time
>>
>>77591594
Strict press.
>>77591452
My glutes are underdevelopped yeah, i cant do hip thrusts at all due to a surgery. I dont feel RDL at all in my glutes, im just spamming kb swings rn hoping it will somehow work.
My core is very strong, i can do standing ab wheels and i can carry a deer on my back for kilometers, i can do strapless farmer walks for 400m (one stadium lap) with 40kg in each hand.

Fuck this lift breh.
>>
its great, I love it
>>
>>77592076
you rep mog me by 1 rep and weight mog me by 5 lb
But I will have the last laugh
>>
>>77592301
this is my motivation to move to 4x6
>>
>>77590148
I have no idea why you commented this, overhead press is not a powerlifting movement and actually has more to do with Olympic weightlifting.
>>
>>77591469
Surely you're kidding? I think I was moving 80 lbs (~36 kg) as working weight within my first month of the gym, and that's when I was a 135 lb absolute shrimp of a teenager. There's no reason a man with a somewhat better base couldn't rep 40 kg as a starting point.
