Anyone here in the trades? I'm a welder and sometimes it's really hard to get my ass to the gym after a long ahift inhaling metals
How do you make it work?
>>
>>77591575
You can only lift before work, not after.
>t. fabricator
>>
You get an adflo helmet and work smart not hard
>>
>>77591582
That would mean waking up at 5am fuck
But yeah i guess
I did slme fabricator work. Requires big brain + cant take measure to save my life
>>
>>77591613
Bro it's the only realistic way to get it done. I could only train consistently before work. It's not easy to wake up earlier but you can get over that hump, wear yesterday's clothes to the gym if you need, slam an espresso, whatever. After work you hit the couch and that's it, game over, you go parasympathetic.
Also, from a bird's-eye view, keeping yourself jacked and healthy is more important than having extra performance at a welding job. It's kind of like how you put the heaviest compounds at the start of your workout so you're fresh for them.

i put boxes onto shelves
at least i don't get sunburned anymore
>>
>>77591575
>inhaling metals
no metals aren't air soluble bot :D

Heavy lifting uses high-intensity, short bursts of power. It actually gets your nervous system primed for lower-intensity, manual labor. Manual labor causes prolonged metabolic fatigue and depletes your glycogen so you don't have the energy to lift heavy later.
>>
>>77591617
True. Fuck it. I'll do it. Thanks
>>77591631
Makes sense
>>
>>77591617
Spot on. Prioritizing what's most important by doing it in the morning and waking up early in the morning to do it is one of the most helpful cliches in life.
>>
>>77591654
The only thing you really need to pay attention to is fatigue management and choosing a split that doesn't kill multiple big muscle groups on the same day. Also, here's a compromise I sometimes use: Say today is chest and triceps. Then I do all my chest exercises in the morning and save the easier triceps exercises for after work. Yes, there's a risk I won't do them at all, and yes, I'll miss out on the immediate pre-fatigue effect, but realistically, I know it'll be an easy workout that's still effective. In the worst-case scenario, I'll skip triceps, but I've already worked the main target muscles, and the tris have at least been worked a little.

take care of your lungs bro that shit has to last your entire life unless you want to be a cripple on oxygen
>>
>>77591681
Yeah that's a great idea honestly. I normally just lift very heavy on one main compound then, i go heavy on one machine ans then fuck around a lil bit not too much on other machines or cables
>>
Look up dan john's stuff.
Armor building formula (bulking) and Easy strength (cutting) are both very good for normal people.

Do short workouts targeting specific things you want to improve. Mine takes 10 minutes.
>>
>>77591654
No problem. Also your minimalistic routine you mention here >>77591754 is practically ideal for this.
>>
I do the same shit but im on the road half the year so I have to force myself into the hotel fitness center after work everyday. Its damn near impossible at the start but you get used to forcing yourself to lift. Its starting the lift thats hard
>>
>>77591582
This, or during the weekend. Listen to your body.
>>
Don't do a bunch of junk volume.

I was a welder too and I found that lifting heavy weights every other day is generally incompatible with this profession.
I was sleeping like 10 hours a day and still woke up like I had been ran over by a bus. And that was in my early 20s.
If you're going to work out, I don't think you can train with extreme intensity or any type of exercise that fries your central nervous system.
Maybe a calisthenics workout, and only if you're going to sleep early religiously, perfect sleep every day without fault.

Also, the irony of getting paid to move pieces of metal at work only for later to pay to move pieces of metal at the gym in your free time.

doing gym has made realise that the deskjob is a shit lifestyle, how does a cad designer get into fab, i also know a little bit of welding, but i want to keep my lungs healthy for heavy rows
>>
>>77592507
>cad designer get into fab
Nta but this seems like you would probably fit in. Just learn to weld and use basic tools like the grinder, measuring tape, hammer, screwdriver etc etc
>>
>>77591613
You don't start at 5? I get up at 3.
>>
>>77592507
Wear a low profile respirator or at least N95 under your mask. Fuck the idiots who will razz you.
t. Is religious about PPE after seeing too many young idiots get injured and heard too many old idiots bitching about their health problems
>>
>>77592507
You don't need to be certified, every shop will test you, but if you are certified the test is usually just a formality.
Learn MIG well; how to set your machine properly and how to read the print will put you ahead of 25% of the welders I have ever seen. TIG is where the real money is.
>>
>>77592981
N95s aren't even that great; I'm not a tradie but do some welding and always use at least a P100 with organic vapor filtration, if not an SCBA for shit like galvanized steel and refractory alloys.
>>
>>77592992
Agreed, but it is better than absolutely nothing, like most guys do and then stand around on break bitching about inadequate ventilation.
Galvanized is a whole other beast, that shit is straight up toxic.
>>
>>77591575
Idk why I never realised welders breathe in metal fumes and shit. I hope you wear some type of respirator
>>
>>77592981
>>77592992
>>77593005
Funny, I have never welded in my live, but I've used all the masks you guys mentioned.
T. pharma "elite" wagecuck
>>
>>77593013
What kills me is when I see them grinding. Then they don't even have the mask to at least direct some of the shit in the air away from their face.
I always has have eye and ear pro and at least an n95 on. Typically gloves too. I always keep a bandana on me just in case we end up somewhere where I don't have a mask, so at least I have something. Or in case I need an ad hoc bandage or TQ.
I see guys running cutting wheels on angle grinders with the guard removed, raw.

I think you got the point of the gym

Wait till you find out when most adults wake up. Oh no, you'll have to stop scrolling in bed.
>>
>>77591575
wear a ventilated mask retard
>my coworkers will call me a faggot
yeah and manganism will give you dementia while lung cancer kills you
i also find it way easier to weld when you have a fan blowing cool air at you instead of cooking your face off but it depends what you're welding if that matters
>>77592981
>>77593102
this isn't really practical and is more expensive in the long run
>>77593092
i had some safety cunt tell me i couldn't grind with my mask on because it wasn't impact rated (despite obviously being sturdy enough) once so i had to use goggles instead since apparently only my eyes matter not the rest of my face

grinding dust is too large to be likely to cause serious long term injury unless you're doing it nonstop but blowing that crap out of your nose all day is awful
metal fumes are far more dangerous
you can see it in older welders too the effects are self evident in their personality
