Found 3 T30's recently and got one to work, the one on the left has the typical memory issue they all eventually develop I'm going to try reflowing it and see if I can get it to come up. The right one had a dim screen and I swapped a screen from the 3rd one that also probably has the memory issue and got it to come up.

Mobile P4 1.6's with Radeon 7500 graphics, these will probably end up as spares for my race car. The one that got a replacement screen will get a 2.4ghz P4, 2gb RAM and an IDE to MSATA drive. All three have good batteries that take a charge.

is the X13 better than a t14 gen1 from ebay? I found a good deal for the x13 but its bios locked...

Depends. Do you want a stolen 13 incher that might be on the cops' radar, or a 14 incher you control?
>>
i got a t480 at a yardsale, it looks like its never been used and the battery has 5 cycles on it. i7, 32gb, 512gb, mx250, and 1080p touchscreen. its insane you people are paying $300 for these, my dell 5400 is worth about a hundred bucks and hps are literally worthless unless they're new. i guess ill pocket $300 tho

I'm looking for some help/advice for my recent purchase of a 15.6" P15 Gen 2 ThinkPad. I've been looking for impact cases and have yet to find anything that fits the dimensions. Does anyone have any recommendations for compatible hard shell or rubber cases for on-site rugged laptop work?
>>
>>108854325
im buying a t490 instead because its the only secondhand thinkpad with 16gb ram. i dont care about the cpu because its going to be used for lightweight tasks.
>>
>>108853482
nice, but P4 is way to ancient even for my taste. still sexy though.
scored t450s for 20$ and 8470p for 10$. t450s has locked bios, but it booted from non-uefi hdd and my son is already playing minecraft on it so I'm going to leave it as it is for now.

Man I want a T30 but my local flea marketplace only has R-series laptops. There was a T42 last time I checked tho, maybe one of those times I'll find it.

Why did the T480 get memed so much lately?

Also, what would be the thinkpad equivalent to a decent gaming laptop? I imagine some of the P series. I've been shocked at the complete lack of decent graphics cards the Thinkpad series has, to where I even feel my older inspiron ran better some low res games than my t490

Should've gotten a gaming laptop. Had my eyes on a victus
>>
>>108862672
T480 is the new X230; JewTubers shilling, and niggercattle falling for memes easily. There's also the fact that some vendors are implementing coin-clipping practices by removing RAM modules and selling them separately; a consequence of ramageddon, and just general global trade getting raped by a certain pseudo-kike. T480s is still priced relatively sane since most are weary of soldered RAM, and niggercattle follow suit.

> thinkpad equivalent to a decent gaming laptop

probably a dell precision with a RTX card

Hi, I got an old x301 upgraded with 4gb of ram and an ssd.

I use it for 3 things:
>Browsing the web
>Openoffice stuff
>Recording the screen

and everything works fine expect browsing the web. It's slow and shit himself when I open like 3 tabs on 4chan.

I installed Linux Mint xfce on it, should I install TinyCore linux or something?

>Battery failed due to normal wear

Did I colossally F up by not resetting the battery gauge in time?
Is it normal to replace your battery after 4 years, no matter how you nurse it?

What the actual fuck, is the laptop market ruined by the RAMpocalypse at this point or is HP just a shit brand?

What prepaid phone plan, if such can be used, would work best for thinkpads? What phone carriers would allow thinkpads to be added on a plan?
>>
>>108865082
Gauge has nothing to do with it. Maybe you let the battery sit fully discharged for too long, maybe it was just a lemon.
>>
>>108865887
nobody says this.

>>108868048
The fuck was I supposed to say? Could I get a SIM from Tracfone or Boost, so I can play around with 4G internet?
>>
My workplace is asking me to pick a refurbished/second hand laptop. I was looking at the X1 line. 16GB of ram should be enough since i’ll be installing linux anyway. The G10 with their P processors seems appealing, but people online seem to dislike them. What are your thoughts /g/? And what do they mean when they say “reasonable price”? We’re a 20 ppl organization.

Personally I rock an X200, modded T420s (panel upgrade) and an T14 G1. The latter is severely underwhelming performance wise and the stock panel is awful.

Is this general dead because of lack of good thinkpads?
>>
>>108875217
We'll see when the first supposedly improved ones go off-lease next year
>>
>>108875217
Lots of reasons - modding is almost exclusive to marginally-useful legacy models, there are fewer interchangeable parts between Thinkpads, there are fewer ports - internal and external - for niche modules, they're more expensive (for lesser quality).....

Just got a T14s gen 2 and I didn't realize it was a privacy screen model. How bad did I blow it? Otherwise it's great for what I need, I used to refurbish lenovo's and this was my favorite model of the bunch for the price. Is there a monitor upgrade for this model to add 120hz by any chance?

Business pricing is often half of what is quoted online for consumers. At least that's the way it is with Dell.

Privacy guard are only on 500 nits 1080p, so it's maximum brightness which is pretty good.

Which specs did you get and how much it was?

16gigs with the intel 1185G7 for 210 bucks. I just needed something to do arduino programming and cad with small assemblies at work. I'm pretty happy with it's performance for what I need.
