No, it doesn't matter if 99% of your city voted NO on data centers, or that the officials you elect are supposed to represent you.

Data centers arguably are more important than the needs of the few, primarily, the citizens. It's extremely important for the US to compete with China, and the US can't do that without having data centers everywhere. The country as a whole matters more than what citizens want.

Sorry, but if you don't like data centers being built right to you, or even on top of your property, where you're being evicted from, because it's closer to a fresh water source with power lines connected directly to it, then you should move. Don't like data centers? Then move.

having said that i don't see voters not being OK with it since nobody is organizing against it in immutable fashion.
voters also don't vote for different candidates with alternative agendas.
voters also don't rally behind grassroot movements establishing a true alternative to whatever nations political landscape.
henceforth voters are still OK with it all.

Actually they have decent homes, not just 600sqft. The trick is that it is the least affordable market on the planet, even worse on the basis of salaries. So how is it possible? Answer: the parents collect money from all the family friends, get into debt, and remortgage or even sell the house to be able to afford the downpayment for the children. In exchange, the children accept that the parents will live with them. In other words, only people who've lived in china for generations upon generations, or the mega rich, can afford housing at all.

I left the ameritard market altogether and now work in yurop. I make 70% of what I used to and now work as an "AI" """engineer""". Proper 40h work weeks, no bullshit, full remote.

In ameritardland, my last job was as a mixed solutions engineer/sales engineer/customer success/developer position. Everyone at the company was expected to work minimum 80h a week. One colleague who was new dared to take lunch on the sofa instead of eating while working once and he was told in no uncertain terms that if he keeps it up, he's getting fired.
After about 4 months on the job, I was told I punch way above my weight, and I'm definitely getting a raise at the 6 months salary review mark because of how much I was overperforming. I singlehandedly rescued a deal that was about to fall through because of attempted sabotage on the client side (they had a consultant whom we were replacing, and he wasn't happy about it), I was solely credited for the success of 3 of the 5 biggest deals this quarter because of how quickly I could spin out high-quality demos for sales outreach, I was instrumental in fixing key parts of our platform, and so forth. I was also paid peanuts: 10 years prior I used to be paid 20% more, but the job market became really fucked. Realistically with my extra experience I was supposed to make 50% more than I was paid.
Come the 6 months salary review I'm told again I'm the best hire they've ever had. I ask about the raise. They fire me on the spot unironically.
The thing is, this isn't an isolated incident at all. My entire career was kinda like that. In one workplace someone unironically sucked the boss's dick to become promoted to manager on the day where another employee was supposed to be promoted for the position. The boss rushed out the door to interrupt the promotion speech and all after getting his dick sucked. Is that not cutthroat enough for you? I was almost fired for "only" working 60h a week in one job.

Newnan in Coweta County isn't really rural. It's part of metro Atlanta, which is why this outlying community is being sacrificed to fuel Atlanta's growth.
The power company used routing software to find the path through the county that would be the cheapest for the power company to acquire the land without adding a bunch of extra length to the route. If this family doesn't want to sell, there are many alternate routes Georgia Power can use, but those will cost more. With the ability to call on the government to invoke eminent domain, the power company won't even entertain the thought of a different route. Also real estate values for the edge counties have been rising rapidly. I have my doubts that Georgia Power's offer is actually 25% over market rate as they claim.

These towns people dont want anything. They refuse to allow new developments and force the government to pay 3x the rate for health services in the area because nobody wants to fucking live there.

Look the average age of these towns up. All of them are retirement towns. They found the only young home owner to take a picture of.

>Look the average age of these towns up.
Ok, I did.
>As of the 2020 census, Newnan had a population of 42,549. The median age was 35.7 years. 25.0% of residents were under the age of 18 and 13.1% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 87.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 84.1 males age 18 and over.
>99.9% of residents lived in urban areas, while 0.1% lived in rural areas.
>There were 16,618 households in Newnan, including 10,013 families; 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 43.3% were married-couple households, 16.6% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 34.1% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 28.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
The average age is less than 36. That's quite the amazing retirement age.

Democracy is and always has been an illusion there to make you think you have control of anything.
Nobody would leave any decision worth making in the hands of uneducated masses. They can't be trusted to make the right one.
No matter which party or figurehead is in the musical chair at this time, the things rich and powerful people want to happen will be made to happen, no matter what the people want.
You control nothing. Nothing you do matters. Get back on your treadmill, worm.

You know the funny thing is, nobody would care if its just a regular sized server farm out in whatever industrial park the town has using a normal amount of energy.
But part of the whole datacenter hype bullshit is building everything with giga in the name, investors seem to get massive boners whenever they hear the word.

They need to done town the gigaplexes, build smaller, build more distributed (though I can see why they'd be against that, because they need more staff at more sites), maybe tide residents over with improved internet backbone to the town.

People do want things there.
A lot of these rural areas are in poverty precisely because of some type of industrial base left.
It should also wake people up that the most vocal people often don't live in the aera or have a stable income/job.

I'd really like to find one person who has the slightest interest in tech who lives fairly close to a DC actually denounce it. They are probably busy filling out applications.
>>
In this situation, there are two issues: the new data center and the power lines connecting to it. The Coweta County Commission rezoned land that had been set aside for natural conservation and designated it industrial so the new data center could locate there. People will be wary of donating land to conservation districts if local governments can do away with the conservation status anytime some industry shows up wanting cheap, open land instead of acquiring through the normal methods in industrial zones.
The second issue is the need for new power transmission lines from a power plant to the data center. The power company, tech company, and local government can claim that's a public good since the electricity is distributed to everyone in the area. They of course leave out that the new capacity is required due to the new data center.
>>
>>108866138
This is dogshit money lol. I live in Canada, and I had a family friend who bought a house not too long ago, and the government paid them 300% for the home just a few years later because they wanted to build a new line for a rail.

Data centers provide some temporary construction jobs, many filled by crews the company brings in. Once the data center is up an running, there's very few humans involved, and only a small number of those jobs go to the existing local community.
>>

>>
>>108866180
Sad to see when a single large company provides most of the best paid jobs in the town, and the rest of the ecosystem of the town forms around it, and then something happens, the company gets bought out, or the owners pass away and the inheritors sell it on, or just plain bad economics means it's shut down, possibly moved somewhere cheaper but the people, and town are kind of stuck there trapped in mortgages they can't afford because that well paid job disappeared.

Maybe we should euthanise towns like that, bulldoze it, relocate the people, and maybe a datacenter is a better use of it.
>>
>>108866244
The towns would be fine if there wasn't an ideological push to outsource. It's not even because it's a burden to companies to use American labor but ask any liberal/progressive what they think about industrial work and you'll get some shit about conditions in the great depression.
Go to any meeting about a new plant or industrial project well before the DC crazy and check the people protesting it. It's definitely not anyone who worked at a plant or in a industrial park.

>>
>>108862680
I always question these stories anyways.

I read a story (from a left-wing propaganda source) a few days ago about some old couple losing pressure in their well water and they blamed a data center that was built 330 yards away. They claimed the data center was "stealing" their well water.

The problem (that the propaganda channel didn't mention)? The data center wasn't even running on the local well water, it was getting city water from a completely separate reservoir.

The fact is, their well probably collapsed, it happens, especially if it was in sand/sandstone. I would know this because I grew up with well water, luckily ours was shale, so the chance of collapse is much lower, but shale gets a very slimy orange iron-oxide, so you need to change your filters constantly, whereas sandstone is a great natural filter.

The government ostensibly IS a worker republic so their power base is predicated on protecting workers. The corollary is that automation is PEAK Marxism, liberating the worker from labor exploitation. I'd say the Chinese are more aligned to AI automation as a society but are limited by just how much you can feasibly do with robots and LLMS with present day technology; if you buy the narrative that their frontier labs and industries are as good or better than US ones then the small impact of these very labs on Chinese labor right now is potentially indicative that the impact of automation is vastly overstated in practice.

The second amendment is a security blanket. It grants zero power to 99% of Americans. It doesn't guarantee any political power. It doesn't guarantee any financial power. It doesn't guarantee any judicial power. It is literally a license to carry toys.

The last 1% of this axiom is what 99% of law enforcement uses as justification to arm itself to the extent of most small countries militaries. We HAVE to drive around in MRAPs, use LIDAR vans on protestors, use real bullets on protestors, and utterly shut down and arrest anyone who isn't constantly licking our boot. There's a 1% chance they have a gun. The people killed in Waco were never proven to have been shooting at police, but the suspicion that they were armed is what resulted in their deaths through trapping them into a compound and burning them alive, and the second amendment individuals who should have protested this didn't do squat because "At least I have muh gunz!!!"

We would unironically be better off as a nation politically if we really DIDN'T have a 2A, or the 2A was interpreted so strictly as to only apply to cap+ball percussion weapons, flintlocks, and black powder and only carried by an armed militia. Because if we didn't have retards clutching their AR-shaped pearls, it wouldn't be as easy for the Government to do things like Eminent Domain, Drive Police around in a tank to enforce it, Use drones to survey anyone who may want to protest it, and then stop the public who may want to vote against it from ever seeing the politicians who are pushing it. If those politicians live in this country at all as demonstrated by Kentucky's recent race.

I'm not even a democrat, I've just noticed how much the 2A has failed our political system in every metric it was set up to prevent. Leave it to jews to take an objective freedom that is unique among every country in the world and pervert it into being another shackle for their own slavery.

I'm American and I honestly don't remember this. Some news just doesn't fly across the country like everywhere else. If it does, its forgotten within a day. And before you say "zoomer", that's just how our news is over here. No one gives a shit because they either don't report everything or stop reporting over "REAL NEWS" which is just following celebrities 24/7 or race bait. Its a serious problem over here because you still have 40-60% of the country in the dark about most things going on in the country, let alone the world.

As for your main point, the idea of owning land is alien to more than half the county. Very few people own land and its usually seen as something for people who are rich or prosperous and nobody is going to defend them. Retarded take I know. My guess in that pic is the situation somehow got turned into a thing about race and those "people" started calling land owners and defenders racist and started defending the government.

Even if given free land, its just not worth the effort in owning because you have to deal with shit like that on a daily bases. Even though I said I don't remember that pic, there's been hundreds of thousands of these similar cases for over 100 years and they usually never end well. Its to the point where the idea of owning land sounds like a burden.

in a modern democracy you don't actually get to vote on what happens you vote on the people who then get to vote on what happens and these people can just lie and vote however they want or get bribed to vote some other way
hope this helps

In America, they put freeways through cities and tore down buildings to put parking lots in the 1950s. You really think they wouldn't pull the same shit again, especially when they have more power?
>>
>>108866138
Lol bad luck, if she was a crony capitalist type she could've had politician friends that told her ahead of the projects and just buy all the land in that area just before the government magically gave her a 1000% markup for each.

I wonder how the west gets away with spamming articles like this.

>empty subway in the middle of nowhere
>now there's a city around it
>empty buildings in the middle of nowhere
>now there are people and businesses everywhere
>overproduction of solar panel and wind mills
>now they are everywhere and every country wants them to decouple from oil
>empty data centers everywhere
>???

In city planning not a thing in the west anymore?

How fucking deranged do you have to be to see white people getting their rights taken away from them and go "heh, they were brown so they deserved it". Absolutely diabolical.

anon, if voting ever changed anything (((they))) would make it illegal
the fact that it's mandatory in shitholes like australia should tell you everything you need to know.

In real democracies, the president can pardon hundreds of his Jewish friends from prison after they've scammed people out of billions, and then do it again after they've been released. The president can also make sure he and his family is safe from ever being audited by the IRS because he can just make any law he wants.

"The people" would vote themselves back to using candles in straw huts. It's all fun and "natural" until your harvest fails and you need to decide which half of your kids get to eat this winter. Don't let german philosophy (i.e. white guilt) destroy humanity.

governmentologists unironically believe nature does this

How many times in the last 500 years has civilization had to bail out the Amish? Serious question.

>It's extremely important for the US to compete with China
Actually the US is institutionally racist, sexist, homophobic, and worst of all: antisemitic, so it is
a good thing if China wins. China never enslaved niggers nor holocausted kikes so therefore they are just better people. Inb4
>America didnt do the hall of cost
America is Amalek just like Nazi Germany, Ancient Rome, etc. Its the same evil people.

It's not even the tech bros, it's the power company who is threatening to take her property. Tech bros don't get their hands dirty with the details of how electricity gets to them. They simply demand a certain amount and tell the utility to provide it to them.
>>
>>108873056
They got approval for it, but they don't have to build it all at once. They can build out slowly as energy and water capacity gets freed up and upgraded to support the DC.

Thus far, AI has given humanity AI cat videos
In return AI has taken from humanity
>our jobs
>our homes
>our land
>our clean air
>our electricity
>our water
>our internet

Why does it feel like AI is trying to kill humanity? Not help us?
In all respects of the word, AI is a parasite to humanity.

They do not. Local governments get bribed so that the business pays no taxes. The locals pay MORE for having data centers.
Idiot.

Why is /g/ slurping the corporate AI balls so much anyway.
Sure AI is neat, but it's being pushed down our throats too much and making computer resources scares for the rest of us, and consolidating knowledge and power in a concerning way.

But fuck artists I guess.
>>
>>108871687
Don't forget the president can now, apparently, arrange to pay his Proud Boy and company brownshirts like $1M each now for their loyal service at the Capitol. Funny fucking shit there $2B in tax dollars for this shit but god forbid you don't pay student loans or want healthcare in this MIGA state.

bots and paid astroturfing, the public net is dead

it's not 2006 anymore, starting to believe it's increasingly the latter. You see a weird neo-puritan wave of posting from time to time too on 4chan of all places. It has to be paid, the rich are realizing online posts control public thought and are using the same strategies they use for other media. /g/ was completely different in terms of the types of posters it attracted just a couple of years ago
