Should I buy a NUC? They're so cute...
>>
yes i use my nuc to stream plex and generate pictures of very fat naked women using stable diffusion via the 3060 egpu i have hooked up
>>
Seems too fragile.
>>
Is the Skull Canyon NUC rare? I kind of want it for being "gaming grade".

No you
>>
>>108864408
yes, these are the best, most reliable mini pcs
avoid chinks

Those things are about 0.5 litre and can get noisy if you work them hard.

The same guts in a 1 litre box can run quieter.
Consider lenovo tiny / hp mini / dell micro.

Another potential annoyance is that it needs a power brick.

Dell Micro is really nice. I've got a 3070.
I also run a NUC which is nice but I like the Dell because I feel it has a little more "umph."

what router looking thing is that?
>>
>>108866590
Glinet GL-AXT1800 with a fan I found on Amazon under it. It was overheating bad being used as a 24/7 home router

Instead of buying a jank tier mini, why not just chuck a NUC in a fanless chassis to eliminate noise?
Akasa sells them for most NUC models in different form factors.

if the mac mini counts as a NUC then yeah
if not then no, they're overpriced as fuck for what they are
>>
>>108868182
I don't have one. I know.
It's on the list!
>>

If you get one of these things, never change the RAM while the power adapter is plugged in. I fried one doing that luckily it was one of my cheap ones.
Always disconnect the power adapter and wait a few minutes first. Apparently there is still some sort of power going to the RAM sticks even if the system is "off".

Dam son. Are you serious?

I know Skull Canyon had Iris Pro, but still.
>>
>>108870317
yeah well you don't have to take the battery out to change the ram in a laptop so I thought it would be fine. it's not like the cpu is supposed to be powered on when the pc is completely off.

i like my hades nuc
theyre pretty nifty little machines, i used one in my truck when i traveled and now it's on a shelf in my rack. i dont think i would recommend getting the shitty cube ones with celerons but if it has an i7 its worth it. the hades ones have dual nvme slots, i only have one populated but i boot it from usb and when i can get a matching nvme drive i wanna use raid 1 for the storage
>>108865687
i dont think so, i just picked one up on ebay a couple years ago for cheap
>>108870366
has an rx vega discrete gpu silly. you can also use both if you wanna pass it through to a vm
>>
>>108868178
None of those cases are sexy.

How is this still a thing in 2026 with USB-C PD and PoE and all that other good stuff.
>>
>>108871617
Your Hades has Vega, Skull only has its iGPU.
Tho both also have TB3, so you could use an eGPU too.
>>
>>108864408
>Should I buy a NUC?
Yes, get a used one.
Much better performance than shitty ARM SoCs, at a comparable idle power draw, and much more reliable.
>>
CMOS battery dead on my NUC8.... it's so over
>>
>>108870366
That's exactly why I want it. Gen 9 graphics has mature drivers on both Windows and Linux.
