Rule of thumb is not to overspend especially if this is all new to you. You'll likely get everything you need already for 100 to 200 bucks. Premium "can" be better but this comes with a price and eventually you just pay for snake oil. I'd stay away from random online sources claiming things to be the best as well. audioscience can be somewhat trusted I guess but I'd still take it with a grain of salt. I think FiiO and Fosi have some more budget friendly DACs, Schiit tends to be popular but there are so many brands. The Cambridge DacMagic 200m I used for a long time is already more pricy but other than the ground loop I had with the device turned off it's simple and works just fine. Otherwise you may want to look up the recommendations of the headphone general in the archives

I had some sort of power surge and my PC would only attempt boot but then would stop in a split second. I replaced the PSU, but now the computer won't even attempt to boot. GRE has the better chip, a cut down Navi 31 vs. Navi 32.
AMD also undertuned the GRE card's stock VRAM frequency which is needed for mobile GPUs.
There's a significant amount of VRAM OCing headroom with that card (2250 MHz vs 2438 MHz memory clock for the 7800 XT).
They probably didn't care to test a higher memory frequency version of the GRE chip.

well anyways i am running a 9070xt which pulls about the same as a 7900xtx from last gen

used DDU for a clean reinstall of NVidia drivers and now all my games are chugging and running worse. think its been too long (10-15 min in game of metaphor re) for it to be the shader cache and vulkcan seems fine after driver reinstall, heres the DDU settings:

i would do that because it would boot the boot manager of your windows ssd install on your hdd. you'd have to turn off your sata port or unplug the hdd so only the ssd is visible during install.

I'm in the process of planning my rebuild for my home server/NAS/automation etc box and I'm trying to decide if I should throw in one of my 'old' GPUs

I need a new 4k screen.
my previous one finally croaked after only working for about 5 months with the RGB loop problem.
its a XG27UCDMG and the problem is that when I turn it off it ends up in this annoying RGB loop where it blasts red, blue, green, white colors fullscreen in an endless loop.
I kinda got around it having to unplug it fully, hold the button down for like 20 seconds, clicking it once, waiting 6 minutes until some relay in there clicks and then running the installation for its firmware, then there is a 50/50 chance the screen turns on or gets stuck in the loop again.
what a piece of Asus shit but from what I gathered all these screens are fucking garbage nowadays and my problem (among other issues) seems to be very common.
So what kinda Screen should I get now to replace this Asus turd?

Just squeeze some cheap flat temp sensors in between the fins of the radiator. Works perfectly fine here in my ALF. I get a nice delta from the sensor close to the IN-tube and the sensor close to the OUT-tube. It increases from ~1°C idle system to ~3-4°C @100% workload. Throttling the pump increased the delta only slightly by ~0.5°C.

Should I build a PC now and get the best parts I can get or should I wait until next year where all the new DDR6 RAM, GPU, and CPU lines come out?
The recent Nvidia 5000 series lineup was full of AI shit and fake frame generation, so is there any confirmation that the upcoming stuff is gonna be more of the same? Is this the last Gen to get "real" hardware with "real" performance? Will scalpers and supply lines still be an issue in 2027 and just fuck my waiting time?
I'm thinking of getting an AMD CPU and GPU since it would benefit Isreal the least, but I'm not sure if there is any info you anons may have that would render this idea mute or neutered; work and life has made it hard for me to keep track of AMD, intel, and Nvidia to see who's fucking their customers the least.

Rtx6000 should be a die shrunk rtx5000 with more of every structure (shaders, rops, tensors etc.) and more clock speed. And a couple of niche hardware features here and there that won't be used for several years, just like what we saw going from rtx3000 to rtx4000
Rdna5 will be a huge uarch upgrade to include all the hardware features that's missing in rdna4, since it's funded by Sony and Microsoft, so it should be on par with rtx5000 in feature set at the least
