Holy fucking shit the state of tech is fucking absurd lmfao.

$750 fucking dollars to a watch pirated torrents remotely in a decent wrapper?

Plex isn't even a good product, it's fucking ass, it just happens to be marginally better than the open source alternatives.

How the fuck is there still no proper alternative?

yes i know this means that theyre effectively retiring life-pass and just wants everyone to go subscription based.

Yes i am fully aware of jellyfin and emby.

Yes i know a fucking HDMI cord to your TV with VLC does 90% of the job.

BUT 750 fucking dollars for a glorified ffmpeg wrapper?

>"if its so bad why dont you just go to jellyfin"
fuck off lol

It's about the fucking attitude. A project that is a fork of an open source project. They hired like 30 people to do what exactly?

but actually, regardless of your opinions. 750??? SEVEN HOUNDRED FIFTY for a fucking torrent streamer. LMFAO
>>
>>108876055
that's a "we don't want to sell lifetime passes anymore but still want to pretend we do" price, no one is expected to pay that much
i bought it years ago for $100 and will continue using it until they enshittify, if that happens i'll switch to jellyfin or whatever but for now i'm too lazy
>>
>>108876055
Plex pass is totally unnecessary
>>
>>108876116
it is if you host a server with remote consumers like friends / parents etc.
and switching is annoying as i'd need to tell all consumers of my server to move apps, some of them are literal tech illiterate boomers
>>
>>108876055
Plex is for retards and retards are for grifting so I don't see the problem with this.
>>
>>108876139
>everything i can't afford is for retards
you'll grow out of this edgy mentality one day when you get a job

you are a literal retard if you use plex. ask claude to generate a docker compose for jellyfin and you're done lmao
>>
>>108876174
jellyfin isn't as polished and feature complete and doesn't work on as many platforms as plex
>>
>>108876177
How many platforms do you need Jellyfin to work on?
>>
>>108876285
all of them, and i just want that fucking shit to WORK. It's 2026, i should not have to fucking deal with pre-transcoding in handbrake and ensuring bullshit audio codecs works ((considering plex just weerks))

how come even the combined genius of open source devs cant match what 30 pink haired DEI hires can squeeze out of mfmpeg and being nice to platform devs that allow them to publish their shitty(but still the best of the shitty options) app?
>>
>>108876127
If you are running your own self-hosted pirate streaming service to your friends/family, then surely you can get them to pitch in to deal with costs.
>>
I never got how this pos got so popular
its literally a kodi clone
>>
>>108876055
To think wm4 was cucked by them...
>>
>>108876055
why does it make you so mad
you don't have to buy it lol
>>
>>108876153
>you'll grow out of this edgy mentality one day when you get a job
And then start pirating a bunch of 4k movies? lol
>>
>>108876055
I still don't get the point of paying to host something on your own server

>>108876127
Like if you have a server and it has media on it and your friends can connect to your server, why does plex require payment before you're allowed to stream your media to your friends connected to your server?
Unless this is actually for a service where you stream to some Plex cloud servers and your friends can connect to Plex directly, to avoid opening your home network or something? If it's a fee to pay their cloud service that would make sense, but everyone talks about it as if you have to pay to literally use your own server
>>
>>108876177
What are the features you're missing that you need to pay $750 for?
>>
I've had mine for 6 years now, been using Plex for 10.
I wonder when they'll try to cancel my licence, probably in another 10 years or so.
They'll make a "Plex 2" then shutdown the Plex 1 auth servers.
>>
>>108876055
>fuck off lol
Kill yourself.
>>
>>108876127
It's not even if you're a fucking faggot that loves to suck Plex cock setup tailscale for your retard friends and you're done.
>>
>>108876363
>i should not have to fucking deal with pre-transcoding in handbrake
That's a plex problem if you don't have a license. You never have to pre-transcode??? anything. Seriously what the fuck pre-transcode? What kind of fucking bullshit are you making up? Kill yourself.
>>
>>108878054
They just make up problems the only two valid ones are
>too dumb to use a VPN or setup firewall rules
>plexamp
Anything else is cope
>metadata
Cope.
>>
>op specifically tells you not to seeth
>you seeth anyways
why is this so common
>>
>>108876174
If you run an off-shelf NAS there's also probably a pre built package for it
>>108876177
It's better, actually. Plex is a piece of shit that never just werks.
>>
>>108876363
sounds like a skill issue, transcoding in jellyfin just werks
t. Intel Arc A310
>>
I've been trying out a couple of the alternative Jellyfin AndroidTV clients and moon fin is pretty cool, feels really close to a 'real' streaming service. Just a pity there's a few UI issues - mainly to me the user image and series logo overlap slightly on the main menu.
>>
>>108876055
I have a vague memory of buying this for $70 on some black friday and i still feel kind of uneasy that i did, but back then i knew nothing about anything so it made sense.
still use it though
