Wrong. This is the refreshed model announced this week, aka the snazzily named "Surface Laptop for Business 13 inch". The 8GB/256GB model is coming later this year at $1299. Outrageous pricing when compared to the MacBook with double the RAM and storage
>>
>>108876508
this garbage should be $500
>>
>>108876508
>there's always a bigger retard on the block.
No shit.
But yes, apple is overpriced.
That's the general concensus on apple.

Business laptop gives hefty discount if you buy 100+ of them. You're not meant to buy only one laptop unless it's a clearance sales.
>>
>>108876686
So it's not a Surface Laptop 8, then.
>>
Yeah, this is why the Microsoft surface line is so perplexing to me. What's the point of buying it? You're paying more for worse specs. Especially with ARM Windows, what are you actually gonna do on it? You genuinely might as well buy a Mac if you're this retard brained.

>riveted keyboard that requires total destruction of the chassis to replace
I agree with the general message of your post but this is just wrong. You can rip out the rivets just fine even without any screws and install a new keyboard quite comfortably within 60-90 minutes. There will be a bit more flex but it is very doable and like a 20 bucks replacement part.

>>108876508
I bought my wife a Neo and love that thing, Apple has been doing great since they switched to their own silicone.

>The first demands you sign a class action waiver, scans all your pictures and drawings, phones home periodic screenshots, installs a keylogger, scans all the devices on your network, advertises to you, and generally does the bidding of microsoft.
>The second scans all your pictures and sends your information to apple.
>Normalfaggots will pay for the privilege
The cost is way too high, even before accounting for the monetary price.

>paying 1100 for a computer in 2026
no thanks

Brands, quality etc aside, I don't understand how the trend of shipping laptops with storage units like 256 gigabytes or 512 gigabytes is even a thing. It's been going on for a decade at least, way before the hardware squeeze due to AI, and totally commensurate with the availability of high-density drives and the cost of storage actually going down.

Is this, essentially, directly because of the prevalence of cloud and streaming services? I don't understand how people can get by with that little storage, especially as operating systems become more and more bloated. Do modern operating systems like Windows and macOS not actually store your photos and videos and music on the actual computer? I've been a Linux user since the XP days and have rarely actually touched a Windows or Mac OS box since so excuse my ignorance.
>>
>>108876508
For me, the expensive part is the horrible usability. I wouldn't get a mac if it was free
>>
>>108878890
better than shitdows, ranjesh.
>>
>>108878893
Not really, no.
>>
>>108878893
It's a good thing I'm not forced to run Windows or Mac OS.
>>
No one except my dad buys anything surface.
But OP, that macbook air m5 has a 60hz display. That's already unacceptable for $1,100.
>>
>>108878847
they correctly assume that people no longer download large videos, images, and audio files to their computer because of the advent of streaming, and they use these stubby M.2 drives so its hard to find replacement drives with large capacities
>>
>>108878847
A lot of people buying these just use cloudshit
Something funny is that thunderbolt/USB speeds got fast enough that you can essentially run these systems off external drives as fast if not faster than the included internal drive.
>>
>>108878975
That's the reason Google keeps trying with Chromebooks/Pixelbook/Google looks. They're a logical much better alternative to macs for loads of people, but Google (and MS, Samsung, Xiaomi etc. for that matter) fail to understand is that Apple isn't a tech company, it's a cult that has been brainwashing their 'customers' for decades. You can't win those people over simply with something that is perfect for them and cheap.
>>
>>108879012
Sure, for people who just want a browser and a fucking video player it's probably more than enough. My sister uses an android tablet so it's mostly suitable.
For anyone expecting to do any work (that doesn't involve Excel) it's a completely different deal
>>
>>108876546
....so?
>>
>>108879075
how are you gonna install an os retard? use secureboot? do anything?
>>
>>108879396
It has its own bootloader, but also a superior OS preinstalled
>>
>>108879403
so how exactly am i supposed to install a bootloader?
its basically e-waste

>>108876546

Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite (12 Core), 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD only costs $1799.99 and it is reasonably competitive and within 80% of the performance of the Apple MacBook Air M1, the "for Business" version of the Surface Laptop 8 is overpriced
>>
>>108880953
The 15" variant of Surface Laptop 7, I mean, the 13.8" is a bit cucked by the cooling system

what's wrong with macOS?
It's like Linux without the bad UI.
>>

>Apple products are overpriced
They used to be, but now everything is as expensive as Apple products.
>>
The problem with Apple is that you get locked into their abysmal ecosystem and Macbooks in particular are extremely restrictive with you can actually do on them. I would always recommend a $600 Lenovo over any Macbook.
>>
>>108876508
apple products are overpriced to the average /g/ poorfag that thinks buying a used 10 year old $75 stinkpad is a luxury purchase
