Which way, white man?
this one
>>108888473I already know openRC from Gentoo, so I'd just use that
I use Devuan but Dinit is beautiful.
I use fedora or debian because I just want to use my computer not troon out to retarded shit.
>>108888504I wish they would start supporting runit more, right now if you install runit on Devuan it will still majorly depend on sysv scripts, and it will run those scripts in stages similar to sysvinit runlevels, this is just slapping runit on top of sysv scripts and not how runit was designed to run.Same thing with openrc.Devuan team really doesn't bother implementing support for anything other than sysv, they just slapped openrc and runit on top of sysv scripts, made few custom scripts and called it a day.Artix on the other hand spends more effort into making proper scripts and integrating different inits. It's a shame because I like Devuan more than Artix but I have to admit they should stop using sysv as the default, literally anything (except systemd) is better.
>>108888473Not s6, it is technologically impressive but it gets a little tiring hunting down the little details about how everything works when you just want it to get out of the way and get on with your life. I think I'll transplant my s6 installation to runit soon, it looks much simpler.
Is it normal to experience a massive increase in system responsiveness when switching away from systemd? I moved from debian to devuan (with openrc) and the difference in snappiness is the same as going from windows to linux.
>>108888473They literally fucked everything up at least 2 times over the last two months (and no it wasn't Arch's fault). They don't have the manpower nor the resources to keep this project alive.
>>108889405Explain please?
>>108889405Things do seem very dire at the moment, it would appear the prophecies were right all along. One must install Gentoo at once.
requirements:- it must be runtime based- it must be declarative styleadditional requirement:- developer must know what "declarative" style is, i recently had to educate a retard claimed 20 years of compukter experience what declarative is.further milestones:- make it TUI
>>108889405it's been almost a year, I have no idea why I still have to do https://archlinux.org/news/linux-firmware-2025061312fe085f-5-upgrade-requires-manual-intervention/ on every fresh Artix install in this day and agememe distro
>>108888473>no GNU Shepherd
>>108888473systemd because I'm not a schizo
>>108888473Out of the 4, I'm only familiar with openrc and runit. Openrc is a more "complete" init system, while runit focuses purely on simplicity. Runit makes it really easy to write your own services (just shell scripts), but if you're not doing that just use openrc.
>>108888473OpenRC.
>>108890963Nothing wrong with being a cumal lover, why are gentoo devs like that?
>>108888473s6 seems cool and featureful. The docker container for frigate uses it, so it must have some merit. runit is my favorite for simplicity. openrc just werks. dinit has promise, but haven't used it to know if it's ready to go or has some rough edges. It seems like the newest of the bunch.
>>108888696they're always accepting volunteersgo through IRC, the forums are... weird.
>>108889380yes, systemd is bloated and unoptimized
>>108888473Alpine Linux with Arch and Debian containers.
