I recently had to clear cookies, but the option for "stable volume" on youtube no longer appears, even after multiple attempts clearing cookies again and even changing browsers.
How do I make sure I have this godawful "feature" disabled? It normally is on by default and I'm worried it may no longer be possible to disable it.

Hey tech anons!! /x/ fag here c:

I'm making a map from uap drone footage for fun

Is there any software that overlays video frames together and aligns them through some sort of motion tracking? (thinking maybe aftereffects)

The end result is something like picrel that I slapped together manually after many hours lelel

It's fine if not just wanna get a higher quality result for less manhours

Thanks all!! <3

Question:
How much slower is it to browse through lots of picture galleries (100-300 .jpg pictures per gallery) on a mechanical hard drive compared to an ssd? (unzipped of course, not browsing through zipped folders)

Hard drive is CMR (not SMR)
SSD has DRAM cache

Because SSD is limited space
so I can't fit that many galleries
on an SSD

Also, I'm using FastStone Image Viewer right now, and have been for the last 6-7 years. I'm happy with it, but what does the image viewer landscape look like now? I've seen many newcomers but haven't dabbled with them.

Thanks in advance

Issue with an external drive and its been like this for at least 2 years. Some pictures and videos wont open from the drive but they copy over to my desktop perfectly fine and I can open them then. >>108891023
Are they huge images? Do you go through them fast?
EVO SSD read speed : 560 MBps
Ironwolf NAS Drive read speed : 180 MBps
So about three times slower than the SSD.
The only variable is your read speed.
Try to time yourself for like 10 minutes and count the image size. You'll get your own needed read speed. If it's above 180 MBps then you'll need the ssd.
Another option is to make sure all images are preloading in fastStone in your ram first. Go grab yourself something to eat and then use the PC.

What's the best/easiest way to back up entire drives regularly?
A while ago I bought a USB to SATA drive dock thing and have been trying to use Aomei Backupper (a very old version) to clone my drives every month or so, but it's extremely unstable with the larger drives and very often they seem to disconnect or power down for no obvious reason half way through a backup.
I haven't tried other cloning software so I'm not sure if it's an issue with that side of things, or if it's just a cheap dock.

Any recommendations for decent drive cloning software (FOSS if possible?) or good quality USB to SATA drive docks would be appreciated

Gains are there, otherwise 5090 wouldn't be noticeably faster than 4090. Problem is, nvidia celatively cuts down gpu dies way way more than they used to down the stack.
70 class used to have 50-60% of die size/cuda cores of flagship. Now it's down to 30% which used to be 50 class.
They will keep fucking around unless there is actual competition, but for most part AMD tries to get as much money out of it as well.
Whether to buy or not always comes down to your personal situation. Situation isn't great but at least there is supply if you want to buy. Current gen consoles are increasing in price, next gen most likely will be delayed. 50xx Super might not happen and nvidia is brining back 3060. Therefore you might end up waiting year to just see 6060 performance.
Do you need or really want new gpu to play something? If you can afford it without debts and it will improve your life, I'd just do it. Preferably check your local prices for last few months and try to predict whether or not there will be some possible promo in next X weeks that would be worth taking advantage of.
Last I checked (long ago) 5060 Ti 16gb had awful price (really close to 5070) and people recommended 9060XT 16 gb over it. In case you consider 8gb gpu, I'd look for something weaker.

Sadly, if it had what is called a head crash then there's nothing you can do. Disk heads are only parked while power is off or if it's a mechanical drive in a laptop, those have accelerometers to park the heads if they sense acceleration.

Is it full of the kind of thing that you can take to a guy to have them remount the platter and try to recover? Because that might be all they can do.

How would you solve this?
a) Change the allocation size = meaning you have to wipe everything clean and start from scratch.

bros, I take the CISM exam tomorrow. I'm going through the QAE, reading the explanations for the questions I get wrong. For most of them my problem is I'm thinking with a technical mindset rather than managerial, or I simply don't know the information. THIS ONE THOUGH... am I misunderstanding the question or is this just insane? The way I'm interpreting their explanation, they're saying it's harder to prioritize misvalued assets than it is to prioritize assets you don't know exist. Obviously that's retarded, but so is this whole cert. So I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding this or if it's just one of those
>Do you want to be correct or do you want to be certified?
things.

Also I thought I had this scheduled for Wednesday, only realized yesterday that it's actually scheduled for tomorrow, whoops.

Let me start this question out by saying that I am autistic.

My favorite IRC server's bouncer goes down more often than a drunk hooker on an ice rink. So it went down several months ago, came back up the same day, I didn't get a warning that I needed to re-identify and it resulted in my nick being dropped.

I've had that nick through all of high school, all of college, all of my working career, I've dodged responsibility to make sure that nick was never dropped. It has sentimental value. Now, nobody ever stole it because nobody uses IRC. But the registration date is now 2026 instead of 2008. Would changing the registration date back to the original year something that services could help with? Or is this something I should just get over?

This happened back in February, and I felt like I would stop thinking about it in a couple months. It's now May and I'm still thinking about it.
>>
>>108903741
>and a worse volumesize / usable volume size ratio, though.
How come? Isn't that the exact thing I have now? A bad ratio of size to usable size?
>>
>>108904060
It was. A friend told me that he got sick of the bouncer going down every other day and just got his own on his own VPS
It pisses me off but I suppose I really shouldn't care. It's not like IRC is getting more popular and people are going to start caring about registration dates. Most of my old friends have quit and their nicks aren't registered at all.

And then I type this out and realize it sounds like fox_and_the_grapes.jpg

What's the average amount of hours you're supposed to spend studying in college for Computer Science to at least pass and get your degree? I will start in September as a 24 year old male college for CS. I try to spend at least 4 hours on average a day including reading but I feel like I'm learning very little in just 4 hours. Is this normal in programming? I don't see how I can complete a CS degree if it takes more than 4 hours a day in studying especially since I'm forced to hold a part time job. Life is truly cruel if you're not born with an IQ of at least 140.
>>
>>108904178
There isn't really an average amount of hours, each person absorbs knowledge and key information at different rates. It also depends on how interested you are in the material. If you're VERY interested and find yourself immersed in it, even in your off-time, you'll feel like you barely study at all but pass every test.
>>
>>108904178
>>108904233
Also burnout is another thing. Burnout is the thing that destroys most people in college, where they feel they HAVE to devote a certain amount of time to a class or they HAVE to take a certain number of credit hours every semester. Eventually your brain just gives up and stops putting in effort. You'll show up to study, but not study. You'll show up to class, but not listen. Forcing yourself won't work, or will only work for short periods of time.

Burnout or having burnout very quickly is also a sign that you really, really don't enjoy what you are doing and are just going through the motions because you're expected to be there.

does Google's AI mode keep a record of everything your browser profile says?

will it tell the authorities if I ask it something like
>I found pornographic cartoon images of what looks like little girls on my grandson's "lap top"... he says she's a 9000 year old vampire or some crap like that... I gave him a good spankin but isn't this illegal? he's almost 30 and he ain't never had a girlfriend, I reckon

I already asked it if it has the duty to report me to the FBI if I were to ask what's the best way to kill the US president
>>
>>108904587
all that shit is readable by engineers there and yes, if they decide to they can escalate it to the authorities.
everything you put into an AI model can be read by somebody. your only defense is just how much is being put in there, but it's obviously indexed and searchable.

>they're saying it's harder to prioritize misvalued assets
Not at all. To quote A's answer
>inaccurate valuation of known assets has a greater NEGATIVE IMPACT on prioritization than the possibility of certain high-value assets not being accounted
They are saying D (inaccurate info) has the biggest consequences. Not that it's harder to prioritize.

The way I see it, A, B, and C are basically like having no information. The negative impact is lower because common sense dictates that you seek out correct information before acting. Or at worst, you are unaware of any risks and do nothing.

D however, can often be worse than doing nothing. If someone you trust gives you bad info, it makes you drop your guard. You will start acting on it and it will likely jeopardize future actions like a domino-effect. You can cause more problems and still have to fix older problems.

I will say the way they wrote the answers is a head-fuck. They throw around the word "prioritization" so much it almost loses meaning and turns it into word salad. And the way everything is phrased is misleading. Take B's justification for instance:
>Evaluating the threat environment is the MOST CHALLENGING aspect of risk assessment
At first it sounds like B should have been the correct answer, but if you read closely it's not exactly what the question was about. They are really asking what the biggest threat is, not what step in risk assessment is hardest.

Your interpretation is also valid. The question does not tell you to assume if you are aware of the issues or not. In this case it happens you are supposed to be ignorant.

The question sucks.

is it fair to say that async/await and goroutines are the main contenders for the future of concurrency? should you be familiar with both? could something like the new java virtual threads be seen as another contender, where you just pretend to have multi threading on one thread and dont have any explicit concurrency abstraction?

i feel like if this were the case, go vs rust would be a bigger debate. maybe concurrency is just not common in low level applications so it's not a huge topic?

I've recently moved from Windows to Linux and beyond a couple of bugs, I'm having a pretty okay time.

One thing I do miss is Photoshop. GIMP makes me want to stab my balls with a fork, and Krita just doesn't cut it. I've seen a couple scripts on Github that download PS for you, but I can't make them work - Wine always throws a shitfit and decides not to launch the program. Is there a tard-friendly way to get PS running on Linux? I don't care if it's not the latest version.

as I understand you can program each outlet individually: turn on at this time, turn off at that time... you can also create your own master/slave rules, so for example if your PC disconnects and outlet 1 is no longer pulling power, disconnect outlets 2 and 4, but leave the rest on... at least that's what I'd need anyway. I hear some of the implementations are shit, hence why I'm asking in here in case somebody has 1st hand experience

It's a combination of codecs, resolution and bit rates. Lower resolutions are going to take lower bit rates to get the same quality. Different codecs also require different bit rates. Often times using variable bit rates and variable frame rates can also reduce file sizes.

How far does the encryption speed (in Veracrypt) fall for SSDs? My estimate started at 5 hours, now it's up to 14 hours and the speed is still slowly dropping. Was like 40+MiB/s 30-40 minutes ago, now it's 35.0MiB/s.

Should i just turn down the output resolution to a point where it reduces file sizes without making the video appear too blurry or of low quality? Seems like that's having the most effect compared to decreasing fps or the video bitrate. But files are still larger than before despite similar quality. Maybe that's expected on newer pcs with more advanced graphic cards and specs in general?

She's just ONE YEAR OLD , the SSD I mean...
thank you for clarifying
>>
>>108910116

If I use Quick formatting now, what happens to the random noise? I definitely did a Full formatting a year ago when the SSD was still fresh and clean.

Will the "dummy thicc" data that I am supposed to put in the Outer Volume to fool the cops
a) overwrite the new generated noise
b) overwrite the old generated noise
c) overwrite the old data that was in the secret volume, which is filled with huge slack
d) random combination of the above

Is the random noise from my first run a year ago even there or not? Depending on what quesiton I google I get either yes or no.

Is this broken?
>>
>>108910250
filling an ssd with random data doesn't even make sense, that's for hdd's.
unlike hdd's, ssd's have a separate state for erased blocks. as soon as you want to write new data to that drive, the blocks need to be erased first, removing the random data.
if you want to fully erase an ssd you issue a secure erase command to it, which is usually quite quick, it also improves performance because A) it doesn't need to erase the blocks before use as they're already erased and B) modern ssd's use available erased space for pseudo-slc cache (one reason why your random writing is so slow is possibly due to the lack of available space for this)

basically all you're doing is wasting write cycles on something that not only won't help you, but has a few downsides
>>
>>108910250
if you have a decent motherboard you can go into the bios and do a secure erase. all ssds support the feature. it instantly zaps all your ssds cells to 0's.
>>
>>108906034
But rust can also do coroutines, it's just that it's stackless instead of stackfull. Coroutines are used on embedded devices too

How is my friend seeing my deleted discord messages? From my understanding you can see the the last few cached messages on mobile push notification or have a 3rd party app to log it. The second can be cleared because he's offline at times during work and does not leave his computer running at all times. For the first, he should not be able to see the original messages, right? but he was able to infer what was the subject of the original conversation. He has done this in the past as well.
>>
>>108910630
Is there a bot that logs messages on your server?
>>
potentially very stupid question but anyone else wonder why we haven't had an improvement to the bittorrent protocol to make it more private/secure?
also why we don't get more piracy sites running from 3rd world countries where they can't get taken down?
>>
>>108910975
This is just in private dms. There is no bot or anything. My intuition tells me this is something related to notifications but I'm not sure.
>>
>>108910590
But at least it improves my ~plausible deniability~ in the sense that I really did fuck up my SSD by putting random noise there for no reason, and then giving up because it took too long

I've never bought a laptop before so I don't really know what to look out for, the best brands and best time to buy one. I need something to last me for a while, very reliable, decent battery, good warranty/support and good value. RAM and SSD is not an issue as I already have pretty good ones from my previous mini pc setup I can transfer to. Don't know the difference between intel and AMD but I've always had AMD and never had a problem. I generally want to avoird OLED because of burn in problems. Mostly doing modelling and animation on blender and UE5. I'd like something with a 12gb 5070ti or 5080 gpu like these:

Any other suggestions/brands? Should I wait some more for bigger discounts?
