I think I'm finally going to switch to an iPhone after using Android for 14 years.
Which iPhone line do you recommend to me? I'm only considering the latest generation, and the only things I really care about are: reasonably good battery life, reasonably good camera quality so that I'm not ashamed to publish the photos online at least, enough performance not to lag, good software support policy (in the sense that I want to get updates for a reasonable amount of time). I don't care about having the best possible performance. Regarding the size, I don't really have any preference, but my current phone is 6.7" and I'm used to it. Regarding the budget, I don't have an upper bound at this moment, but I don't want to overspend either.
Also, how much storage do you recommend? How do I learn to use it? Any tips you have for me?

wait for big update in september, crrent gen is meh

if you cant wait
>air
bad overall, avoid
>17
best for most people
>17 pro
not worth the difference compared to base 17
>17 pro
best and most expensive. still not worth over base 17, but if you want bigger diplay then you dont really have choice

all of them will get 7, 8 years of updates and they will actually be usable bc apple chips are goat

>Regarding the size, I don't really have any preference, but my current phone is 6.7" and I'm used to it.
i dont recommend going down to 6.3 iunless you hate your current phone size, max is the only option
>Also, how much storage do you recommend?
depends if you want to deal with clouds at all, i like to have everything localy and i wouldnt go with 256 in current year, 512gb is optimal. if you change phone every year or two and use clouds, then it doesnt matter
Any tips you have for me?
there is a lot of software retardation, just accept it and dont try to fight it. after 2 weeks youll get used to it, if yozu dont, at least iphones hold resale value (until bug update in September)

I'm also a long term Android user since 2009 and thinking about switching iOS. Android is changing for the worse.

iPhone photos turn out really shit. You can’t turn off the insane auto hdr so everything just ends up looking brighter than it is in real life and just looks so processed. Even shooting in RAW you cant get rid of the auto HDR. You have to get a different camera app from the app store to be able to do that but they still end up looking shit.

That’s happened to me a few times but it’ll usually go away if I close safari or mess around with my tabs a bit. Mine also won’t load webms on 4chan anymore and it’s annoying the shit out of me. I have to open them in another tab to see them. It started randomly a few weeks ago and I haven’t been able to find a fix since.
>>
>>108892297
everything is on one page on the photos app. but there is a tab where they're separated into screenshots, app specific download folders etc.
directory-wise, apple creates thousands of folders for thousands of images and managing them is a pain in the ass so that you pay for icloud.
>>

17e is the phone you buy for your parents or grandparents who are still using 6+ year old iphone and are only looking for replacement because battery is shot, display is cracked etc
as a tech enthusiast i could never go back to a smartphone with a 60hz display, let alone one so expensive for what it is like 17e
>>
>>108890710
i saw that they're gonna reduce the size of the dynamic island by 33%. are there any other noteworthy changes with the iphone 18?
>>
>>108896328
I can't think of any reason to get the base 17 instead of the 17e other than the 60hz display.

wondering if you have the same opinion on the built in faceboook that can only be disabled, and no, adb shell pm uninstall -k is not removing it.

what do you prefer? a gay customizable jpeg that wont stick past the next update, or half a dozen chinese apps you can't get rid of?

Not a problem on my Pixel, you homo.

I recently switched to an iPhone. Forgive my Reddit spacing but I'm not green text formatting.

Things I like:
Cohesion.
No app tracking between websites and apps.
Control Center and Notifications UI and UX is much more stable.
Battery Life is far more solid and stable.
iPhone camera shits all over my Moto G 2025, but about parity with my friend's Pixel 6.

Things I don't like:
One way back gesture feels worse than Android's edge agnostic back gesture.
Touch Keyboard control i.e. moving the cursor in input boxes is much worse and floaty than Android, GBoard has less features in iOS.
Browser apps are all just different UI mocks of Safari. Luckily Safari on iOS has extensions now including UBO Lite. On iOS, Brave actually has a use case in that it has night mode.
You can't pin bookmarks to home screen in iOS, only Safari can do that, so to have bookmarks on the home screen open in other browsers you have to change your default browser but then still use Safari to add the bookmarks to the home screen.
No fun homebrew scene like found in FDroid and Github, etc. Replaced with paid apps that are used to give functionality not offered elsewhere.
The way things animate can make me nauseous, and the reduced motion options are not good enough.

I'm posting this from my cracked screen moto g 2025 and not my iPhone btw, bc typing sucks more in iOS.
iPhone will temporarily just pause and hang when opening apps or when clicking links in browser. Almost as if it is scheduling opening the link after it is done doing something in the background, but it is noticeable.
Bluetooth audio will do a weird pop / stutter every 5 minutes or so, it is noticeable.

there is not a single reason to use a device with worse radio, known a series battery issues that hgaven't been fixed for a decade, and a pisspoor cpu. all for what? pixel 10+ won't be supported anymore either btw. off to motorola you go

This is why I'm going to buy an iPhone.

Just look at this shit.
>>
My Android phone is discharging 20% each night and it has been doing that since I've ever bought it and I have no idea why. My previous phone, from the exact same brand, from the exact same product line, used to hold the battery far better.
>>
Anons, Pro or Pro Max? Some say that Pro is more ergonomic due to a smaller size.

Pro for sure, im waiting for the 18 series to get rid of my 17pm this shit is too big and heavy.

If you insist on using an iPhone, use Safari with uBlock Origin Lite enabled.

I have actually owned the 17 and then the 17 Pro because of a deal that I took when switching carriers.
I will say the 17 felt much better to hold and that the color options were much better. Between the two I think it is the better looking phone.
The Pro is kind of awkward to hold because it is top heavy from the camera system that is up top. It did have a slightly longer battery life for me, but I never really noticed the performance difference from day to day use. It's also an ugly phone imo. That being said, the telephoto camera is kind of nice to use, although I have only used it exactly twice for taking photos of wildlife at 40x. There's some serious sacrifice to photo quality at that zoom but it's better than not having a telephoto + digital zoom at all.
I really like the Air and it's probably the phone I would have got if I didn't spend so much time away from a wall charger.
>>
I switched from an S24 Ultra to an iPhone 17 pro and I HATE it
>can't dismiss alarms
>can't lock screen in landscape mode
>I live in the EU, sideloading is a LIE
>every single browser you install is actually Safari
>no webm support
>camera virtually the same as on S24 Ultra, I don't take photos of moving children, only dead ones, so I don't give a fuck about the common S24 complaints
>stability just like on Android, no improvements there
>Apple services are worse than Google's and Google apps like Maps are also worse, buggy, show you the wrong location etc.
>my S24 Ultra was always in pristine condition without ever using a case, my iPhone is bent all over the fucking frame

Consider this choice carefully, I definitely regret switching to an iPhone and for my next phone I'll get the Samsung flagship or something. There's some very basic functionality missing from the iPhones

If nothing else, Apple is great about this. I'm still using an Iphone 7 Plus and it's still getting security updates despite being like 10 years old lol.
>>
>>108897972
so what do you do?
>>
Yep, iOS/iphone has just been getting better and better these days while android is falling off.

For me some major things was airtags (android still has no workable alternative), the design (yes liquid glass, it reminds me of Aero, I hope everyone does something similar), nice orange color. Android customization and sideloading is dying while IOS got customization and widgets.

Never thought I'd be here.

iphone users to geek out over specs like some kinda pc nerds
just go to the apple store to play with them and buy the one that is a size you like
storage is irrelevant when you just pay for the apple cloud that automatically backs everything up anyway and lets you use the cloud to access your content 247 that integrates seemlessly with your photos
