been looking at cases like these lately for future pcs, it's a tremendous waste to use the rear fan as exhaust instead of intake, I've draw how the air flow should be instead
the cases need to be a made a little bit bigger and with mesh side panels instead of glass so I can use them horizontally, it would be perfect
the green arrow is where a lot of cases put a sata/hdd slot which I personally use so I wouldn't put a fan there, the purple fan needs to be printed with a 3d printer or ducted taped or whatever but it needs to be there to push the very hot air from cpu and gpu outside

ima be real with you. zero. 3gb a second reads and writes is MORE than enough for games, os, even professional stuff. game loading is maybe, 3 second faster on the gen 5 over the gen 3. os boot times, maybe shave off a second. the only time its "noticeable" is when you start moving extremely large files. an 80gb file will take about 6 seconds to copy + paste in another location. while a gen 3 would take about 27 seconds. gen 4 is about 11 seconds. while a sata ssd would take about 2 minutes and 40 seconds. so even a gen 3 is still massively faster than a ssd.
if you have a gen 3 nvme, i wouldn't worry about it at all. only upgrade when you need to because at the moment, storage prices are insane.

Just got this together and running. Really liking how it turned out. The 4080 Super barely fits. I might have to switch to a SFX PSU to get more room in the top since I want to run a optical drive and a ssd/hdd hot swap dock and with a full length PSU the spacing it way to right, a SFX PSU would also give the GPU a little more space for the fans.

That and i'm waiting for find some sort of deal on storage. Want to put in a 1tb gen 4 NVME for the boot drive and at least a 2tb drive for games.

nobody really talks about those games anymore, and one of the reasons to play games is so you can socialize and talk about new games and get some social status on the way.

all these old games are obsolete. games aren't like books that stand the test of time for centuries or even millenia. with games, you either "had to be there" or it's pointless. Think of playing FFVII in 1998 or GTA III in 2002: you played after everyone else and nobody talks about it anymore and thus there's really no point of playing that game.

>asrock b450m/ac mobo

>750w bronze psu
At first it was stuck in a boot loop (I'm assuming trying to post), but after reseating ram it stopped power cycling but now gets stuck on the motherboard logo screen indefinitely. Since it reached the mobo logo I assume that means it was able to POST so my ram and cpu should be ok.
AI seems to think the issue is the laptop ssd with the new hardware. Its recommending using a usb to reinstall an OS (I was planning on doing this anyway with ventoy and Cachyos). My problem is I can't even get into the bios via mashing F2 or Del to set that as the boot drive.
Any ideas on how to get into the bios? I could try removing the ssd but even if I could boot into the live usb I wouldn't have anything to install it on.

You'll probably want a cheaper qdoled 1440p 240hz monitor like the alienware AW2726DM to not get cucked by pricing and needing to upgrade your whole pc to make full use of the monitor. though with your 3900x you might have to cap it to 160hz or so to prevent stuttering

>>
>>108893776
Am5 is only really able to run 4 sticks on paper. DDR5 isn't friendly with mixing ram sticks either even if they say they are compatible. Unless you plan on populating all four slots with the absolute highest amount of memory available (and going through the hassle of actually getting it to function on am5) then just stock to two sticks. The boards built with only two slots know 4 sticks of DDR5 is a gimmick and just let the (shitty) am5 memory controller do it's thing.

DDR6 will suck even more balls than DDR5. We need a completely different standard for consumer memory, or motherboards need to start using camm2 memory.

Look what AMD was able to achieve with their max+ 395. That's something that we need in conventional desktops (with dedicated gpu support)
>>
Future of memory is.... Hierarchical. and there will always be latency-size tradeoff.

The best boards have two slots hung over the cpu and it's like that for a reason. Zero use for 99% of users though.

Heatsinks suck because they impede the CPU cooler too much.

They have that in their newer NEO refresh boards so that'd basically be guaranteed to be included if they release an updated apex

Which is why I went for t-create expert this time (previous PC was 10 years old) I ran OCCT on the t-create expert and it barely reached 50C. Not shilling, just saying. You're basically signing up to a lottery where the motherboard could end up killing your CPU.
X3D CPUs seem more vulnerable but I've read even 9600X can be ripped.

Epoch doesn't have a great chassis btw, consider the Meshify 3 (better chassis and fans).

My last build used an i5-4460 so I've been out of the game for a while and have some questions. I am building an upper mid tier rig primarily to run flight sim games to help out with irl flight training. I intend to primarily run Linux but if it causes me a lot of problems I'll get a second drive and throw windows on it. It will also be a general purpose and gaming rig for my wife and I. I'll probably do some video editing and she'll do some 2d art, although anything can handle 2d stuff these days. I'm in the US and my budget is around $1500, though a little higher is ok if it's worth it.

Anything on my list not marked as "purchased" is still not solidified. I explain a few of the odd choices below. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7VfxsK

Are contact frames still needed on 14th gen Intel chips?

Newegg sent a free Cooler Master Elite 240 (not 240L) water cooler with fans when I bought my CPU. I wasn't planning to water cool so I haven't researched it. Is this thing any good?

Any budget 1Tb NVME SSD recommendations that are good for boot drives, ideally PCIe 4.0?

Any mobo recommendations? Looking for DDR4, 1700 socket, decent cooling for the VRMs, 2 or 3 M.2 slots, and a true PCIe 4.0 X4 slot would be nice for adding other peripherals down the road. Idk what I'll use it for but I keep my PCs for a very long time and I'm more likely to need a high speed peripheral than a ton of PCIe X1 cards, though a few X1s are good to have. I am not planning to overclock my 14700K.

I'm getting a used 6800 XT because I've been told that it's overkill VRAM will help a lot in flight sims. Otherwise I'd just get the 3080 like everyone tells me. Do I have this right or not?

Holy shit the captchas got EVEN WORSE. None of this would be necessary if the fed would just arrest the pedophile that keeps spamming the boards.

yes get a contact frame. its an easy 5-8C reduction in cpu hotspot temperatures
Last I checked, the CM AIOs aren't built well and has a higher rate of pump failure. I'd sell that for scrap and get a real cooler from Arctic (aio) or Noctua/Thermalright (air)
IMO check out the nm790 1tb if you want a solid budget drive
for ddr4 boards, i'd recommend getting an msi z690-a pro if they still make those. those were pretty great back in the day and are one of the few boards to have official support for the uefi replacement Coreboot

CPUs will get more expensive for sure. Data centers need more CPUs to run agentic AIs.
AMD & Intel will prioritize making more data center CPUs, the new silicon wafers will cost more as well.
TSMC's 2nm silicon wafers are estimated to cost around $30,000 vs. $16,000 for 5nm.

>>108896250
>why are 9070xts suddenly so cheap?
Customer demographic issue.
People who are fine with buying Radeon cards are probably more price-sensitive when building a new PC.
There's no point buying a discounted RX 9000 card when inflated SSD & DRAM prices adds $400~500 to the final build cost.

>What about people who just want to upgrade their GPU?
For what? new games take ages to release, and frugal RX 6000 card owners are probably willing to ride this out.

for me it was always a psu issue when it came to crashes and driver timeouts. weak psus that couldn't cope. i bought like four 7900gre from a reseller that he said were all defective because they had driver timeouts all the time and black screen crashes. they all worked just fine in my system and i used each one for a month or so with a 750w psu.

profile_peak locks all clocks to base clock
so they are downclocking the card to make the game stable
helldivers 2 had lots of issues on RDNA3
>>108898288
lol so you're saying they shipped out early cards with a buggy VBIOS to get better review scores
yeah that is something AMD would do
>>
>>108898319
It doesn't affect all cards but yeah some have the wrong clocks. It should be RMA'd or the support website of whoever you bought it from give you the correct VBIOS update.

current setup:

intel i7-7700k
msi z270 sli atx
tforce 32gb ddr4 3600
asrock radeon 6650xt 8 gb

mc bundle considering:

amd 5800xt
asus b550 prime atx
gskill 16gb ddr4 3200

also considering asrock radeon 9060xt 16gb, not in bundle.

i want to use the ram from the i7 system for a combined total of 48gb. will the two ram kits play nice in the asus b550 board?

worth it for ~$750 ?

IDK why the PC market has degenerated to shell games with pricing based on gate keeping rather than performance.

anon this is fundamental economic theory. If there's a lot of demand, without a commensurate increase in supply, prices will go up.

Basically, it's just a bad time to buy a computer.

See, what was happening is that the race of Koreans (south korea) began twisting the screws on the whole computer market of the whole world, after previously undercutting the whole world to destroy their competitiveness. This is also the way the race of the chinese stole industry. It's the Walmart way too, cheap shit drives the local mom & pop out of biz, then the prices ramped back up and the whole bitch was screwed.

Corporations, just like races, are able to act collectively in a way that destroys life, and as such are to be considered an evil worthy of total hatred. Any nation, or group, which upholds the schemers against humanity and human causes is a cancer.

This has basically been everyone but China at this point.
Even the Taiwanese who was really good as mass manufacturing and cost reduction did so until there was a few left and now you have basically 3 motherboard vendors and a handful more GPU vendors.
Prices has never been higher
>>

>>
Is there a reviewer who measures PS3 emulation performance?
>>
>>108898801
The solution was always simple. You have to protect domestic production through import controls, including tariffs, which can simply be adjusted until the price accords with what's workable with domestic production, or just a total ban, either a temporary one, or, as has been the case, a ban that is only lifted temporarily, during problems with domestic production.
>>
>>108898810
>You have to protect domestic production through import controls, including tariffs,
Bruh, this just raises pricing even more than right now.

exactly.

China has done nothing but make my hobbies cheaper over the years in comparison to western and Taiwanese companies.
>>
>>108898810
When it comes to component manufacturing like mobos and GPUs. There is dwindling domestic production. Nor any interest in preserving domestic production.
It's just wherever is cheaper at the time.
>>
>>108898812
Lots to say here. democracy is evil, communism is evil, capitalism is evil. Until we understand this, it's impossible to do anything wise.

no because emulation builds and vulkan gpu drivers are changing pretty much weekly. their video from a year ago would be super outdated.

the devs cpu tier list is still accurate though.

B-tier CPUs and better run the game better than a real PS3. Below runs it on par or worse.

>>
>>108900695
I have an xfx 6950xt. I like it, My bet is the 6800 is similar. you should check by finding videos about it.

mine has a switch to change bios versions (obviously not while powered up).

the fan curve is too un-aggressive. I have the fan run all the time, and ramp up a lot faster. the ramping is too slow for ai but probably not too slow for any games, so it's ok to not change, I guess. I would change it though.

It has a little light that tells you if it's not getting enough power because you didn't seat the power connector right, I like that.

Overall, I think I'm basically an xfx customer now.
