Why does /g/ hate rust on Linux? Is it justified or is it just "new thing bad, old thing good"?
>>108901855you should stop caring about what the internet gantry thinks. they and their "thoughts" are both irrelevant.
>>108901855Linux aside, I think it's a pretty terrible language to read, write and think about. I feel that way about most functional languages but Rust is especially bad. Simple functional languages are ok, like OCaml and Scheme. But bloatmaxxed C++ replacements like Rust are an abomination.Also, it's being crammed down the throats of systems programmers. One of things I liked about systems programming was that I felt like I was protected from the incredibly poor design of out-of-control web software style development. Rust shatters that illusion and I resent it.I remember thinking I didn't need to retire because I could just go on writing C forever. Now I see the industry is going full speed ahead towards everything being vibe-coded Rust slop.It's over.
>>108901855It's literally just trannies. If there weren't any trannies involved, /g/ wouldn't care or would maybe be slightly positive about it. Which is retarded, but hey, this is /g/.
>>108901921This. Rust is an alright language but the development and standards people are the embodiment of the troon infestation of FOSS.
>>108901956how can those two things be true at the same time?
>>108901855the syntax is the worst thing I've ever seen in my fucking life
Rust is a poster child of suffering for no reason. Almost no software needs this tinkering with borrow checker and would do just fine with a GV and when not - manual memory management would be just fine. I would understand it if suffering was because the code is extra-readable and elegant in the end, but it's the opposite of that, usually.
>>108901981I mostly mean conceptually especially with how memory safe it's designed to be. There are some absolute shithouse design choices tbf. Error handling is one of them. I think Rust came out just before the complete trannyfication of software development took hold of it.
If you wanted sane people to use rust then you should simply hang the tranny crab mascot, axe the coc, and let devs who believe men cannot become women submit contributions.
>>108901855.unwrap()
>>108901855another rust tranny kek you can't make this shit up.
>>108901855As a C programmer I simply free memory after I am done with it and I do not use it again. Rust is what you get when a nanny state loving, mask wearing, super diverse group of folks decides they need to protect programmers without their level of autism.
>>108903014Rust developers usually have to think about genders so they don't have time to think about memory.
