What's the best e-reader for reading books? I'd use it primarily for reading books and/or studying. I know many use a proprietary system, making it difficult to upload PDFs and e-books... Do you have any recommendations?
>>108903166kobo with koreader for wireless calibre library
>>108903202which model? New or used?
>>108903257NTA but unless you specifically want a large screen, the Clara BW should be fine. Here you can find it around €120-150. It will easily last you a couple of decades if you take care of it, so no point in going second hand imo.
>I know many use a proprietary system, making it difficult to upload PDFs and e-booksOnly Kindle is that locked down and even they have pdf support. You get the most versatility with Android based devices like Supernote or Boox where you can install various apps to suit your needs.Look into the 10" and 13" Boox devices Note Max, Note Air 5C, Go 10.3 Gen 2 and Tab XC depending on whether you want colors and how much you can afford. If you need something more entry level, go for a Kobo Clara BW. pdf are going to be limited but it will be more portable. If you're destitute you look into used Kindles, preferably with a firmware that can be jailbroken so you can install Koreader and expand the functionality.

Unironically the PSVita
Xteink with custom firmware. It is small and you need a light to read in the dark but it fits in your pocket. It is perfect for me.
>>108903166Pocketbooks are real damn sweet if you're a Yurofag that can get them
>>108903202>calibreJeetware.
>>108905324I read articles but books? it’s kinda too small for that
>>108905343seconded, I have a basic 4 model and it's everything I ever needed, it can reflow most PDF's, too, and it can't connect to the internet so I can read pirated stuff to my heart's content.p.s. no built in light means I won't stay up till 3AM reading
>>108903166kobo or pocketbook, 6 inch model is more portable, 7inch have more space. Dont go for color models. Black and white have much better contrast and screen quality.I have pocketbook era 700, really nice, no account bullshit, not even using wifi, last for ages, its visible by PCs or even Macbooks as external storage so u can easly copy paste books. If u want something for pdf, comics or school books i think u need to go for much bigger screen, 10-13inch. And at this point i think normal android, ipad tablets without eink screens are better for that.
>>108908309>And at this point i think normal android, ipad tablets without eink screens are better for that. Why? They don't offer the benefits eink offers and don't bring anything useful to the table for pdf. The largest ones aren't even cheaper.
I have a Boox Palma that serves as my primary e-reader
>>108908314with larger sizes color einks makes more sense than with smaller 6-7inch sizes. If u think they makes more sense than normal tablets at that 10-13inch range go for it, in my case i would choose just normal tablet around that size, its just more flexible so i can use it for more stuff. But i like having my comics and stuff like manuals, artbooks or textbooks with lots of pictures, schematics ect on paper. I learn better having something physical in my hand, i value art more if its printed on paper, i like my comics stored on bookshelf ect. If u think that u will use big color eink tablet to its full potential you should really consider buying it.
>>108908144I have a Verse, the light is very nice and delicate, and the Internet connection doesn't do any fuckery with my ability to read pirated shit and is optional. After all, when you plug that shit in via USB it opens up like a regular storage device, drag and drop your files and you can read them just like that. Pocketbook doesn't have a need to block piracy like Amazon does. I also highly recommend installing KOReader, they have a Pocketbook port and it's a simple case of drag-and-drop for it to show up. It's actually more performant than the built-in reader for stuff like highlighting text.
>>108908922I checked it out, and it has a touchscreen... ew, not for me.
>>108908986I understand hating touchscreen only models but what is the problem of something having buttons and a touchscreen?
