Defend this
Only mentally ill people care.
>>108907670Extrem flat desing will be nostalgic soon. We will transition to more popping icons again, adding blur/shadows/accents is the first step.
>>108907670this is way more colorful and has way more personalityeven if it's still flat and soulless, i'll take it over solid color corporate standard shit
The Gmail thing looks terrible. The left side looks almost entirely red, but not quite. It looks unbalanced. The Drive thing is meh. Definitely a downgrade but it doesn't jump out of the screen and poke me in the eye.
>>108907670Looks better
>>108907670They do this kind of shit so they can pretend like they're working so Google can keep the judeo-hapa caste happy.
>>108907670someone got 300k USD for that change
>>108907670i like the mail one, but the drive one disgusts me
>>108907683fpbp
>>108907670I don't care. And neither should you.
>>108907670>pay some graphics designer millions>works hard, researches the market, designs good iconic logos and design language for your products/ui>work done after 2 months>hes still employed at the company and got a raise>now what?>starts fucking around, inventing reasons to change things.same reason having too much HR is a problem when people dont have work they start inventing fake work that only gets in the way of real work. there's no reason why they cant just use the 2004 gmail icon today
>>108907670
>>1089077375pbp but also, colorwise, zoomers get really into gradients and more muted neon shades.esp. salmon, teal, purple, peach, cyan
>>108908324gradients show up well on OLED phone screens whereas these original icons were made for LCD.
>>108907722I think the red is supposed to represent menses from a transwoman.
>debating which intentional design choice will make the product more pleasing to the eyes so you can forget about the product's actual qualityyou are all goycattle holy shit
>>108907670>>>/gd/ you fat faggot stop spamming this niggery fourth fucking time this place has been shitted up with le new googel icons KILL YOURSELF
Both look terrible. This is what we should go back to
i didn't like a new drive, but it's grown on me.overall an improvement.the fuschia in thte top left corner of gmail can look a bit too red unless you have a well calibrated screen - they'll probably tweak it a little i think
>>108907670i hated the "old" so much that the new is a sidegrade at worst
>>108907670Both look like shit.Globohomo is incapable to create anything with soul.
>>108907670Imagine defending the "old" design. They are both equally garbage. Design has been at rock bottom for years at this point.
>>108908764Even those older designs are garbage. Its been a continual downward slope for many years.
Well I don't have nostalgia for flat shit myself, it was never good, it didn't suddenly turn good because there's some other garbage
>>108907670all look like shit>>108907737looks like shit>>108908312look like shit>>108908764all look like shit
>>108907670I'm curious what would be the next slopped design. Like how can you do worse?
>>108907696it looks like the worst of both world
>>108907670Honestly this is the only time in the past 10 years when an icon change makes them actually look better
Not sure comparing 2 turds together is productive but the new one looks slightly better
>>108907722>The left side looks almost entirely red, but not quite. It looks unbalanced.I agree it looks clumsy and weird, but making red the dominant color was intentional. The new icons are focused on differentiation and red was formerly Gmail's principal color.
>>108908764The original icons were changed because they look like they're from 30 different companies. You want a Google app to have Google branding. The new icons correct the sameness that made the previous generation difficult to read.
>>108907670what's even the drive logo supposed to be? a triangle?
>>108907696>way more colorful>it literally removes a primary colorlmao
>>108911547colorblind self report
>>108911547Uhh anon... take a color blindness test.
>>108909407Precisely. When design began with pure art education it was better. Somehow, drawing croquis of fat nude women until you dash one off in your sleep, resulted in better abstract logos.
>>108911914NTA- but they're correct. The Drive icon removes red.
This is what happens when you hire Indians.
>>108907670I literally can't. Pic related icon was perfection.
>>108907670ey man those logo artists gotta eat too
>>108907670I like the Drive one.
>>108911618>>108911914>>108912098I'm not sure who is trolling who at this point
>>108907670>GRADIENTS2000's DESIGN ALL OVER AGAIN
>actually gradients are good btwI hate graphic designers.
>>108907690>Extrem flat desing will be nostalgic soonIt was when it first started but zoomers are too young to remember DOS programs and Windows 2.0 and grew up on skeuomorphism
>>108907670they should have swapped the red and blue for gmail. otherwise it looks fine.
>>108910579ehhh, i dont care
>>108912942Only an NPC with no subjective experience would consider windows 2.0 and modern flat design to be similar. They are totally different.
probably the biggest sidegrade known to manthe return to having them be at least somewhat recognizable by color is nice, but the drive icon has become completely generic (even more so, somehow) and the gmail icon is made by someone who doesn't seem to know basic color theory
>>108907670google drive icon looks like a fucking trash bin symbolwtf were they thinking
>>108910596>The original icons were changed because they look like they're from 30 different companies. You may not remember it but 20 years ago every google site used a different account, it wasn't until later that they changed it so you were forced to link them all together, from which point on everything worked with 1 central Google Account (originally a Google Plus social account). So yeah, they were absolutely all different products. Hell some of them they didn't even make, just bought.
>>108910596>The original icons were changed because they look like they're from 30 different companiesdisagree, the Material era homogenized the style pretty well already. by making them all look the same, you make your ecosystem seem smaller than it actually is by relegating everything to "that part of google"
>>108907670I don't think I care enough about Google to bitch about this
What the fuck is the Drive icon even supposed to represent?Gmail is now just a weird M when it was never meant to be that, it was an envelope.Google is fucking retarded.
>>108913317updated version
>>108907670I honestly don't understand why they have to change the damn icons every two or three years, the prior ones to the current ones were really good and you could distinguish every app at a glance, the current ones are literally the same icon with different shape, but now adding fucking gradients and making everything a blob just makes so you have to triple check before opening any app besides youtube. How did this pass any UX testing is beyond me.
>>108907670Spongedick halfpants the retarded
>>108907670the new gmail looks better but the old drive looks better than its newer one.
>>108907670It's free.
>>108913120Windows 2.0 was completely flat-shaded and didn't have much in the way of skeuomorphism.
>>108907670Corporate culture has closed itself so much it only produces boring uncreative shit, because it needs to fit so many requirements that it ends up looking about the same as old shit except 'it pops out more'
>>108914175No it isn't, it's proprietary software.
>>108907670Soulless vs soul.
>>108914189This is the same nonsense where anything with transparency is Aero. The only thing that makes sense is that these assertions are coming from NPCs who have no actual subjective experience, and can't really see. They are closer to AI than people. Their vision model passes abstract descriptions of what they are "looking" at to their language model.
>>108907670The new ones are actually easier to differentiate at a glance
>>108907670How did they fuck up their color scheme?blue red orange yellow green => red pink red ora- yellow green blue???????
Boomers actually think this looks better? like wtf are you retarded, the name is in the url bar or on the app.
Why can't they let the end user decide what icon they want to use?
>>108912184think how many people they could employ if they did more then drawing a few straight lines and gradients in illustrator. good design being hard is probably at least part of the reason everything they make is dogshit.
>>108913317>every google site used a different accountOnly YouTube and Blogger and maybe some weird shit like Orkut worked like that.
>>108915351end user is a goy. goys don't get to have options.
>>108907670I like that the main suite is LGBT coloured then the auxillary apps like keep notes and meet are just yellow
Oi
>>108907670Remember when we hated the new "old" designs?Let's not pretend we have nostalgia for the 2020 one
>>108915319This was better than any of todays retardation in logo design.t. zoomzoom
>>108915836I actually like the gradients but they're all the same colour ffs
