This is my reaction too, I don't like the colour but otherwise it's nice. He's just a literal boomer still putting out rounded edges uberminimalistic products like it's 2001 again.

Apple was in talks with a half dozen different legacy automakers over 10-15 years.

None of them worked out.

I think the closest they got was a Hyundai partnership.

Realistically apple just didn't have the stomach to really break into the car market, even after the ~10-15 year development period apple is thought to have spent $10-15B on the project, but to setup a new car company from scratch that can rival existing legacy automakers would take $30-50B+. Apple just wasn't prepared to drop that kind of money and tried to partner with existing automakers, but then apple expected the same 50-100% markup they can get on laptops, phones, and tablets, but the car industry works on like a 5-10% margin, not 50-100% margins.

So yeah, apple was just retarded in their businesses strategy and unwilling/unable to invest the money/time required to actually build a car brand and no existing legacy car brand wanted to give apple a slice of their profits just to partner with Apple.
>>
>>108913472
they got offered Tesla for an apple and change. And much as I have little time for either Co, that particular deal probably would have suited everyone att.
The Gay Beancounter was just too much of a coward to take a leap one way or another.
>>
>>108913489
I mean, at the end of the day it PROBABLY was a smart move, sure they "wasted" $10-15B working on that damn car project, but they would've dumped 5x that or more over a decade of trying to run a real auto maker and even if it DID work, the earning margins would be razer thin.

How does this $600k car have a worse performance than a $60k car from China? Who buys this shit?
>>
>>108913518
>$600k car have a worse performance than a $60k car from China?
well that's normal for ferrari
>>
>>108913518
Because you're not paying for performance.

You're paying for the brand.

Ferrari gatekeeps their higher tier models and people who regularly buy EVERY ferrari model that releases (especially the lower end shit tier ones) will get prioritized for higher tier invite-only ferraris.

When ferrari makes a model with only 50 or 100 cars being made, they don't announce the model and then wait for the first 50-100 people to call up and ask to buy one, they presell every single one to select "known" ferrari collectors before the car even gets announced publicly.

Even just buying ferraris isn't enough to get you into the true upper tier of ferrari collectors, if you want those special cars you need to be involved with ferrari racing, show up to events, talk to people at ferrari at these events, etc, etc.

So yeah, that $600k has very little to do with the actual vehicle you're buying.

I'm not sure this is aimed at 'Ferrari collectors' per se. Its a €550,000 5-door saloon. Altho who - exactly - it is aimed at? Remains anyones guess.
>>
>>108909405

Because this IS an entry level Ferrari (just priced higher than normal).

They generally don't restrict buyers for their entry level models.

It might not be for the bigger collectors, but if you want to get your foot in the ferrari door this is exactly the ferrari they want you to buy.

Yeah it'd be a failure 100x worse than the Vision headset.

A superexpensive doodoo just to showcase the "Apple car vision" for a bunch of millionaires. Too much expense for very low margins. They would never recover the R&D spent.

Despite them selling at high prices, so they can charge the Apple tax, their products are still somewhat accessible to normies as long as they starve for a year.

>>
>>108913537
Which 60k car from China has such performance?
But anyway Ferarri now basically pivoted to being just a luxury car brand, instead of a top performance car brand, because EVs are simpler and it's battery tech that makes the difference. Everyone can build an electric engine. Theirs might be fancier but it's the same physics.

It's a showcase model, they don't expect to sell much.
More like announce to the world: this is it, we're starting to produce EVs and it's gonna be part of our offering from now on.
But the first models are unlikely to sell much.
Maybe the 2nd or 3rd, once they get it right.
They're just testing the waters for now and correcting based on the reactions they get.
So the next model is unlikely to be made by Ive.
>>
>>108913748
Yeah because it's built with cheap chinky labour, it's full of plastic and the interior is probably cheap and very standard.
>>
>>108913748
They could have just taken one of their classic designs and made it EV.
And it would have looked better than this vacant turd
>>
>>108913504
>>108913731
I'm disagreeing with you both here.
Tesla + The Gay Beancounter would have made for a good match for one another, certainly a far better one than the halfwit currently in charge of Tesla. Apple did start their 'car project' for a reason after all - carz is still a consoomer product and, as Ferrari here are demonstrating, markup is what you make it. And Apple are generally pretty good at making that. I'm not o sure they could have bulit a carco from scratch, but Tesla, for next to nothing (att), it was a no brainer imo.
>>
>>108913742
And that was rightfully named the worst mouse ever designed

But it's not all Ive's fault. They were building 'normal' mice and then Jobs would crash their meetings and say: what the fuck is that, why does it look like what the competition does? Make it look like something nobody has, we need to set ourselves apart from them.

Literally make it 'different' just for the sake of being 'apple' thing.

That was back in corona crisis times and Tesla was close to goind under.
That's why Musk was willing to sell it.

So for the bean counter guy, it must have looked like an expensive load of balast that would pull Apple down and make him sink money trying to make it profitable.
Plus the regulatory scrutiny he'd get for having vested interests in two big markets with few players.

Or maybe Apple didn't have that much money on hand to simply buy Tesla.

I guess that once every car in the world has self-driving capability there will be no speed limits imposed on the highway. You can go as fast as you want because it’s the computer doing the driving.
You’re going to be speed limited on other roads tho. If you don’t go on the highway your supercar will be useless. I guess that you can go faster if you have an emergency. There will very likely be a system to report directly to the police if you went faster than allowed, sending all the video footage to them. You might have to tell the car that you have an emergency for it to go faster than allowed.
