Make sure you install Cortile. Xfce with tiling is beautiful.I used to use it with i3 but at that point I'd rather just use i3 with i3bar or polybar.

Systemd has it's quirks but at least it simplifies resource monitoring without flaky scripts. Wayland is just a protocol, feel free to implement your own or use xlibre or whatever. guess it comes down to "does this thing do partial rendering" or other nicheties.
