why is everybody and their mother building a fucking data center now?
>>108913071spying on the goyim is very profitable.
>>108913071because these ass hats have zero ability to imagine any alternative futures
>>108913083Is it really? I beat my meat so hard I fire blanks every night to picrel. How is that valuable to da joos?
>>108913071Yeah, 90% of those are never getting built.
>>108913071There's no way in hell this isn't a massive bubble waiting to pop.
>>108913071you can spot the states from space on this who might actually enforce regulations regards throwing up shit everywhere, like CA. And the ones who obv. don't, like TX and FL.
>>108913143the northeast also has a ton for some reason, despite land and power being very expensive
Worked in Datacenters before, because a lot of companies pulling out of asia to host their data in the USA due to laws, security, power stability, city construction, ISPs, etc. For every datacenter you plan to build you need 2 maybe 3 backup locations if the power company or someone says no. Lots of these "to build" sites are just backup plans as it's easier to submit 3 proposals at one time and default on 2; as appose to submit 1 and play the waiting game and restart if denied. The administration has also leaned in and said let them build so loans are easier. The last part is, that it's a way to secure capital to redo electric infrastructure in a lot of places.
>>108913157Geographic and Climate predictability. It's why sweden has a shit load of datacenters
>nowWhere did you thought facebook, tiktok, Instagram, blogger, google, myspace, 4chan ran anon?
>>108913071In the later part of the Dotcom boom everyone was building out fiber networks. For several years there ended up being tons of dark fiber for cheap. Google bought up a bunch of it IIRC.
>>108913143It's really just a proxy for how difficult it is to build anything in libtard places like California.
Here's a conspiracy theory. What if when the bubble pops the government siezes all the data centers to turn them into crypto mining farms and centralize Bitcoin?
>>108913071Demand is outstripping supply and everybody and their mother is rushing to fill the gap.
Because compute is king. For both internal and external use case. Cloud computing is literal computing this time.
>>108913319Turns out, all the companies/people wanted an AI to help them build out products that has no bottle necks for shortage or cash
>>108913102it just needs a few more zillion parameters brother

>>108914880Probably has something to do with the tornado part
>>108913309nah, the specifications of the data centers are wildly expensive if the plan is to repurpose them for crypto mining
>>108913071please don't use "mother" and "bvilt" in the same sentence
>>108913071>why is everybody and their mother building a fucking data center now?Because they're idiots. What do idiots do? They try to solve a modern problem using 19th century technology.
>>108915358whats the 19th century technology?
>>108913071We can't fucking power this. We just don't have the grid.
>>108914890Yes, we've known about this phenomenon since at least the early 17th century.
>>108913102It will not pop as long as the government is subsidizing it. And the government will continue to subsidize it because they want palantr to work.
>>108915410We can make all the power we would ever need and more. This "we dont have enough power" nonsense is a completely made up problem, that we self impose.
>>108915523Great. We're not doing that.
>>108913071>investors buy stocks>companies get grants and protection from the government>everyone gets convinced to buy more stocks>stock value going up>everyone at the top getting rich as fuck>but everyone knows the bubble will pop and their stocks will lose more than half of their value>use all the money to buy physical locations and hardware>the hardware has to be related to what you are doing, you can't just buy up all gold or something>so they build data centers with a flimsy excuse that it's going to be used for training data or some shit>the real purpose is to sell them off or rent them when the stocks go down>all the people at the top have completely secured their wealth and will make trillions from their data centers>every poor idiot who invested in the stocks will get fucked in the ass, all you did was buy data centers and land for billionairesgg no re
>>108915542what happens when the data center has nothing to run on it because they were overbuilt 10000x?
>>108913431You're free to not use it
>>108915684They'll sell it, sell the parts, sell the land, repurpose the land for something else. Use the data center to just mine bitcoin or something. Use it for their own bots. Sell it to google to be used for random unnecessary AI features. Use it for Palantir to spy on people. They'll find a use. Don't worry about billionaires and their poor overbuilt servers. They'll get more money out of these data centers than they paid for them. It's pure profit.
>>108915698He says while they remove all the other options.
>>108913071AI psychosis by the elite.I mean really. A group of egotistic leaders high off their own smug invent a bunch of AI models and they all just so happen to be highly sycophantic? As if there was ever a coincidence.
>>108915721They even remove options within using AI, with Siri being Gemini and CoPilot being ChatGPT etc. There will only be more consolidation as time goes on and the weaker companies fail and get bought up

>>108913102datacenters have uses beyond the current trend. gai could go away tomorrow and they would still be useful for networking or cloud computing.
>>108915410>We can't fucking power this. We just don't have the grid.Absolutely they can, you will be priced out, out of electricity.
america has spent the past 3-5 decades sending all our jobs overseas, its refreshing to see things getting built domestically. i dont know why all the normalniggers are praying for the downfall of this.
>>108915872>the rich extracted all our wealth and shipped all the jobs overseas>but that's ok>because they will now steal all our land and turn it into money making data centers for themselves and tax us for it, many of them being used to make you unemployedlol

>>108916119>not a single person is unemployed because of ai. not really true, but it's also not as pervasive as execukikes want you to think. as an example, my employer laid off a bunch of call center workers and replaced them with AI chat bots. another example is my dentist now uses an AI chat bot receptionist to take messages.
>>108913071Me and my mom want to make billions selling AI training and inference capacity.
>>108916889your employer laid off a bunch of call center workers because the economy is going to shit. are you suggesting automated call systems are emergent technology?
>>108913071It's the latest tech scam. The only data centers that will be profitable will be used for government surveillance (Flock cameras networked into them to spy on you 24/7 and map all your movements).
>>108913096useful for them to know that you're a useless easily manipulatable piece of shit, probably.all they have to do is gift you a hyper realistic AI-powered sex doll of her and you'll be singing Hava Nagila everytime you're cracking her.

>>108913071because there is a war that about to start and we need datacenters for drone operations.
its the latest scam grift to steal dumb boomer investors money
Many of those datacenters already existed or were about to be decommissioned. Do a before:2020 google search for your city and see just how many you already had. Don't fall for doomerist shilling.
>everyone starts building data centers>all discussion of climate change disappears over nightHow curious.

>>108913071because IT'S A CANCER. you retards.financial sector ate the real sector, and now it's manifesting in reality. datacenters will reinforce ai and ai will make the society build more shit for it. it will keep growing like cancer. it wants to grow.

>>108919361Real interesting. Seems at best you'll get the stop oil twats wrecking an oil painting, but not one of the people sperging about the average citizen having access to personal transport has a thing to say about datacenters. I saw a shit-tarded article recently about how farming rice is "bad for the environment actually" because something something microbes make co2 and nevermind the fact plants intake co2 and exhale o2, be concerned RIGHT NOW, but not a peep about datacenters from them.At best you'll get some local rags and general news orgs talking about water being drained and temperatures skyrocketing near datacenters, but they're given no real notice or attention.>>108919380Climate discourse has existed for decades with no "hurr durr 2 week news cycle" shit going on. Stop getting your world view and news from /pol/.
>>108913071I legit don't understand what the end game here is. The logic is that training and running models is supposed to be cheaper with more options and access to processing power, and building data centers is guaranteed cheap, passive income by those who make them, but without utilities being expanded (I.E. cheaper electricity, more available water) it's just gonna be shit expensive regardless, and the price of running AI models (their biggest problem right now) is just going to stay high to the point where the whole system will implode on itself and the data centers will eventually just start to rot when nobody uses them and the price of keeping them online is sky high from utility costs.
>>108913071What did you just say about my mom?
>>108913170proof that they are pulling out of asia?the timing of all this just looks like they are going all in on extreme surveillance and police state.

The AI police state is the first time the absolute panopticon has ever been possible. They simply make a warehouse, most of the time empty, and have it "train" on human biometric data 24/7 to sell to the government for an infinite money cheat.
