>40% price premium because it's """""repairable"""" and runs linux >washed out display>worse speakers>heavier>worse build quality>literally flexes and creaks>the convertible touch pen display isn't even good, it's laggy garbage that uses microsoft surface MPP tech and not wacom AESAfter hearing the price, people will literally ask: why didn't you just buy the macbook?
>>108934865have you seen the prices for macbooks? m1 air for 400 euro what the fuck
>>108934865>>washed out display>>worse speakers>>heavier>>worse build quality>>literally flexes and creaks>just like their buyers
>>108934865Price-wise it's literally impossible to compete with a company of Apple's size, because of simple economy of scale. To not even mention the fact that they can sell some of their products at zero or negative margins in a bid to lock customers into their ecosystem, which I suspect is the case with the new air.As for the other stuff... yeah it's kinda disappointing. They probably tried to quickly capitalize on a perceived hole in the market
I am a big Framework fan, have bought two 13s. That being said the 12 and the Desktop should (and probably already did) rightfully flop.We need a 10" two in one netbook with the same build quality/specs as the 13. And we need a proper fucking keyboard with dedicated function keys and media controls.
There is no equivalent to a macbook.>soldered SSD>soldered RAM>riveted keyboardand so on and so onFramework is obviously overpriced trash but it's still better than fagbook that dies in 2-3 years. They money you spend on repairing a repairable laptop ends up being less money than buying a new fagbook every 2-3 years. The highest IQ move is to obviously buy a used thinkpad for pennies on the dollar that often just need the SSD replaced (easy) and/or battery replaced (hard).
>>108934865Whats the neo's bootloader like? Is it locked down? Any hope of asahi linux or whatever being usable on it?I think the Neo looks great, but Apples ecosystem is shit and their machines are paperweights once official support ends.
>>108935435The m1 macbooks were released 6 years ago and there are no reports of them dying.
>>108934865>Complaining like a insufferable bitch Op, you may not like the product and that's fine, however we need to encourage manufacturers to make these goods repairable. If one group shows up and wants to at least LARP as being repairable, that's a start. If you immediately show up and say you don't like this product and it's not worth it, you're discouraging anyone from making repairable products. They'll literally screencap your shitty post and claim you're the ambassador to all consumers and you're why they now only make non-repairable devices.
>>108935459https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/16t8kg9/my_m1_macbook_2020_died_for_no_reason_what_now/https://medium.com/codex/my-macbook-air-m1-is-dead-a394e3581e95https://www.justanswer.com/mac-computers/p5fr4-macbook-air-m1-chip-wont-turn-on-even-charge.htmlThe problem is while SSDs are le hecking superfast and enable a level of multi-tasking never thought possible, there's 1 ultimate downside manufacturers tend to omit: they have finite lifespans. Buying a computer that you'll use for actual legit work and not just dicking around on facebook with a soldered SSD is the most RETARDED thing you could possibly do.
>>108935289I never thought about it before but if they did a netbook I'd probably have to buy. Regardless of price since there's no real competition in that space as far as I can tell. The closest you get is probably something from GPD and they're not ideal either.
>>108934898I don't know how to tell you this but the Framework 12 without RAM, storage or any expansion cards already costs 569€
>>108934865The retarded walled-garden OS and the suffocatingly stupid ecosystem will never make fagbooks worth it.iToddlers were and will always be subhuman.
>>108934865Doesn't their desktop pc have a soldered CPU and ram? They actually make less upgradable systems than their competitors. Laughable.
>>108935517>computer that you'll use for actual legit workMy employer has always provided me a computer for work.
>>108935551>macos>walled gardenhuh?
>>108935732Apple LITERALLY spies on you 24/7, when it can't phone home, you can't run software. Windows 11 does this as well but installing Windows 10 LTSC removes this 1984 shit.https://hacktricks.wiki/en/macos-hardening/macos-security-and-privilege-escalation/macos-security-protections/macos-gatekeeper.htmlAFAIK you can't install Windows 10 LTSC on a fagbook as the base OS...
>>108935732cope
>>108934865All they have to do is make a model that will fit a T420 keyboard and most of this goes away.
>>108935787>but installing Windows 10 LTSC removes this 1984 shitcute
>>108935732walled garden because the babby can't change the icon theme
>>108935544finally a mini laptop without a huge obnoxious touchpad and wasteful padding / wrist burner
>>108934898The MacBook Neo costs $599 for the entire thing, while the cheapest Framework Laptop 12 (DIY, with Intel Core i3-1315U, without RAM, without SSD, without power adapter, without ports) costs $549
>>108934865The price is way Linus is an investor in it. This is niche product for people willing to pay any price for it even if it's worse.Framework has never once released a budget product or indeed any product that's worth it's price tag.
>>108938390Is the T420 keyboard load-bearing?
Is the FW12 cooling system as bad as the FW13? I never use my FW13 because it's complete ass. You open notepad and it sounds like a 747 taking off. I spent months using it exclusively trying to like it but I can't stand the constant high pitched fan noise.
Just buy 2 gen old thinkpads and be done with it
>>108941681>FW12 cooling systemIt has a single fan and a single heat pipe
>>108934865But the framework 12 has a backlit keyboard! HAHAHA macfags btf... oh wait, it doesn't? Hmm.
>>108934865I've never needed to repair my laptop so frequently to the extent that paying more for it mattered. In fact, computers are so durable I exclusively buy used ones
>>108941807Backlit keyboard is pretty irrelevant to anyone that can touch type. The buttons could be completely blank and it'd still be perfectly usable. It's a nice crutch for retards that can't type though, I'll give you that.
>>108934865>framework>can upgrade>macbook>hardware already obsolete
>>108934865>After hearing the price, people will literally ask: why didn't you just buy the macbook?I got a thinkpad e14 has 16gb ram 500€. Its fine gets a bit too hot for me I like the battery life on linux compared to my decade old thinkpad.
>>108935289>We need a 10" two in one netbookjust make it a normal laptopfuck tablets>>108935544aside from GPD machines there's also Chuwi "Minibook"s with less ports than fucking itoys
>>108941903You can't upgrade the CPU though, the one thing thing you'd want to actually be able to upgrade because nobody does socketable laptop CPUs anymore.Nobody gives a shit about their USB C dongles masquerading as internal ports. A clever idea but not worth the price.
>>108941922>You can't upgrade the CPU thoughat least you can replace them with a new mainboard and use old one as a desktop / sell it on ebayMacbook Neo is a fucking mobile chip. It's already weak and there's NOTHING you can do but to spend another grand or two on a new itoy>Nobody gives a shit about their USB C dongles masquerading as internal ports. A clever idea but not worth the price.Have to agree here. Hope that hypothetical 10-inch "netbook" model just drops them because of their large size
>>108941936>It's already weakfaster than the jeetwork tho
>>108942019it's literally slower in all specs also arm
>>108942052it's not
>>108942097it's not arm? When what is it, arm64?
>>108942122It's a ARMv9.2-A processor running in the AArch64 execution state, using the A64 instruction set, in little-endian mode.
>>108934865What makes MacBooks look so good? Looks so fucking nice in the picrel compared to that Framework on its left.
>>108942370>Industrial designThey may not have Sir Jony Ive anymore but they still know how to make great looking products.
>>108941874this
>>108935632I know of not a single employer that allows your own laptop/pc for company work
>>108934865Just get one of the business thinkpads. They are repairable, upgradeable, don't look like cheap toys and somehow, they are less overpriced than Framework crap.Or just get a MacBook like any person with a decent job.
>>108942431It happens but it's a red flag because it means they're trying to save money instead of providing you with the right tools.
>>108942434This, I don't understand what's the point of a modular laptop when the only thing that matters is repairability, which is quite good on ThinkPads.
