More AI. More surveilance. Less hardware, but you can rent compute from the cloud.

Performance is now a convenient subscription you can scale up and down as needed. No longer do you need to buy a $3000 PC - you can now buy a $1000 PC (a shitty terminal with 8GB of RAM) and then pay $800 / year for remote compute in some data center somewhere (no guarantees, if no compute is available, you get nothing, no refunds).
We are thrilled to present this exciting new opportunity to you and we can't wait see what you do with it (literally, we check).

NTA but:
- Shit memory model, making concurrent programming much harder, you need to insert explicit memory barriers
- Complex cache coherency
- ABI fragmentation. Multiple incompatible calling conventions and floating-point ABIs (soft-float, softfp, hardfp), causing significant compatibility headaches.
- Vendor customization. ARM licenses the instruction set, letting vendors add custom instructions and extensions. This leads to chips that behaves differently, which is a pain for OS kernels, compilers, and low-level libraries targeting ARM generically.
- big.LITTLE and successor designs complicate scheduling for operating systems. Getting the scheduler to correctly assign work to the right core type without thrashing or misplacing latency-sensitive tasks is impossible. Some redditors may close their eyes on this, but it is still an unsolved problem in practice.
- Branch predictors are shit on all non-Apple chips
- TLB/MMU performance is a bottleneck for server use
- Just as sentitive to speculative attacks as x86, and some vendors have provided less hardware mitigations against that.

Programming on ARM is much more complex, and tasks that require a high level of concurrency may actually be less efficient on ARM than x86.

>b-b-but arduino/raspberry

It's gonna be an AI generated OS like that thing Google did where they used a video model to generate frames that look like video games for users to "play" but this time it's with a whole OS. They fed thousands of hours of Windows recordings to a video model, and it generates frames that roughly resemble an operating system.
