What are the pros and cons of Samsung Phones?
>>
>>108939120
There are no pros. They are one of the worst offenders when it comes to spying on you. If you're a normal cattle NPC, however, and you don't mind both google and Samsung tracking your... Literally tracking your every move, then Samsung is for you
>>
>>108939120
>pros
-great displays
>cons
-no unlockable bootloader
-no volte with custom roms
>>

it has no pros. You are paying iPhone prices for the disprivilege of android

-not take call at flip open
-no usb-c
-never need corded earbugg
>>
>>108939120
Pro: You won't have to waste your breath telling people you are retarded

Con: You could spend your shekels on more useful goyslop
>>
>>108939120
they have even more Samsung crap on top of the Google crap, like samsung store, samsung AI, samsung camera, etc.
for what its worth the samsung raw camera app gives you a lot more control than the default one, closer to professional cameras. and I like their message app better than the google one, a shame they recently stopped developing it.

biggest issue I have is that they stopped including headphone jacks and that their file transfer speed is sorta garbage and sometimes even cuts transmission but that's apparently true for all phones and is made worse by all USB-C cables being utter fucking jokes.

Samsung Galaxy A07 is pretty nice, I don't know about other phones
>>
>>108939671
their design peaked with S8/S9
>>
>>108939683
yeah they really fell off after the S9 / S10

No headphone jack

uglier / boring design

Confusing name system (wtf is an S20?)

I was going to replace my S8 with newer Samsung but ended up going for a Pixel (also shit) and then moved to iPhone

The only phone that I've seen since that looks even remotely interesting is a Nothing phone

Pros
- good features for the price, a midrange is quite close to their flagship, just without the cherry on top
- a big ecosystem that can play with a lot of connected gadgets
- ok design, nothing too ugly like those buttfuck ugly camera islands from Oppo or Huagay
- their flavour of android is mostly decent, but you can only do so much to make an OS made by poos
- quite reliable if you treat them right
- they have an app for everything if you need one
- decent battery, among the best offerings in the android world
- decent performance too for the price
- eSIM support
- device location through their servers is actually practically useful even if that implies data-mining, you might get in a shitty situation that needs that, and you can do it with some else's phone too by giving them a ping through the servers

Cons
- a fuckton of bloat that you need to remove and disable
- bland conservative design, blandest colors, but some people might prefer that to flashy or ugly
- they're starting to remove SD card support like others
- camera is unimpressive on non-flagship models, but today most phone pics are heavily in-camera processed
- they're pushing AI into everything but you can disable most of that
- android is boring as fuck and I don't understand why Samsung doesn't pull a Huawei move, they can afford it and they could escape the pooOS limitations

You need a super expensive international model if you want it OEM unlocked
Even if you replace the ROM, it will be forever tagged as such which will block banking apps

pros: they make phone calls
the rest is terrible unintuitive design- 5 clicks to do what could be done with 2.

This is exactly what used to make them appealing in the first place. You wanted miracast? heartrate sensor? hdmi? wireless charging? microsd? pen? You had it. Is used to be the only option to have them all at once. Until they started to remove the "bloat" and now it's just a worse iPhone without the iPhone benefits.

Yet, Samsung expects you to pay up 80% up front for $20 a month thereafter.
>>
>>108939120
They entirely blocked bootloader unlocking, so I have no business with them.
Used an S8 and first oneUI releases where fucking dogshit. Me unlocking and flashing that device made it breath a new life. It went snappy as fuck and never lagged like SE or OneUI.
>>
>>108941090
The Apple ecosystem is garbage, you have to pay for every mundane function you need to add, i can just plug my phone to my PC and use it like an external drive without software required unlike the heap of garbage that is Itunes.
And samsung phone just refuse to die, i haven't changed anything including the battery on my old Galaxy M31 (6 years of service btw), meanwhile my relatives always have to change their batteries because it dies all the time, same for their shitty charging cables that break all the time (and they were forced to change the cable type recently LOL).
Oh and samsung phones exists in all the price brackets and are generally cheaper, i bought my S25+ on sales for only 749 euros (without reselling my old phone) instead of 1136 euros.
Soon apple fags will need a chip inside their head to unlock their phones lmao.

>>108941370
what functions do you need pay to add? Why are you talking about itunes? when is the last time you used an iPhone, that hasnt been necessary for years. Yea, iPhone doesnt have a general mass storage mode...but its a phone so that isnt exactly a necessary feature.

>>
>>108941377
Interesting, I didn't know they did. Unfortunate they stopped making those, though that'd be one problem solved, but I still use a headphone jack and they'd prefer me buying wireless garbage than making phones with them.
No, fuck dongles the day my poco x6 with lineageOS dies I'd have to reconsider my stance, but for now I'll enjoy my snappy OS without google aids and a headphone jack.
>>
>>108941432
>flac
you can just transcode flac to alac and play them in the stock music player. Though there is a argument to made that worrying about lossless on a mobile phone is sorta silly and a waste of effort.
>>
>>108941377
it was just the s4 gpe afaik and it stopped because updates were a mess and always came late
it'd technically be easier to do it now than ever before since a lot of android got modularized with project mainline etc. but they're trying to play it off as oneui being the "premium" os experience you'd have to pay for
>>
>>108941454
i don't do that since it destroys metadata. many of my tracks have lyrics added to them which gets removed upon conversion to other formats
>>
>>108941458
From Samsung it was just the GS4, but there were others that did it too. It would be fucking awesome if they manufacturers still did stock android versions.

Cons:

>Relatively weak cameras with shitty processing
>Relatively small batteries

Had an S23U as my first Smasnug phone and this was pretty much how it was. My biggest issue with it was the software. Every year people claim OneUI gets "smoother" but I never experienced this. I ended up switching to a OnePlus 13 and, while the software is a blatant iOS ripoff and lacks the amount of features OneUI has, shit absolutely flies no matter what I do and I don't really notice the lack of features. OneUI is feature packed almost to a fault.

Pros:
>Easy to load apps I develop onto the phone for testing
>No battery warning popup that I have to close (notification instead)
>Bright flashlight

Cons:
>Default apps are terrible (samsung internet, messages, phone app). Replacements like google messages are also terrible
>Holding to copy images is nonexistent as a feature in most apps. Have to take a screenshot instead
>Doesn't play audio if set to less than 6% audio, and 6% is too loud
>Can't configure the screen blank to kick in later than after 10 minutes
>Forced updates
>UI constantly changing from unwanted forced updates
>Holding my finger in the wrong spot on the lock screen while trying to use my fingerprint brings up the homescreen configuration menu, which takes 10-15 seconds to close
>Worse privacy
>Settings UI is extremely frustrating and unintuitive
>No calculator button for easy access when you pull downwards from the top corner of the screen
>Somehow the worst configuration option is chosen by default for what feels like everything in settings. Need to spend hours configuring options and looking up how to configure certain things because the settings app sucks
>SO MANY NOTIFICATIONS
>Annoying popup about adaptive brightness every time I drag brightness to 100%
>Gallery app shows most recent photos on the top left. We read left to right and top to bottom, the most recent should be in the bottom right. No configuration option to change this
I could keep going, but this is getting long. This is the worst phone I've ever had. Migrating to grapheneOS

Because there's only enough oxygen for two phone ecosystems worldwide. It's not the first-party apps that the problem is in, it's the third-party ones where there's just no point; those devs don't want to support your shitty alternate marketplace that doesn't pull in enough revenue, and network effects keep it that way.
Huawei just about gets away with it in China due to the relatively closed online culture, but that stuff has no traction elsewhere.

My Galaxy S3 comes with Samsung appstore that uses korean moonrune. It's definitely not due to lack of attempt.

I love the stylus.
In particular that it acts like a mouse cursor so you can see tooltips by hovering over a button and easily select/copy/paste text by pressing.

Really wished other brands copied it.
I cannot copy-paste text with my big manly manfingers.

That would be annoying but clearly falls under warranty.

I have an S10 that has lineageos on it, so completely foss, changed battery so that its brand new, top display and build quality, plus smartphone jack!

Besides factoring the battery replacements cost in, there are no cons, except some stuff not working without google play services, which you can install if you want to get everything working, but i prefer to stay 100% foss. there is microg you can use for basic functionality and a foss implementation, thats what i chose

And the concept of a phone is just a clusterfuck of cons.

Pro: You can play angry birds with snowden confirmed NSA backdoors while you poo.

I'm considering getting a samsung Awhatever with plenty of storage for my mom so she can keep hoarding photos
Meanwhile I'm considering if I should upgrade my s23 ultra to s26, I'm not sure how much of a downgrade that will be
