Strange. Colleagues with similar complexion usually love AI.
>>108939285
The funny part is that its clear now - AI will not turn a profit. Yet the desperate C-suits are already locked in this path, because they have no other ideas.

Is it possible to have a career as a SWE if I don't want to use AI? I use it as a search engine and for quick boilerplate obviously but I'm uncomfortable with handing off my program to a non deterministic agent and then passing the work off as my own. I just graduated, should I go into tech or just jump ship now?

Claude doesn't "know" anything. It just summarizes everything on the internet. I talk to these things and they're terrible teachers. My fundamentals are so much more solid than most of my peers who vibe coded their way through school.
>>
This general is boring. Don't you guys ever think about anything besides indians and AI?
>>
>>108939716
I've been applying for jobs and multiple asked me how I used AI so no not really
>>
>>108939716
Some of us do, but it is not relevant to a general with this title. The bad thing is that most other boards get almost no discussion. At least I am replying to you.
>>108939731
Jesus...
Even the people pushing AI do not have a clear idea how it's supposed to be valuable, yet they keep pushing.
Or if they have suggestions, you can quickly find that it's exaggerated marketing by the AI sellers, which is not worth the price.
Psychosis.
>>
>>108939782
I started college in 2022, right when AI started, and didn't feel behind at all. I used 0 AI and got better grades on my projects than my peers, a lot of whom used AI. I just don't see the use case outside of boilerplate. And that's maybe a 10% boost in productivity if that.

Anyone have their CCNA?

Working nights at a MSP for 6 months now with my A+, Net+, and an associates degree. Pays absolute shit $20/hr but glad I have a little free time to study. Figure I would get my CCNA while I'm here in the hopes of combining that with my "experience" to get the same job with a pay bump and then work from there.

Took it last month after studying since February, I failed with like 68%. I have a retake and a good deal of cash saved if I need to take it a 3rd time but it has been slow studying, I feel genuinely retarded.
>>
>>108939472
Jump ship to where?
>>
>>108939805
Do you code a lot before college? What's your daily routine like during college? How do you manage between studying multiple classes and context switch between bazillion assignments? Do you make time for hobbies too? What about physical exercise?
>>
>>108940142
No clue, but if my job is just going to be prompting Claude instead of actually programming I'd rather simply not.
>>
>>108940148
Nah, I did a tiny bit of JavaScript and Python as a child (like miniscule) but I just chose CS because I had fun switching to Linux in high school.
>Daily routine
Changed all the time
>how do you context switch
Just happens naturally. Mostly I'd work on one class a day though desu.
>hobbies
Music, but it was tough because I commuted and didn't have much time at home as a result.
>exercise
On and off. Gym early in college, more cardio later
>>
>>108940151

It's being adopted everywhere. Imagine being the guy who sticks to writing Assembly on a text editor when everyone else had already switched over to writing C on an IDE. Switch careers.

So if AI knowledge is so in demand and you gotta adapt using it all the time why cant i get a job for more than a year now if all my personal projects in my resume is written by AI, my cv is written by AI, i did all my take home tests with my AI, and practicing my interviews with AI

I graduated this month in Computer Science. Nothing special, I came from a southern state school with a 3.1 GPA, one relevant internship from a pretty unknown company, and a job on campus working for a professor.

I applied to jobs but I felt pretty hopeless after hearing about how bad the market was from people on this general. I didn’t apply to any jobs that weren’t entry level and any that had a lot of applications.

I finally got an offer from a company I honestly didn’t want to work for. It was consulting (I wanted to do data analytics), were pretty small, and had a bunch of Glassdoor reviews saying they fired people constantly and made people work a ton of overtime. However I accepted the offer since I had heard here that you basically have to accept any offer you get or risk being unemployed after graduation (luckily the offer was at will employment).

Then one day while thinking about having to work for that company I randomly applied to like 10 jobs on handshake. I thought it was stupid to do so since everyone on here basically says getting an offer is almost impossible. One of those ten applications led to me getting a job as a data analyst for an awesome company working remote.
>>

>Yes, a stable prescription is one of the most critical requirements for LASIK. Surgeons generally define "stable" as no change greater than \(\pm 0.50\) diopters in your glasses or contact lens prescription for at least 12 to 24 consecutive months.

Well fuck me. My eyesight gets worse every month and get new stronger glasses every 1 - 2 years.

I fucking love Cursor. Got it for free last year with the student plan (right before graduating from my Masters) and it's about to run out.
Should I buy the $200/month plan? I like it so much more than my company's Claude Code
>>
i don't use ai and i got a decent swe job it's all relative
>>
>>108941852
The sensible view is that you should use AI some. It's not half as awesome as it is hyped up to be but it's useful for a [moderate] productivity boost.
SWEs are ~25% faster with AI in 2026
>>
>>108941796
claude code is betterer thoughverbait
>>
>>108941852
My company just fired a dev because he was lying about using AI and just burning the tokens with loops to fool the system.
>>
>>108941949
I'm sure they're comparable but I am so much more comfortable with using Cursor (I started using Cursor in 2024 at my old job) and the TUI for Claude Code feels uncomfy

>>108941955
Goodhart's Law. I bet that it's a big part of why companies like Uber are having negative ROI on token spending. Employees are incentivized to use as many tokens as possible => they figure out ways to game the system and waste tokens as much as possible

The only thing that can possibly bail us out of this mess is if token costs pump to the stratosphere genuinely
There have been encouraging developments on that front but it's not enough. Maybe if Taiwan falls and we have to reshore the entire supply chain for GPUs to the western world that'll both surge token costs and give me enough time to pay off my house and settle in for the long sleep
