>need new tv
>only care about video casting from pc
>ask goyPT for recs since I don't know much about tvs
>apparently have to pick from goytv1, goytv2 and goytv3
>there are not options without ads
last time I bought a tv was when 720p was the latest tech. what the fuck happened to this industry and why are people accepting adware in their homes?

what does the slopbot say? can you get it to answer truthfully?

>why are people accepting adware in their homes
Really cheap TVs. They're also used to ads because they do everything through smart phone apps and their streaming subscription is most likely not the most expensive tier.
>>
Apple TV has no ads
>>
>>108947568
can I stream from my phone or laptop? either smb or upnp
>>
tv's are pretty much aarch64 computers with some android based operating system. shouldn't it be possible to install *elec or other (media) os to them?

>in mainstream consumer products
You need to buy a non-consumer "commercial display"/"hospitality television"/"commercial screen" in order to have no built-in advertisements. It will be a bit more expensive, since it isn't ad-subsidized.
>>
>>108947856
It's easy to disable the wifi module in TVs, and even easier to connect a PC.
>>
>>108947856
cant find anything with commercial keyword on amazon. I will go by tv model
>>
>>108947873
The screenshot is from B&H Photo and Video.

I think I've also seen them on Best Buy's website.
>>
>>108947792
Sure, it's possible. Is anyone going to port it to these devices? Lol. Lmao, even.

>>108947856
This. My monitor is "commercial signage", because monitor companies only make tiny garbage for ants, and TV companies will only sell you a panel if they can ad subsidize it.
>>
>>108947472
>buy TV
>connect amazon firestick/ONN streaming box/PC or whatever you want
>it is now ad free
Its that easy, just get its mac address in the settings and prevent it from even being allowed to feasibly connect to the internet through your router and you're good to go

i got pic from claude, you can use most models without botnet. connect it to your own raspberry/minipc/old laptop/whatever and use that as a media pc

When was that? My 2009 1080p Panasonic still work great
>>
>>108948423
>>connect amazon firestick/ONN streaming box
these are all adtech/spyware as well. the gold standard is to install libreelec and deal with kodi's crappy implementations of the various streaming services

>no HDMI without wifi
we are living in hell
>>
>>108947472
Just look for a used TV or something. I did download a firmware update for some bug fixing for my 2019 Samsung TV but never accepted the TOS and haven't used it since I've bought it for anything over than a display for my PS4 and PC over HDMI.

>We will only allow you to use the OTA tuner if you agree to let us spy on you.
Agree and disable the wifi. Find the module with the antenna and disconnect its power, or wrap it in Kapton tape, then copper foil with a ground wire, and more Kapton tape.
>>
>>108948653
>OTA tuner
I don't watch TV, the only thing I need are the HDMI ports.
>>
>>108948687
Then you're unaffected. You should kill the wifi and bt anyway, if it's enabled. The remote has a MEMS mic too.
>>
>>108948732
I've downloaded the firmware update through a LAN connection and don't use the shitty remote that came with it. Might still be a privacy issue but everyone who owning a shitphone is the worst offender in that regard anyway so I'm not extremely thorough in regards to that stuff.
>>
>>108948602
it literally says there's ones that work without wifi, its far from 'hell' and prices are insanely cheap for what you're getting compared to 10-15 years ago and researching with LLMs is x10 times easier. just check whatever model you wanna buy and use LLMs to quickly search if they can be run as just a tv or mandatory-botnet
>>
>>108948739
they aren't cheap when you value your privacy and personal identity. it's incredibly dystopian that it's not a given when you buy a product with a port that you might not be allowed to plug things into it
>>
>>108947472
>>need new tv
use case?
I threw my TV out 23 years ago and never missed it (wasn't used much anymore anyhow and after moving I just left it).

Some TVs even store ads to show them if you're online, and some brands don't even work ofline at all after a while they stop working and ask you to connect to wifi.
The most lenient ones constantly nag you to connect to wifi with giant banned in the middle of the screen
Buying a dumb TV is impossible they're aimed at the corpo market and insanely expensive
>>
>>108948765
wanting to watch things on a bigger screen while on a couch
>>
>>108948757
the botnet subsidizes the price and you're allowed to just avoid the botnet = best of both worlds you get a cheap tv and not ads/spying.

yea its not ideal but calling it dystopian when you can just not use it and be better off is kinda hyperbolic
>>
>>108947622
yes. it can connect to remote servers even stuff like plex jelly fin
>>
>>108947472
So I was wondering, where the fuck is the European Union? Like they touched all kinds of fields and regulated all kinds of things for the sake of consumer rights and data protection and yet this huge oligopoly has been left in the hands of corpos and nobody ever questions it. They forced browser to let users choose what default search engine to use tho. Thanks I guess?
>>
>>108948788
Get a display instead of a TV?
>>
>>108948821
a 50, 55 or 60 inches display?
>>
>>108948825
They are called Large Format Display (LFD).
Did you ever used a search engine in your life?
>>
We need some custom/aftermarket mainboard replacements for various panels that only enable basic display functionality and omit everything else.
>>
>>108948844
Why?
>>
>>108948848
So you can buy a cheap TV and replace the mainboard with something that won't spy on you. Why not?

I am not paying 1k for a fucking monitor anon. Even a commercial 43 inches tv costs just 300
>>
>>108948855
Just buy a big display duh

what tech? the lack of ads is a tech? just admit your suggestion was horse shit and move on mate
>>
Buy a business tv like the Samsung ones
>>
>>108948893
You either pay with your money or you pay with your data and getting ads.
Pick one.
>>
>>108948910
Is there a database of commercial panel models that are cross-compatible with "business TV" mainboards?
>>
>>108948892
(You)
>>
>>108948923
Why don't you just research specific brands (or better yet, a TV model you're interest in) and how to circumvent ads? I'm not going to research that for you and spoonfeed you the perfect TV that costs $100, has not ads and the best picture quality available.
>>
>>108949012
I asked in case you or anyone else itt knew of a database where I could research. lmao
>>
>buy new Samsung OLED
>don't connect it to internet
>only ever use ONN box to control it
yeah the ONN has some ads, but it's far less intrusive than my Firestick was. I'll probably buy an Apple TV when the new one is released, hopefully soon
>>
>>108947472
Wtf? I've never ever seen a TV that has ads without it coming from cable TV or an app
>>
Samsung (Tizen OS) and LG (webOS) are bad but slightly less horrible than Android slop TVs
