Why does he want me to rewrite my Data on my HDD's every 3 years? I thought data on HDD lasted forever?
>>
He looks like he's still living in the 90's so he probably knows what he's talking about.

Irrelevant source.
Unsubscribe, downvotes, repent.

nobody claimed that it lasts forever
on m-disks it should last centuries

good luck collecting on that warranty

It's already hard to buy Blu-ray drives in 2K26, imagine trying to do that in 2126 to read your data
>>
>>108951427
in 2126 you just print an mdisk reader
probably you wont even need that you can read it by moving your finger across the disk your skin nanobots would have a laser module for this
>>
>>108948975
I mean, if you're a complete idiot and your backups have no checksums or other integrity tracking, that's probably not horrible advice. You should periodically validate your backups, and if you don't have anything to validate them with, the next best thing is just ask the disk to read it back and see if it starts throwing errors.

Their equivalent of Arduino/RaspberryPi will fill that role.
