Or in the worst cases people who treated it as a matter of integrity over the course of their entire careers found themselves in a rough spot, like the example Bill Hicks cited of Willie Nelson shilling Taco Bell after getting bent over and assraped by the IRS.In the case of PewDiePie I think taking the NordVPN money is pragmatic given his current career pivot. He should be paid for his work even if he is already rich. If you work you should be able to extract value from it, simple as that. But the kind of audience this genre of videos will attract all have uBlock Origin installed. He might as well get paid how he can.

>>108949363So how does this work locally? Does it have a local model that does not need to call outside anywhere? Can I somehow have Claude performance for free on my own box? I don't understand this shit.
>>108962739Neither did I, be prepared to be yelled at by some douchebag. As far as the other anon explained it to me it's something known as a harness which is just like a skin or UI so as far as I can tell it's fucking useless.
>>108949363No he didn't you fucking retard. He made an LLM wrapper. This does nothing without the actual model.

>>108962754Thanks for replying anon, that's what it sounded like to me, just a web UI ran on localhost, that otherwise just calls to all respective servers. But this sounded to dumb to be true so I assumed I was being retarded. But if it is, then what's the fucking point? What difference does it make to privacy and everything, if you're sending your data to anthropic, google or whoever anyway.

This is pointless vibecode slop.

>>108963332I do in fact not have a modern graphics card because I'm not a child who wants the latest and greatest 3D graphics anymore. Having a graphics card is more hassle than what it's worth, it's not a cost thing. I literally don't need one for anything I want to do on my computer. But what does that have to do with anything? You could get a $10k top end AI card and it would still not make any difference. Big tech has billions and trillions to invest in training and running models, no single person stands a chance. When the current best LLMs are still so shit, running a local one is pointless.Only low IQ people and nocoders are easily impressed by what current SOTA LLMs can do. It's like they can't understand the outputs so they praise the AI for producing a massively bloated 5M LoC unmaintainable piece of garbage full of bugs.Currently the only valid usecases for AI are porn and entertainment but you're a loser if you use AI for that desu.

>>108963330What are you trying to use them for? I'm not saying there's a gap between local and "SOTA" but hearing this shit every time local is mentioned starts to make me think @Sama's employees are stalking these threads.
>>108949950See Pic rel and >>108964255
>>108964255I don't know who sama is but I don't use them because I already know they are weaker than what I do use which is gemini so whats the point?
>>108964282I create or modify existing software so my needs are probably a lot different and a lot more demanding than yours. I routinely use the Gemini app for general purpose questions but when I actually need shit done I either use a local model on my MacBook or a cloud API depending on how quickly I want the thing to be accomplished (though I'm learning that quicker doesn't necessarily mean better). My next personal project of mine is to see if I can unfuck existing hardware and software silicon valley makes because they are sheltered and lazy when it comes to making sure their shit works.
>>108964292How is your local model anywhere near better than gemini for when you actually need shit done?
>>108964308Gemini is decent for general purpose things but noticeably inferior with coding tasks (both their local models and API models). Not completely useless but not worth using over other things I use The recent model's API pricing is also way too fucking expensive compared to even other sota options so what happened even looked its direction yet. The local model do what I need them to do so I don't really care about anything Gemini has to offer. I'm not going to tie myself to one service or one architecture or one family. Doing that is part of the reason why corporations are currently being price raped by recent moves to token based billing.
>>108964340I use gemini for coding in gdscript and it's fantastic. How is a local model strong enough to outcode any of the mainstream large models? Like, the size difference is huge.
>>108964356I'm not necessarily saying it can or it can't. I'm just telling you what *I* use and my use cases as well as the hardware I have at my disposal. If you take benchmark scores as the gospel then yeah "SOTA" models outperform most open weight models. That doesn't mean the open weight ones are completely useless or aren't worth using, especially if you're like me and actually have hard-workable of using it. >Like, the size difference is huge. That's a bit debatable because these Labs have been known to "benchmaxx" models since the correct choices or the questions are public knowledge so they can just incorporate that into the training runs (literally all of them do this and it's well documented, it's not just the SOTA labs)
>>108964376I don't know what sota is. So you just use it because you want to use it? That's what I figured would be happening. I have an older ddr4 system with 128gbs of ram and a 3950x so I was thinking of having an LLM but I just didn't see the point of it compared to just opening up gemini.
>>108964388>sotaYep I can tell......>So you just use it because you want to use it? Pretty much. I used whatever works and whatever's reasonable for my wants and needs. >so I was thinking of having an LLM but I just didn't see the point of it compared to just opening up gemini.Or are you using the regular web-facing/mobile app Gemini or the API version? Those are very different things in terms of what you can do with them.
>>108964410Whats the difference? I just go to the web app and prompt whatever thing I'm trying to do in godot.
>>108964388>I don't know what sota isyou don't want to know.
>>108950205Yes, he won while Elon, in spite of being the world's richest man on paper, continues to lose.
>>108964417Automating tasks a lot easier and potentially much faster depending on what your workflow is. Especially if you're using a harness.
>>108964573What makes it easier and faster though? Gemini is always instant for me, I've seen people having them think but doesn't that just mean they're asking overly complex tasks? Also i thought a harness was just like a UI?
>>108962032>So basically it's just like a new UI? What's even the point of that?Yup. He literally advertises it as a chat interface. And also true that you can't run any good AI models locally on consumer GPUs. There is even a sneaky line there because he doesn't like to outright admit he loves AI -- that people can plug powerful LLMs like Claude or Gemini to it via API keys.
>>108949677We already have its called "markov"
>>108962032Can't use APIs either, every day they become even more locked down. The Claude leak proved that with how many guard rails it has and that's far less goy-filtered than the AIs from OpenAI and Jewgle.
>>108964624>What makes it easier and faster though? The model uses the harness to read and edit files based on your instructions and requirements, along with whatever default and/or additional system prompt(s) and "skills" you add. Your workflow is >Have an issue>Describe it to Gemini (probably a stack Trace or 2 here and there>Gemini shits out a script or code block for you>You pasted it in and make edits where needed (or just ask Gemini to do that too)With a harness It does be exact same shit but all you do is just talk to it. It edits the scrior or code base by itself, reads the code by itself, can't even account for edge cases or bugs you didn't think of depending on "smart" the model is, initiate git tracking to keep track of its own changes in cube documentation (this is very good if you're trying to steer it from fucking up things it shouldn't be fucking with because now it has a history of all the edits), and "Agents.md file along with other documentation can also guide the model into knowing the project's " tech stack" Which means you won't have to handhold it nearly as much as you would on the default web app front end. If you know what you're doing, but using a harness is a lot more efficient than just copy pasting code to and from the web app. You CAN do it web app only It makes a lot less efficient imo. >Also i thought a harness was just like a UI?Think of the model as genius hellen keller. I'm very intelligently, intelligently and capable but can do fuck all by itself. Harness you can think of as a that system Stephen Hawking was plugged into. The model cannot do anything by itself, but the harness gives it be the ability to actually take action and do things. The web app versions Gemini, chatGPT, Claude, All use this and it's usually referred to as "tool calling". That's what allows them to search the web, edit files you upload, create files that you can download, etc.
