who actually uses these buttons as back/forward page in the browser? it's been the default configuration for decades at this point but that shit never felt right to me
the millisecond you might save by just not clicking on the browser button is not worth the annoyance of accidently pressing one of these buttons and these are not time sensitive actions anyway
thank you for reading this very important rant, had to finally get it off my chest

I do, or I did before my logishit mouse disintegrated. In Firefox if text is highlighted the right click menu doesn't by default show a "back" button so I got used to using the dedicated mouse button. I used to use the right click menu because it's easier than moving to the back button in the menu bar. Also I think the mouse back button works on hover without changing the active window, like scroll does, but my logishit mouse has been disintegrated for so long I can't be sure I remember correctly. Hope your chest feels better.
>>
>>108950145
I do use them as back/forward in browsers. There's no forward button in browsers anymore, so that's the only way to do that quickly.
>>
>>108950145
me.
>>108950184
yes there is dude and everywhere except Edge it's turned on by default, even on Edge, it's trivial to turn on.
>>
>>108950145
I use them as middle click (comfier than pressing down the wheel) and Ctrl. Makes most productivity apps far easier to use.
>>
>>108950145
i use them and miss them when they aren't there. now all we need is another set that scrolls through tabs the same way.
>>
Mouse5 is TeamSpeak PTT
Mouse4 is bound to melee
>>
>>108950145
Me, on my mouse they're heavy enough it's impossible to press by accident, they also work on Dolphin which is great when sorting files
>>
You sound extremely obese and/or deformed if you accidentally press those buttons
>>
>>108950145
mouse4 and mouse5 serve only to switch weapons in tf2
>>
>>108950145
I used to when they were a new, cool thing.
>>
>>108950415
Or maybe I just want the freedom to pick up my mouse however I want.

I only use these for "use" key in games (IMO better than E) and Push-To-Talk

I do, and in cs2 they are aimbot/triggerbot buttons.
>>
>>108950145
I use them too. By accident, and then I curse like crazy, because it only happens once a year or so and catches me by surprise each time.
>>
>>108950145
I do.

Me
I also use horizontal scroll a lot
They're the only extra buttons on my mouse and keyboard I haven't rebound to function keys
>>
>>108950145
I have the side buttons set to Home/End because I use those constantly, and my wheel is already set to scroll a page up/down per tick. But when I got a tilt wheel, I set the tilt to Back/Forward, and now I'm addicted to that too.

I do constantly, only I also have 2 buttons on the pinky side so it's actually the front buttons are back/forward so it feels more logical (and then the other buttons are left/right arrow).
>>
Side buttons: copy/paste
Wheel tilt: back/forward in browsers, or undo/redo in editors
>>
>>108950145
I never "upgraded" past a 3-button mouse because it is bloat.

I use mine as volume buttons. But I also have another pair of side buttons which I use as alt and ctrl to quickly download/open shit in new tab.
>>
>>108950145
i only use them when i accidentally click back and then have to click forward, or in vidya gaymes, accidentally throw a grenade, then have to quickload
>>
>>108950145
i use backspace to go back
>>
>>108950145
I use Backspace and Enter.
Enter can be used to confirm all kinds of dialogues, or to send messages, it's actually super convenient to have on the mouse.
Backspace makes the browser go to the previous page (if not, there's https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/go-back-with-backspace/eekailopagacbcdloonjhbiecobagjci?hl=en&pli=1 ), and it's also more convenient than you'd expect once you get used to it.
>>
>>108950145
All the time, use them in IDE also (go back to previous file) and in the file explorer.

I use every single one of my G502 buttons in 2 layers with G-Shift, shit's comfy.
>the millisecond you might save by just not clicking on the browser button

Are you superhuman or subhuman, pick one already.
Anyway, nobody wants to point and click for something they do regularly if they can help it, and I do have plenty of use for them even outside of vidya, but especially in vidya.

You've reminded me I should probably drop G-Shift and just set up AHK for the same functionality without a dead button that serves only as a switch.
>>
>>108950145
What else would you use it for OP?
>>
>>108950168
Oh wow. Does his chest have nipples on it? Oh wow.
>>
>>108950641
Not using num keys so you can just go to the weapon you want directly is crazy.
>>
>>108950145
I use them literally all the time to go back/forward in the browser, in windows explorer, and I usually map the back button to a dodge action in games (which was something I started doing since I played nier automata since there was no convenient keyboard key for that, and dodging is essential to play the game properly)
>>
>>108950145

I do, and not only in the browser
>>
>>108955692

>>
>>108955692
I change them to Ctrl + and Ctrl - there's always some dogshit website that needs rescaling. Volume up and down would be pretty handy too.
>>
>>108950145
>who actually uses these buttons as back/forward page in the browser?

I've mapped them as such and I absolutely hate it. I have NEVER pressed them on purpose but constantly press them by accident.
>>
>>108950145
I've always used it as back/forward since I got a mouse like that, but I switch places so back is the top button and forward is the bottom button, since I use back more and that button is where my thumb rests
>>
>>108950145
I use them for voice chat in hell divers 2.
Cant say ive used them for anything other than auxilliary mappings for games.

I use them as melee/grenade in FPS games.
I claw grip my mouse and it has a little thumb lip at the bottom for me to rest on so I never accidentally hit these buttons.
I just ignore them unless I'm gaming.

It's less reliable and flexible than a new tab.
