this shit is worse than windows for pestering you with updates and then the updates breaking stuff

This piece of shit will install Firefox from a snap if you try installing it from apt
>>
nah, for me it's major upgrades for Debian something ALWAYS breaks

What broke? Please be specific.

snap refresh --hold

Maybe stick to Winshit if this is too complicated for you
>>
Ubuntu is the Windows of Linux
Being able to hold snaps at all is a fairly recent thing, before it would have a time limit which is literally what Windows does

They make no distinction between major security vulnerabilities with active exploits and minor hypothetical ones. There are security updates every single day.

Nothing gets installed without my explicit knowledge.

It’s like you don’t want a working computer. I had ONE issue over the years and Timeshift saved my ass.

ubuntu sucks but its nowhere near as bad as winblows

There is no firefox deb package that you can install with apt. The deb package is just a transitional package that installs the snap version because there is no other option. Ubuntu was nice enough to make the transition easier and not break "sudo apt install firefox" but of course Linux schizos saw some kind of weirdo conspiracy in that.

And Mozilla wanted it to be packaged as a snap because they preferred it so send your complains to them.

Then turn off automatic updates if you don't like it.

>and then the updates breaking stuff
If you want a system that doesn't break after every little update then you should stick with Windows because Ubuntu is the best it will get.

>>108955278
Every Firefox update via snap breaks the context menu. I know it got updated when I try to use right mouse button and it does nothing.

Windows has never had ads in the terminal MOTD, Ubuntu has a double-digit number of times.

Use a real Linux distro. Ubuntu is not Linux.
>>
>>108958444
Happened to my best friend too. Wanted to switch to linux, decided on udnindu despite my advice. Now he feels stuck because he has a frankensteined monster he likes. To be fair I also have one ~10 year old debian VM that has been updated through the years and is similarly cursed and stitched together.
My usual MO is clean wipe every two major versions just to make sure everything is setup correctly with no fucked up legacy flags or settings but that one VM is too vital to even think about touching and at the same time may God help me should that thing ever fail.

Overstatement of the year.

I like fedora because it breaks every 2 years so it forces me to reinstall from the ground up, which is good practice

Niggerbuntu is what you get when you’re a poor company but still need tech support
It makes no sense to pick it as a random dude who just wants a distro for his dolphin porn stash at home

>turn off updates (can't select None, have to get security updates still)
>new security vulnerability found in application
>feeding it a 5TB zip bomb on a system with less than 1GB RAM crashes the application
>therefore this is clearly a potential denial of service vulnerability, making it an XK-Class "end of the world as we know it" vulnerability
>snapd helpfully averts disaster by updating your software (the updated software now requires an account and has ads)

You never had that freedom.
