I remember when I first started with Arch, the ISO was only 600MB or even less back then, now it's 1.5GB

These requirements are based on you having a smooth experience. You can absolutely run ubuntu on lower specs, but you're not guaranteed to have the level of experience that Conanical wants to deliver
>>
>>108960008
So it would be a shitty pointless experience?

what dogshit poor country do you like in that a ~10gb install is a problem? if you're on anything smaller than a 256gb ssd you're fucked for doing anything practical anyway. there's minimal distros for servers and i'm quite happy that everything works fine on desktop.

the only good thing about ubuntu is the fact they have "minimal installs".

my server's boot partition will eventually not be big enough to hold the linux kernel and i'll eventually have to redo everything again by hand
moral of the story: make your boot partition future and make it like 10 gigs
>>
>>108957845
Windows and macos are at 11+ GB of pure fucking adware slop and at least 30% of resource consumption on a fresh machine. Somehow, no matter the hardware specs they always use at least 30 fucking percent of resources, almost like its a software feature to allocate that much resources to send all input directly to the nsa

how will people install linux if the iso goes beyond the capacity of a dvd disk?

I'll never forgive (((red hat))) for this
>>
>>108962035
you can just "burn" the iso to a flash drive or sd card with dd
don't use ventoy, it's both buggy and contains spyware

i'm pretty sure it was less than 300MB back in 2009-ish (or just over 300MB can't remeber)

had to dd an iso like a fucking barbarian all because of a e-waste laptop and its bullshit soldered memory

Yes and I was mocking Ubuntu indirectly, not that I care if it's 50MB or 30GB. The extra 3.5GB is just pre installed software. In Arch or NixOS you might install that software anyway.
