almost exclusively use it to read fuckhuge dnd sourcebook scans (for settings i will never actually play a game in) and it's just so quick to load even massive pdfs

This. If all one needs is to read PDFs, Sumatra is far and away the best choice on Winshit. MuPDF and PDF Gear get honorable mentions, but I've installed Sumatra on so many employee workstations over the past 20 years that I've completely lost count.

In my old lab there was a shared PC with Adobe PDF viewer. It was such dogshit I could not stand it so I installed sumatra.
