Why use linux when IoT LTSC exists?
>>
>>108962029
Because you hate yourself and want the worse user experience possible.
>>
>>108962029
win10 iot ltsc is the epitome of kicking the can down the road
what are you going to do in 2032 or whenever when it stops being supported?
>>
>>108962029
It's really retarded and I say that as someone who used to use it long ago. You're using a gutted semi broken version of windows that's inherently illegal for (You) to use in the first place and comes with numerous limitations and road blocks for doing anything other than web browsing. It's dumb, just use macOS or Linux if you hate windows

Windows LTSC is okay but things break down when you need to get more technical. For one, LTSC is so cut down it doesn't even have stuff like WinGet and I remember I had to fuck around with powershell to get it back, as a whole the terminal experience in Windows is TERRIBLY frustrating.

If all you do is gaming and launching apps by all means use Windows LTSC

Because all versions of Windows past 8.1 are pure, unmitigated garbage. GNU/Linux and Mac OS X are the only truly viable choices at the moment, though desktop BSD variants like Ghost, along with Haiku and ReactOS, are also orders of magnitude more usable than Win10+.

>>108962215
No it's true, just uncommon. Rise of the tomb raider used to crash on ltsc versions like 1607 and 1809 for example when it can't find certain dlls it needs, and I don't mean msvc related ones. Maybe this is less of a problem on newer ltsc builds.
>>

what would fedora iot have over fedora workstation on regular PCs?
>>
>>108962079
This. In terms of operating systems Windows depreciates in quality over time while Linux/BSD can only get better. Staying on 10 LTSC while seeing the shitshow of 11 is like seeing your future. I want to be excited about new features and updates not dread the darker days to come.

the windows desktop experience is worse, you are just retarded. linux works perfectly, everything loads faster and feels more responsive and I can seamlessly update whenever I feel like it and when I do it updates all my software instantly. it also does more with less so my pc doesn't have to work as hard he gets to relax

also resolution scaling with 4k monitors does not work properly on windows, some software will be visibly blurry unlike kde which has perfect fractional scaling. there are windows users looking at blurry windows thinking that's a good desktop experience its insane
>>

Oh no! The horror!

after using windows for over 20 years and finally switching to linux, I regretted not switching earlier. I could have built an even better environment for myself by now. but it is only going to improve. whatever you do on windows is a sinking ship, however slowly.
>>
>>108962079
>what are you going to do in 2032
linux desktop will be usable by then
>>
>>108962554
to me, windows 7 was already a huge disappointment compared to XP, but I put up with it. however, once microshart started forcibly "upgrading" win7 installs to 10, I said fuck this shit and went linux-only. that happened a decade ago now, and I don't miss winblows even the slightest.
>>
10 IoT LTSC already has dodgy wifi, bluetooth, fingerprint read etc driver support on many laptops. You are forced to install Windows 11 drivers and hope it will work.

I had to manually install the driver and downgrade wifi settings to wifi 5 from wifi 7 on a 2025 Lenovo L14 that EXPLICITLY SUPPORTS 10 IoT LTSC edition specifically according to it's spec sheet, because in reality the only available driver is intended for Windows 11.
>>
>>108962029
It's a cut down version of Windows, in both good and bad. You won't get any usability additions either and software that should work on Windows might not work. I have pretty bad experience of these version of Windows.
>>
>>108962079
>what are you going to do in 2032

You do realise mainy are on Windows for work purposes. Specialised software written for Windows works better and is the reason it is so dominant. Linux desktop won't become mainstream enough yet

It's OK for games but that's it.
>>
>>108962326
This is what well adjusted people do instead of bitching and moaning all day. When a problem comes your way you try to fix it which is very easy on Windows. Just remove and disable what you don't like and go on with your life. But at least all that bitching will make Windows even better in the end with the next updates so thanks for that freetards.

Running non-steam games on Linux is worse than on W10, many Steam games even still have problems and require tweaks or overlooking issues according to protondb

Nah man, Linux fucking sucks I have switched back to LTSC IOT after 1.5 months I was using it as a primary OS, the papercuts... It's just a terrible Graphical experience "But use XYZ", how many times do you want me to test everything all over again the issue is not the distro it's clearly the fact that every DE sucks. I do like the stuff you can do with it that's great for setting up like home automation but desktop... fuck that shit.

>win10 iot ltsc is the epitome of kicking the can down the road

Yeah, but the alternative sucks, Microsoft is doing the K2 thing and I will just switch to the last good LTSC so 2027, but you could make the same argument about Ubuntu LTS.

I used to like windows desktops but all of them turned to shit. Gnome 2 went first, then Unity (which I actually liked - the new release is buggy and many programs enshittified with GTK3), then XFCE 4.12 with GTK3 enshittification too. From bloated desktops I guess Pantheon was acceptable in early versions but whatever they did since 5 is not nice, the newest change with that retarded tray/windows in the dock is peak retardation. Tray is fucking tray, don't fucking bolt it into a fucking dock. It's vomit inducing design.

i'm a Linux user and have had issues with wine before. i know it's better now, but why risk dying right after beating the boss and just before you save? happened to me on a game i paid for a couple years back. it's great for development, though. still, native linux games will ultimately perform better than wine

I dual boot arch+win 10 IoT

I only care about security updates, and 2032 is far enough on the calendar that a) win 11 IoT can be usable, or b) linux will be good enough to totally replace windows.
Either way, Im staying with my current set up. Besides, Im mostly using windows for some modern gaming things that are still rough on linux. Arch is my mainOS
