Hey guys so I graduated last year in June 2025 with a CE Degree from UofT and I’ve been unemployed since. A handful of interviews I couldn’t convert. You can check my post history for more info but I’m starting to feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Everything I spend my time learning is just replaced by AI. I don’t find any value in learning anything anymore and feel like everything is over. I don’t retain any of the knowledge I garnered while grinding, the Leetcode all of it feels level zero. I tried to get my self esteem up but I still go to sleep crying every other night. I hate what I’ve done and it almost feels comical writing this because it really just feels like one big joke but it’s my reality. I thought I could pick myself up but my time has run out. I’m an international so I’m also on the clock on my PGWP. I don’t feel like talking to any of my friends because of how well all and by all I mean ALL of them have been doing career wise. I can’t fathom doing all this work for a 50k role which I might get laid off any day. I’ve been spending my days doing nothing now because it all feels pointless. I've called this happening for many months. AI usage costs are going to continue to increase because AI companies are not turning profits. If they actually raised them to profitable levels (assuming nobody left afterward which is not realistic) they'd need to charge something like 0.0025 per token. It would cost tens of thousands just to stand up a repo with some slop in it.
I can't remember whether its my company policy or a copilot policy, but we're using enterprise wide pools now too, so that each developer uses out of that entire pool. We're definitely going to have some devs/teams draining while others only trickle out of it. That'll be SUPER FUN if we use to the limit and one day everyone just can't call agents because some other fuckers drained the usage.

But I would stay in your current job and just silently quit (meaning not quitting, but doing the bare minimum not to be fired) while learning a trade.
Best case, you only needed vacations, and now you like your job again and you know a new trade.

About a month ago I made a fake account on linkedin and indeed that was identical to my existing one except female and fake address. I sent 8 zero effort job applications with identical resume and no cover letter.

I totally forgot about that until now and I logged into the account to see I had gotten 3 physical interview invites.

Meanwhile it took me like 300 applications to get my current underpaid dogshit job after 1.5 years of searching.

The problem is that she genuinely thought the guy was saying boomers worked hard. All my colleagues know vim. A couple beside me use it. Others use vscode but they still know what vim is and wish they'd know it better to use it over vscode. Are you sure they're millenials? Could be, as there were all kinds of dudebros infesting the field at the time on the promise of high pay (they thought it was a white collar job, so 90% downtime and send emails sometimes), but they usually don't gather around tech-serious orgs. It's a good way to tell if a tech org is worth joining.
